Randy Moss has established himself as arguably one of the greatest offensive weapon the game has ever seen. Sure he is not the best route runner, may not have the best hands and may not be the best teammate. But being 6'4, running a 4.2 40yd and having world class leaping ability; he was the ultimate weapon. He impacted the game like no other player before him.
People who critize Randy Moss for dominating the game with his physical ability alone mysteriously change their tune when talking about Babe Ruth's physical gifts or Wilt Chamberlain's physical gifts. Do you really think Shaq would have been the same dominant center if he were 6'5?
I find a comparison of Randy Moss to Eric Dickerson quite compelling. Both players dominated their first 6\7 years in the year like no player before them (Dickerson > Jim Brown, Randy Moss > Jerry Rice). Both players were traded after their great starts (to their careers). Both players had at least 1 more good year for their new team. Dickerson eventually faded out of the league (playing for Oakland and Atlanta) but still finished towards the top of the all-time rushing list. Moss should finish towards the top of the all-time receiving list.
If Dickerson made it, I suspect Moss will make it as well.
Agreed. I don't think playing on bad teams will have anything to do with it. He probably makes the Hall, but if he doesn't it will be because he puts up mediocre numbers and fades away early because he's not working/trying very hard and his legacy becomes in large part wasted talent.
