Thanks. Do we know what kind of things now count as "underlying conditions" for booster purposes? Is it still specific immunodificiency-causing diseases, and cancer treatment and things like that? Or is it now down to sufficient BMI, high blood pressure, asthma, etc.?
At Walgreen’s, it was pretty much this stuff on the form.

Can anyone verify that pulmonary embolism is on the list that would allow someone under 65 to get a booster?  I'm almost certain it is but I've seen lists where it is included and others where it is not included and don't want to waste anyone's time or jump the line if it isn't.
Yes, PE is on the list.

Just got my booster.  I was Team Pfizer in the winter/spring for the first two doses.  Went Moderna this time to hopefully widen the coverage spectrum.  Good times.

I had no side effects with the original doses.  Hopefully that track record will continue.

FDA authorized for 5-11 year olds.  Woohoo!

ETA: Still needs CDC approval. Looks like they will approve on Tuesday and then shots can begin.
Always annoys me that they wait several days to do this. The approval has been takes about for months and I am sure the FDA and CDC know exactly what the other is doing. No reason why they shouldn't just approve at the same time.

anyone know how this particular vaccine gained interest in the otherwise anti-vax crowd?
I'm pretty sure this one has gained traction since it is more of a "traditional" vaccine in that it is not mRNA. It does use moth eggs instead of chicken eggs, so it is not 100% traditional. Many of my antivax family was looking forward to going with the JnJ until the blood clot issues became a scare.

Because the mRNA is considered "new" and even "experimental" Novavax is considered more of a "safe" alternative to those who are reluctant of the new tech but not 100% on the "Don't need no covid vaccine!" camp.

Are any pharmacies pre-scheduling kids??
I checked CVS and Walgreen’s web sites and neither are (went through prompts to schedule, but birth date rejected because not eligible to schedule). My pediatrician is not scheduling yet either. :kicksrock:

Also checked, only given a wide variety of other non-covid vaccine options after entering birth date.

@Biff84 part of his job is giving covid shots, he should be updated on the latest guidelines.
A little late to answering. There’s no restriction on getting other vaccines at the time around the same time at the COVID vaccine. At the beginning they said nothing within two weeks but that was basically because they were not sure how the body would react. That restriction was lifted when Pfizer was approved for 12-15 year olds. One reasoning was that those kids would also get caught up on other shots but really the restriction likely was never needed.

My personal recommendation is you can get the flu shot at the same time (I did). If not at the same time separate them by a week or two. No hard science behind it but it typically takes two weeks to get the full effects of the vaccine and with vaccines that cause a strong immune response like COVID and Shingles I just think it’s best to give it those two weeks before hitting it with another vaccine.

Honestly, at this point if you want the booster and you’re 6 months out, I don’t think many places will stop you. On our scheduling system it asks you which category you fall into, it doesn’t ask for specific conditions. We generally don’t press hard beyond that unless you clearly have no reason.

The thing about ‘jumping the line’ is that I don’t think there will be a next round of approvals. Early in vaccinations they moved in waves to stagger the demand. With the boosters the FDA/CDC said that the data doesn’t justify everyone getting the booster. They may come back with new data and request full approval of the booster or they may just come out and change the recommendation but I wouldn’t expect a ‘next wave’ of approvals. If you want it, just go sign up.

Big chains likely won’t update their system until we get the authorization to administer late next week.

Interestingly, my chain isn’t going to have every store doing the pediatric shots and move to get them out of workflow with a focus more on off-site clinics. This is one thing that gave me some relief. I was looking forward to vaccinating some kids that have been waiting a long time. But it’s also a really hard environment to bring young kids into. Today I had a horrible with a ton stress and pressure all day. In the middle of the day I had two separate kids, maybe 4 and 6 come in. Both were screaming and fighting and the shots took forever. The 4 year old actually kicked me in the groin while I had the needle in her arm. Normally that wouldn’t be possible but you have to get in odd positions to get a clean shot with these kids.

I’m working to put together clinics with a couple local school districts and I think that will be a much better setting than in the middle of the chaos.

I did not realize this. I could have been boosted already. I will fully admit, I was even skeptical at first but checked the CDC list and, sure enough, there it was in black and white. As always, thanks for the continued solid facts and advice you continually bring to this thread.

