Actually if they dont rest the starters im sure that they are not going to give a crap on how they play against detroit.... So what may be a hard matchup for roy and company may turn out to be easy...

You think Arlen Harris will be a stud this week... :whoosh:

The Bears D will be looking to rebound from the Tampa Bay game. I feel sorry for Detroit..

rebound they captured homefield.. they have nothing to play for...
try pride....
Of course, if they are playing, then pride is an important factor. However, if I am the coach, I substitute freely, play my starters about half the game to keep them sharp, and minimize the risk of injury.

Indy has proved this approach does not work. Remember their first playoff game is not for a month yet.

I wouldn't say Indy has "proved" anything. They were not successful in the playoffs, but then they weren't too successful in weeks 13 and 14 this year either, and it wasn't because they rested their starters in week 12. Then they took the Bengals apart in week 15.

I'm sure 'dinged up players' such as Nate Vasher, Todd Johnson, and Thomas Jones are going to get rested up....

I'm not so sure they'll let OLT John Tait rest too much though... they need him to protect Grossman.

NO WAY they'll rest the starters against Favre during the final week.

Hell, if they wouldn't suspend Tank Johnson for the game, they're gonna go all out to give Favre a retirement gift: a proper burial.

I know that the Eagles rested all of their starters for the last two regular season games of 2004 after clinching homefield advantage. Didn't seem to affect their playoff performance in any way, as they won their 2 playoff games and made it to the Super Bowl.

Even if the Bears had something to play for, this is a decent matchup for Roy. The Bears have given up alot of stats to #1 WRs this year. Id think about playing Kitna too depending on my other options.

There seems little doubt that the Bears will rest TJ -- his ankle was dinged up before last weekend's game, and he strained his ribs during the game. They have two other backs who can split roles nicely, and home field is sewn up for them.

That said, many were confident that there was no chance in hell he would see more than 15 carries last week, thanks to both injury and the fact that Benson and Peterson are more than capable of handling backfield duties. He had nearly 70 yards and a TD off of 17 carries, which was a nice bonus for me last week in a flex spot. You would think that against the lowly Lions, even if TJ is only in on two or three series, he has the opportunity to do similar damage.

Bears: Some key players to rest?

The News

Now that the Bears have locked up home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, coach Lovie Smith may opt to rest some of his players. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that running back Thomas Jones, left tackle John Tait, center Olin Kreutz, and left guard Ruben Brown could all be held out of Chicago's Christmas eve game against the Lions.

Looks like Benson could get a chance to start with Peterson.
