Why not draft LT and Gates on the same Fantasy Team?! (1 Viewer)

I know the general fantasy football rule is to never hamstring your team with a high risk/high reward play like that but to me it doesn't look that dangerous. SD is a good team and figure they will score AT LEAST 20-25 ppg on avg. conservatively (They averaged 26.1 ppg last year) Usually, most if not all of the those points will be involve Gates and LT. Take away the team for a minute and just look at the individual players. Hands down the best TE and arguably the best RB in the league. Phillip Rivers is having a great training camp and looked poised and sharp in his preseason game. Its only one game, but if he can hold his own or better SD is gonna be fine! Lets discuss.

There was a thread about this exact combo about three days ago.

General consensus: it's a great pair to have.

Actually I would imagine quite a few teams will do just that...grab LT in the top 3 overall and then snag Gates at the turn in early round 3 if he's there. Who ever said there's a rule against drafting a RB and TE from the same team?

LT/Gates

Priest/Gonzo

LJ/Gonzo

Terrell Davis/Shannon Sharpe

Tiki/Shockey

Only one word of warning on this idea...

My boss in our work league last year had LT and Gates, and only lost 2 games all regular season.

Then he had that one fateful game in the playoffs where LT and Gates filed to show up...

LT had 76 yards and no TD's, and Gates had 29 yards receiving.

Needless to say, his playoff dreams ended that day... :P

is your league title decided by a H2H superbowl/playoffs. The problem would be if somehow Gates/LT2 both get shut down in the playoffs, your team might not have a chance to win

Didn't we have an article, or do a study, a couple or three years ago regarding the RB/TE combo - and that it often works out that when the RB is having a good day, the pass catching TE also has a good day ("often" works out that way, not "usually" works out that way)

I may seem silly but I try to avoid matching team members like that. Be it QB/WR or WR/TE, RB/TE on the same team. My feeling is if the team as a whole is getting beat up, then that could be the day my fantasy team gets beat up in a crucial game or even worse in a playoff game. I feel if you have a pairing from the same team and the o game gets shut down by the opposing team's D, it will be a long day despite average player pts per game. It sucks to be running head to head with the top 3 or 4 fantasy teams in a league and get hit hard because of too much investment in one team's players. I like to play my FF teams like stocks and spread it around.
