Why Tom Brady may be the best of the best (1 Viewer)

Stats and Tds mean nothing anymore. Stafford was 5000 yards and 41 tds in his first full seadon in the NFL.

Qbs are measured in SB wins and losses.

Brady is one game over .500, although there's no denying he's great, you couldn't give him the title as greatest ever.

Montana is the greatest QB if all time. I can still see his arms go straight up after a Td pass to beat you. That guy was a cold blooded killer.
If that's the case then let me introduce you to the greatest QB of all time.
And there are people who will tell you they think Graham is the greatest QB of all time. It was something that came up on local sports radio in an interview with Joe Namath during Radio Row at the Super Bowl this week.

Bradys a HOF QB. Nobody doubts that. But I hate the constituency within Patriots Nation that tries and shove it down everyones throat that hes the best ever. Peyton was more prolific. Montana was more clutch. Jeez, even Eli has his number head to head.

As someone else said hes not even the best of his generation.

Bracing for the "regular season wins dont mean anything" and the "or the post season games that I say dont count for anything".

That 4th quarter was the worst ive seen both teams play all year, jesus that game got ugly quick.

Aaron Hernandez, you are no longer even in the same conversation as the elite TEs, you proved all my suspicions right all year this year, great cog in the Patriots machine, but you are so incredibly unreliable its almost not worth it.

Pats better blow both their first rounds on DBs or I will lose all faith in BBs drafting skills, its impossible to knock down a pass when you are 5 feet behind every receiver on the field, FFS. Mccourty better not move to safety next year, he played like crap the entire game.

No worries, Brady will still probably give you a reacharound

Brady had never been in the situation in the playoffs of needing to drive his team down the field for a TD to keep from losing (the situation Eli beat him in 2008). Now he has, and he had a minute on the clock and a timeout. If he wanted to claim his spot as the best of the best, this was his chance. He blew it. 2-6 for 40 yards and a sack on the last drive.

27/41, 2 TD 1 (bad) INT doesn't get it done.

Left out the part where the patriots receivers looked like giants receivers last year. Brady didnt play great, but you cant blame Brady for Hernandez, Branch and Welker managing to drop more balls then they had all season.

:goodposting:Brady was not clutch in their SB wins. Adam Vinatieri was clutch.

Actually he HAS been in this exact situation before, in the 1st Giants vs Pats Super Bowl, he came up short in that situation too.Tom Brady is Captain Comeback for the FG drive win but he has yet to do what Eli, Ben, and Joe Montana have done, score a TD in their teams final drive to come from behind and win the Super Bowl. Eli has done it twice. Brady has failed twice.

To be fair to Brady, he did not have anywhere near the same amount of time as Eli had in either game to pull out the game.

Against the Giants the first time he only needed a FG to tie. Both of Brady's last-minute "game-winning" SB drives came in tie games; he's never led his team to a comeback win in a Super Bowl.

I love how his WRs get the blame. The throw to Welker was a bad throw. He's like 5ft nothin a hundred and nothin. You cant put it high back shoulder and hope he pulls that down. The pass to Hernandez was an absolute drop. But to Branch, Brady couldnt get the ball over the defender and it got deflected. Difference is, when it had to happen, Manning dropped one of the best passes you could dream of to drive his team down for the win. I dont know if the superbowl has seen a better throw than that.

I don't know why people even bring up the Hernandez drop. While it wasn't intentional it was almost certainly a good drop in terms of how it actually worked out. It would have been an 8 yard completion and kept the clock rolling. Not worth it from your own 20 with 47 seconds left in the game. In reality it was pretty stupid of Tom to even throw that ball.

The Hernandez pass hit him in the hands in stride. The ones to Welker and Branch? Not so much. I agree that Welker often comes down with that ball but you can't gloss over the fact that the throws were not good. Brady seemed to be a little out of sync.

Yes, please stop with the blaming of receivers. Welker normally catches that ball, but it was a bad pass. A good pass is an easy completion in that situation and probably ices the game. The pass to Branch was NOT A DROP. You can't call a deflected pass that probably should've been intercepted a drop. The drop that Hernandez had was a positive for the Pats. That pass should've never been made in that situation.

I don't know why fans have to do this in this situation. Brady didn't make the plays he needed to win. He doesn't need a bunch of butt hurt fans making excuses for him. Also, let's stop with the "he's never led a game winning TD drive" bs too. He led his team on two game winning Superbowl drives. Just because he didn't need a TD in those instances doesn't change the fact that he made the plays needed to win at the time.

In both SBs, Brady got the short end of the clock. The first game, Brady got the ball with 29 seconds left and needed to go 50 yards to have a decent shot at a FG. Brady got the ball with 53 seconds to go having to go 80 yards last night. Not exactly a ton of time to work with. In both games he got sacked, which really made things infinitely more complicated.

I really don't care whether a QB won the game on his last 4th quarter drive or if he played well enough in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarters to win the game.

I take that back. I'd rather my QB play well early in the game as that gives me more options on how I play defense to maximize my chances of winning.

The point I was making is that he's not "Captain Comeback"--he's never led a comeback win in the Super Bowl, despite his reputation. He's only had one successful playoff late-game drive with his team behind--the Tuck Rule game. This is his fourth failed opportunity since then (vs. IND, NYG, NYJ, NYG). Yes, both his opportunities for Super Bowl comebacks were difficult situations, but he didn't get close on either of them. Avoiding a sack in that situation is the top priority; that's got to be at least partly on him.

Golden opportunity to enter the discussion of greatest QB of all time in my eyes. 50+ seconds and a timeout. You couldn't have scripted a better comeback opportunity...approx. 1 minute, down by more than a FG but less than a TD, 80 yards to go. Pull it off and you might be the best of all time. Blow it, and you're firmly entrenched in the second-tier of all time with a lot more to prove.

The throw to Wekler was off. The throw to Branch was off (deflected). The throw to Hernandez was dumb (clock-management wise).

Brady didn't choke, but he didn't rise to the occasion. He's great. He's not the best of the best.

Which is exactly why I don't have him as the GOAT . . .
