**Wildcard Saturday - Steelers at Ravens**(-8.5, 44.5) 8:00 on Prime Video (1 Viewer)

Wilson has made like 5 really excellent throws in this game. Consistency isn't there, but the idea he's washed is ludicrous.
He’s a bottom half QB in this league. About to get paid. Just hoping my team isn’t the one that pays him.
I'd call him a league average QB. That's still far from washed, which is all my point was. He is not the reason the Steelers are losing this game at all.
He's "a" reason, but he's pretty far down the list. He's rolled himself into a couple of sacks/etc.

Coaching is the top reason for this Steeler performance. They were probably going to lose anyway, but the play calling (particularly on offense) early was borderline cowardly. Pretty much ended any hope they may have had.
Talent differential is the biggest reason. Ravens are better everywhere except EDGE.
Yes, which is why you can't have the coaches making the calls they were making.

If they wanted any hope at all they had to be bold. The coaches turtled the entire first half
He turtles every single year in the playoffs. It’s sad.

The funniest thing to me with these 5 one and done games is that they always start slow every single time,

Jags were up 21-0
Clev were up 28-0
Buf were up 21-0
Bal was up 21-0
Against KC they wen up 7-0 but were soon down 35-7

There is something wrong with team preparation come playoff time. The excuse of QB falls short when the same happened with a HOFer under centre.

They/he are content trying to build a team that wins games 17-10. It does not work in today's NFL against legit playoff teams

Yeah they have come out flat in playoff games for a very long time. With apparently zero urgency or desire to show any kind of innovation to change it

The Rooney family's overemphasis on adhering to the Rooney Rule has resulted in them retaining Mike Tomlin as head coach, despite recent performance challenges.

Worst part is the defense always collapses but Tomlin never blames that part of the game.

Hes a defensive minded coach. If the defense sucks, he has to own up to it. Easier to blame the conservative, risk averse, talent lacking offense that he wants his team to run to fit with his overall plan to win ugly.

That game against Jax (where we were favored at home), the team was saved by epic individual performances by Ben, Bell and Brown in the 2nd half. They were so unprepared going into that game. Common theme. But Tomlin is a great coach.

Bingo!!!

At Tampa Mike was a secondary coach. He never ascended to defensive coordinator there. He had to leave to become the defensive coordinator for the Vikings.

To this day I still CANT believe the Steelers over reached by hiring a guy with 1 year of experience as DC.

I dont think this is even a blip on the radar for them. Theyve employed a minority coach for a couple decades cuz they want to "save face"? Nah, bruh.

They are just incredibly loyal and value tradition...to a fault. Tomlins players like playing for him. I think the owners value that too. But its not winning them titles.

Wait, so now he was a bad hire in the first place?

Some real Ricky Bobby opinions in this thread. Sheesh, if you aren't Brady/Belichick or Mahomes/Reid, I guess you just suck then.

No he was a good hire, but he reached his playoff peak long ago when he was a passenger to the inherited coordinators and stacked football team.

Right now he's good enough for regular season accolades, nothing more. Blaming QBs is meaningless because the same things happened with Ben, who is a HOFer.

The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2017.

*ahem*

Not as bad as 32 years but still pretty frustrating for the hometown fans, eh.

Steelers finish the season on a five-game losing streak, and drop to 0-5 in the playoffs over the past eight seasons.

Tomlin has only won a playoff game in 4 of 18 seasons as a HC (2008, 2010, 2015, 2016).

His playoff record: 8-11

2007: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2008: 3-0; won Super Bowl
2010: 2-1; lost Super Bowl
2011: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2014: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2015: 1-1; lost in divisional round
2016: 2-1; lost AFC champ game
2017: 0-1; lost in divisional round
2020: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2021: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2023: 0-1; lost in wild card round
2024: 0-1; lost in wild card round

As bad as that looks, it's even worse if you consider the last 3 playoff wins where against these QBs:

2015
AJ. McCarron (CIN)

2016
M. Moore (MIA)
A. Smith (KC)

So since the Steelers lost the SB to GB in 2010, the Steelers are 3-9, while giving up 40+ multiple times, and their only wins were against A. Smith and two backup QBs. Yikes!

I agree with this too. The, is it Jackson or Henry puzzle baffled Pittsburgh. At this level, even a defense that's easy to push around & forced to cheat to stop anything suddenly becomes formidable when they know what the offense is running. However, when they're in read/react & guessing isn't working... I don't know, seems better to consistently take something away, the short game. That way, while undermanned in the back perhaps, at least they know what's coming & at times come out of their short zone overload on the pre-snap.

They tried. They couldn't stop it. I think Jackson's five designed runs to open the game messed up Pittsburgh.
That was interesting. They almost always make him hand the ball on those plays and then try to deal with the rb. I don’t know if they just wanted to make him keep it so they could hit him a few times early on or if they thought they could catch him off guard by changing their usual tendencies. Lamar has probably read the DE on the read option roughly 20,000 times by now in his life he’s very rarely not going to recognize if he crashes down to take the rb even if it isn’t the defenses normal tendency.

It’s just such a difficult play to defend. The Steelers stopped it once by having the end crash down and a LB totally commit to meeting Lamar but then Likely was wide open in the area the LB vacated. If the defense does that regularly the Ravens will simply go PA and an easy 20 yard gain is there. It becomes a guessing game except the Ravens have run this for 7 years now so their guesses have a bit more education.

GM gets a pass in all these "Tomlin's gotta go" threads. Interesting.
Probably since he's only been there 2 years and was the first outside hire in decades

He's been in PIT front office since 2001. Official title of GM for 3 yrs.

I get what you say but still, never gets a mention. Its like the owner's perfect, the GM is perfect, the roster is perfect, but Tomlin holds it all back from winning a dozen Super Bowls. 😄
