Will "Real Life" Ever Not Matter? (1 Viewer)

Mark Zuckerberg recently said Oculus Rift is a gateway to experience anything. If true, eventually, you could immerse yourself in that technology and ignore your "real life". Is it conceivable that in the future people care so much more about their online life that they ignore their brick and mortar life? Some already do that with MMO games such as WOW etc. but I am talking about a much greater degree--i.e. a pod where you could be in a virtual coma for days, weeks or longer completely immersed in a virtual world experiencing anything you could ever dream of at such a high level that the average person wouldn't want to return to what we know as real life today.

But will Oculus Rift help me figure out Cheryl's birthday?
Down the road, you can be anyone you want to be virtually. So, yes, down the road you will be able to enter your cocoon which will allow you you increase your IQ to a level capable of solving that problem. However, once you emerge, you'd revert to your original level which is why many people might want to ignore their "real lives".

You still need a job to pay for your virtual coma machine, and your bodily functions like eating, sleeping, etc. won't stop while you're in the machine. And nothing can effectively replace real human interaction IMO, said the guy who will post 300 times on the FFA today and likely not shower.

How do you know you are not already there?

Bacause life sucks for too many people and they wouldn't choose that existance if given unlimited latitude.

What if I get a virtual job that pays more?