Np. I haven’t read the data specific for DVT/PE, but it certainly makes sense, given covid’s penchant for promoting clots.

Welll…..we’re waiting!

Not Psychopav, but got my booster on 10/29 also - same pattern - Pfizer x 2 then Moderna this time around cause that's what was available locally at most of the pharmacies. Also got Flu vaccine and TDAP, because I was due for both (yah, 3 pokes, ugh). Had a headache yesterday but feeling fine today.

Welll…..we’re waiting!
Sore arm and a bit tired yesterday. Possibly a low grade fever but not enough to keep me from doing anything I wanted to do.

Nothing today so always I'm in the clear.

Also please do not talk to me unless you up are also in the super elite super tier of vaxxed and boosted. I am now an Ubermensch and can't be wasting too much time talking to people who I assume will soon be swept away by the pandemic.  Don't worry, we'll repopulate after you're gone.

Im scheduled for my Moderna booster Tuesday. My son came down with a cold (sore throat and mucus, fatigue, with low fever) yesterday. Today I have similar symptoms, but no fever.  Took a rapid test and negative for covid.

Should I delay my booster?

Too many false negatives with rapid (antigen) tests, Get a regular (nucleic acid amplification, e.g. PCR) covid test.

If NAAT is negative, get vaccinated after you recover from your current illness. If NAAT is positive, the timing of a booster shot is less clear, but you can do it as early as the day you’re no longer isolated for covid - usually 10 days after symptom onset, without fever 24 hours whilst off meds to lower temp like Tylenol. But many people would delay several weeks-months.

I am feeling fine today. It’s hard for me because I almost always have a somewhat sore throat. I have been up/sleeping with him though. He still has a sore throat and is phlegmy with a low fever. He will go to doctor today and they will give him a pcr.

I guess I will still cancel tomorrow’s appointment. Ugh. I really wanted this done with.

I would. There's no rush for the booster so its perfectly fine to wait a few days until you are symptom free. Why risk getting the other person sick? That's not very nice.

I was first in line for the vax but I’m in no rush to get the booster.

I am likely to get the booster but Im not going to be getting these annually.

Got JNJ vaccine in April and Pfizer booster last week.  Other than some minor soreness in my arm, no side effects.

I got the booster because we have a busy few months planned and it made me feel safer. If I had to guess I would imagine I’d get it annually like the flu shot. We are getting near the time where my son can get his so we will be putting covid completely in the rear view (we’ve had a fun summer but still have tried to be aware of risky situations).

This doesn't seem possible GB.

Btw, the CDC just posted it's biggest lie to date, claiming the jab juice is better than natural immunity. You may want to read Dr. Saider's twitter. Quit listening to the corrupt CDC.  Unless you are a fat slob or loaded with untreated comorbidities, your immune system is all you need.

I canceled it.  Doctor doesn't think my son has COVID, but tested anyway.  Hopefully results tomorrow.

I just want boosted ASAP.  There are cases popping up in my kids' school weekly now, and several breakthroughs happening in my wife's family (note that now there were 3 positive cases from the wedding we didn't attend.  Not random guests -- close family who we would have sat with, hugged, danced with, etc.).

And now I literally while typing this post got an email about another positive case at the elementary school.

If you look at covidactnow.org, it appears the decline in cases and hospitalizations from the August/September surge may be leveling off and even increasing in the Dakotas and Nebraska. The Vax rate in those states is lower than in Florida. Hopefully, this is not a repeat of the surge seen in those states in fall 2020, possibly related to cold weather. Florida's summer 2021 Covid surge was its most deadly, especially among unhealthy unvaccinated people, many in their 40s and 50s.

OK. If your kid’s NAAT is negative, reschedule your booster later this week.

Just got my Moderna booster shot at 4:30. Feeling lightheaded same as after the 2nd shot and kind of goofy. Currently driving my wife nuts with bad jokes, and eating Taco Bell.

Where do you live? Barely seeing any cases here right now. My son's school has 1 active case now and had 4 total all year so far.

Philly suburbs.  Cases are generally slowly going down, but anecdotally I am seeing more positives than I have prior.  My kid's elementary school has had cases reported in half of the weeks since school started.  So literally every other week there has been a case in the school.
