Why not let (Forte) score? (1 Viewer)

I'd take that over trying to block a chip shot field goal. Maybe they could of had more than a minute, a decent run back and they're in business with a chance to tie. Why don't teams do this more?

I was thinking the same thing.

Also if GB didn't take that stupid challenge that they clearly were not going to wint hen they would have had another T/O left and would have been able to get the ball back with just under a minute. Plenty of time to try and get into FG range. Poor game management down the stretch.

better option would have been to not waste that timeout on a challenge that was obviously not going to get overturned

Totally agree.

GW FG was less than an extra point...98% he makes it....

Give Rodgers ball w/ a minute left, and you have a shot.

McCarhy was outcoached tonight. He burns a crucial timeout when the replay was clear with just a little over 2 minutes to play. He should stand up there and say it's his fault. Then not allowing Chicago to score to put the ball in Aaron Rodgers hands...absolutely one of the bonehead moves this weekend and that's why McCarthy won't be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy anytime soon.

IDIOT!!!

Yeah, in that situation, you have to let them score. Even with a semi-shanked kick, it was still probably going through. If they let Forte score in the first run, I'm pretty sure they would have still had over a minute to play with Driver/Jennings/Jones/Finley. Bad Call.

Because they could have drove down and scored, then went for two. Chicago won the game. They don't care about Forte's td.

No, dummy, CHI ran with over a minute left, if GB ole's Forte he walks in and GB gets the ball back with time to score. This thread had nothing to do with fantasy football, Copernicus.

IT MADE NO SENSE. There is no credible counter-argument. Faced with the choice of a chance to tie or forfeiting, the coaching staff elected to forfeit. That's what happened.

The waste of the timeout on a challenge that had no chance to be overturned was bad management. Once the Bears were down inside the 5, the Packers should have let them score.

Because the coaches don't care about fantasy football.
 FF has nothing to do with it
Yeah, I'm not sure that they're getting the big picture here..
I believe they tried to let them score, but Chicago didnt want to, I dont know why...but I do know that coaches do whats best for winning, and that was the best.
:hifive: No they didn't... they had two chances to let them score and stuffed them both times. Did you even watch the game?

The correct reply is because Forte would have took a knee and we would have run the ball out regardless. This is why the play happened the way it happened, its really not that hard to figure out people

Wrong again, Forte actually made some progress but was then bottled up by the GB D. One of GB's defenderrs even did a little celebration when they stuffed him the last time.

So, you interpreted them tackling the ball carrier as "trying to let them score"? Interesting analysis (?).

Forte would have walked in if they let him.

Bad coaching decision by the Packers. YOu gave your team basically no shot to win or tie.

Defense didnt open up at all. Coaches routinely make bad decisions at the end of games. This is a great example.

He sure looked like he was trying to score and gave no intention that he had any thoughts of taking a knee, particularly on the first play, he would have walked in.

Mike McCarthy after the game just went on and on about the 17 penalties and pretty much brushed over the timeout he burned and the GB media didn't hold his feet to the fire at all. Don't get me wrong, 17 penalties is a major reason why GB lost but he could have extended the game and given them a chance to win and he blew it.

Why do coaches burn penalties on challenges they have no chance at overturning? His excuse was he hoped the refs saw that he was out of bounds...HOPE?! Dude, suck it up and get ready to use those precious timeouts in the last 2 minutes. If they had another timeout at the least they could have had some time left after the FG by Chicago. McCarthy should just dress up like Herm Edwards for Halloween because he did a damn good impression tonight immitating the master of clock management.

Look at that play again and tell me how Forte would have been able to score with everyone in the middle of the pile, he was running out the clockEither way it was Check Mate for the Bears

No... Forte was fighting for the endzone and was stopped barely a yard short... he had no intentions of taking a knee

Forte was trying to score, and Green Bay was doing everything they could to stop him.

The right call was to let them score in this situation...just like brian wesbrook decided NOT score a sure TD in that game a couple years ago when he stopped on the 1 yard line, it's all about giving your team the best chance to win, especially after wasting a crucial timeout on a BS challange that should not have been made.

I'm pretty sure Forte would have scored. Maybe he was told to kneel at the 1, but he could have fallen into the endzone on that last run if they'd let him.

Just another indefensibly bad call on top of an indefensibly bad game by the Packers. That challenge was even worse, don't know if it was Mccarthy's fault or their review staff, but jesus.

You can all disagree with me but the situation was either Packers do nothing and Forte takes a knee or Forte runs in the middle with Packers trying to stop and runs the clock out. Either way the game ends the same way.

Why are you grasping at straws?

You're either a homer or ignorant or both.

Why not take a knee on third down if you're Chicago? They got lucky he didn't get in. Finley obviously would have caught a 70yard TD and the deuce for the win.

Forte wasn't expecting the Packers to lay down, he was running hard on the first handoff. If the Pack would have just stepped aside after the snap Forte wouldn't have realized anything was amiss until he was already in the end zone.Of course the outcome of the game was unlikely to change. The point of the thread is that the packers ensured it was unlikely to change, instead of giving themselves at least a Jim Carey chance.

Yes I hear you on that point, but how do you know that Forte wouldn't have figured that out and taken a knee to set up for a field goal, thats all i'm saying, you guys make it sound like a foregone conclusion that Forte was going in for the score regardless, based on a play which he saw was developing in front of him

If you're the Packers Coach and you have your head out of your ####, you tell your team to let him walk in or better yet, you pull him in to the endzone.

McCarthy is a horrible coach who will waste many good years from Aaron Rodgers.

Honestly, as a Colts fan, he reminds me of Dungy.

The Packers will have a lot of wins, but will not get it done consistently when it counts. Just like the Colts in Manning's best years.

So, you think he was fighting as hard as he could just to get it from the 5 to the 1YL? Was Forte thinking it improved Gould's chances?Maybe you are giving Forte too much credit here?

Chicago could have taken a knee without handing the ball to Forte, and Forte ran like he was trying to get in the end zone. I think it's safe to say that that combination shows that Chicago was not interested in taking a knee. So, both coaches were stupid.

Bears won in spite of Lovie and yes I probably am giving Forte the benefit of a doubt, so there lets all go to sleep,Da Bears

If the Bears just wanted to run off time and then kick the FG on 4th down they would have had Cutler take a knee 3 times. There's no advantage to having your RB charge into the line where the defense can strip the ball... unless you're trying to score the TD.

As Packer fans we were screaming at the TV to let them score at the end. Bad decision by McCarthy. He also made a bad decision by losing a TO over that challenge. It basically topped off a whole night of bad decisions by the Packers, who got out coached and let penalties cost them the game.

Having said that, I truly don't think McCarthy is a horrible coach. I think he has made a lot more good decisions than bad over the years (including many time management situations), and will learn from this and be better next time. Why he couldn't do so tonight though is beyond me...

It would have made a fun stand-around.

Jay hands it off to Forte. Forte stands there. The Packers try to let him score. Forte continues to stand there watching the clock tick before eventually taking a knee between the hashmarks or falling into the end zone as the clock winds down.

Someday, we'll see this play out and I really can't wait..

"Please score on us..."

"No, thank you. We prefer to wait."
