Parker is gonna disappoint a lot of owners....just not very consistent, and he will not be successful at the goalline. Expect a lot of Heath Miller and Hines Ward.

Although it shows that the Steelers don't lothe having Parker on the team, until we know anything about the financial terms (base salary for each year vs. bonuses) this contract doesn't say much about Parker being a long term solution. Analagously, didn't Foster just sign a new deal?

Well, they can always just cut him. Though now it won't be so cap friendly.I was hoping for a "playin for the $paycheck$ season" vs. cashing in early. Either way he should have a nice season - especially if he sniffs some goal line carries.

I think this could also be an indication in their trust of Roethlisberger and in them preparing to "open up" the offense a bit. They may be ready to start modifying their "3 yards and a cloud of dust" philosophy.

That's what everyone said going into this year's draft.They will be adding a complement back to Willie as early as next year in the draft, he will not be asked to shoulder the full load in Pittsburgh and get 30 carries a game...
Co-sign-Look what they did in the playoffs. I think last years SB run killed the 3 yard cloud of dust concept. FWP will catch alot of balls this year. His speed catching out of the back field makes him very dangerous. Heath will get alot of looks as well. The fact that both these guys haven't got alot of touches in pre season only makes it more obvious to this homer. Get ready for a big year FWP owners.

I think that it also is a sign that the Steelers plan on using Parker a lot. He was only gonna be a restricted FA so they sign him at a cheaper contract before he has a blow up season and costs a lot more. The legend of FWP grows.

Yes because we have years and years of data to rely on. Parker will do just fine.

Boy, not sure where you pulled that one out of. As far as being consistent, the guy got 1202 yards on 255 attempts last year. That's 4.7 a carry. I'd call that pretty consistent. As far as the goaline stuff, it can only get better with Bettis gone. They'll still probably have a different goal-line guy, but I would think they would be less likely to pull him as much in the red zone. Even if they do, I'll take 1420 combined yards and 5 touchdowns again any day! My only concern is injuries. Backs of his type tend to get hurt more. See Domanick Davis.

If FWP only gets 4 of the 9 TD's Bettis scored last year you're looking at RB #1 type numbers. I think he'll have more yards and TD's than last year. When you consider how jacked up the league wide RB situation is this year,I really think he will be a solid #1 and awesome #2 in 12 team leagues for this year.

Another possible upside for FWP is in the passing game. I'm not sold on Holmes and Ward will start the season limping. Somebody will have to pick up the slack and I can't see it all go to Miller. And before somebody jumps in about Wilson, I'm not sold on him either, at least as a #2.

bring out the language filter cause you guys are ####### crazy!!! It is absolute bull#### that all you bandwagon guys who "rev'd up the FWP bandwagon" last year are saying he is not an RB#1 this year....well new flash, he is and the steelers just told you that.
They signed him for this year PLUS 4 more.....what does that tell you?? That he is going to be in a RBBC?????
if that was the case...they would have got a back this year....they wouldnt have ANNOUNCED he will get goaline carries...they wouldnt have basically told Staley "so long"
get your heads out of your ### and realize that you guys who are looking for the next steal to assert your FF wisdom on the WW are full of S***..... so while you all are asking " what is the value lundy has in a kubiak run offense" or "what is the percentage squared of veron haynes TD's now that bettis is gone" or "if bettis has a bad day on the pre game show, can i pick him up on my waiver wire..." ill be laughin all the way to the championship behind FWP as my RB2 putting up RB1 numbers

I'm no "capologist", but I think the important thing here is the bonus. $3.75 million seems pretty manageable. If I understand it correctly, and Parker ends up stinking up the joint or the Steelers simply decide to go in another direction at RB in a season or two, they are only on the hook, cap-wise, for the amortized remaining portion of the bonus.Contract seems to me like it makes Parker very cutable in a season or two, if the Steelers wish. Appears to be a good "hedge" by the organization.

You are scary. I looked up at the URL and was surprised I wasn't seeing FFtoday.com.Anyway, they didn't acutally announce they were going to give Parker all the goal-line carries... Cower just kind of said they would look at different options now that Bettis was gone, and not have a specific goal-line back.
This doesn't actually sound like a ringing endorsement of anyone at the goal line.Incidentally, I think Parker will be good for 1500 all purpose yards and 8 TD this season.

Parker is the main ball carrier and Cowher has stated that he has no plans to use another rb as a TD vulture. So Parker is the goal line back until further notice. Now sometimes Haynes might be in at the time say after a long gain by Parker to give him a breather, but it looks like Parker is the man. I like Parker statement in an interview where he states that TDs is where a rb's glory is at.

I think what this says is that the Steelers prudently locked up their feature back for the next 4 seasons at a net cost of just over $3m per. For a guy who has proved himself in this league already, yet has VERY little mileage on him, I'd say that's a hell of a bargain.
It has absolutely no bearing on whether or not he's the goal line back this year, whether the Steelers will address the position in the draft next April (they very well may regardless) or whether he'll be an RB1 or RB2 in fantasy this year. Parker is exactly what he was before this announcement.

I want to see 2 things from Willie this year.
I want to see that the added weight and conditioning allow him to not wear down as much.
And I want to see him show up regularly versus good defenses, not just the bad ones. I enjoyed him running all over Tennesse, Houston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota. I really did. He had one solid game against the Ravens, and his 21-68 performance vs the Bears was only minimized because of what Bettis did that day.
But when he faced New England, San Diego, Jacksonville, and Baltimore the second time, he did very little. And he was held to under 4 YPC against the Colts in the regular season.
And a fact that's completely forgotten is that he averaged under 3 yards per carry over his 56 post-season carries aside from his long TD run in the Super Bowl. I understand that they were playing with the lead against the Colts and Broncos, but I'd still expect better from him.
If he wants to be THE back in Pittsburgh, he's going to need to do it against some of the better defenses if the Steelers want to be a top team. With a schedule this year featuring games against Baltimore twice, Miami, Jacksonville, San Diego, Denver, Tampa Bay, and Carolina, he's going to need to step up his game.
