Robbie Erlin
Should've gone Rizzo/Erlin on the most recent turn -- Thome and especially Treanor would've easily fallen another few rounds. Not sure how many or if any innings he will get, but might as well take a chance right now.Robbie ErlinShould've gone Rizzo/Erlin on the most recent turn -- Thome and especially Treanor would've easily fallen another few rounds.
I nearly typed him in at my last pick too. I think he's a Sept call-up though so it'll be a crapshoot as to how many innings he gets and if they are usable. Still a good pick though, you never know who will get hurt and he's as good a lottery ticket as any.Not sure how many or if any innings he will get, but might as well take a chance right now.Robbie ErlinShould've gone Rizzo/Erlin on the most recent turn -- Thome and especially Treanor would've easily fallen another few rounds.

Decided to wait on Erlin when I read something earlier today that suggested he wouldn't make the 25-man opening-day roster and that it wasn't really that close. Some things I read prior to that made it seem that Erlin was, at the time, a likely prospect to make the Opening Day squad. Now I'm wondering if I got warned off by one pessimistic report, or if that writer actually has the right read on the situation. Not sure how many or if any innings he will get, but might as well take a chance right now.
I wouldn't have picked Thome for a few more rounds yet. Still worried about a few more full-timers first.BTW, was it ever officially decided if we're doing 50 rounds? Or stopping at 40?Was Thome on anyone's radar at all, or was that just idiocy on my part?Treanor was picked because I was on tilt after the Rizzo selection, and then decided to just go ahead and close out my catcher position (bending over backwards to avoid having fewer than 400 catcher PAs again).

Almost picked him with each of my last 4 or 5 picks. Seriously. Like the Dread Pirate Roberts and Westley. "I will most likely pick him next round."Was Thome on anyone's radar at all, or was that just idiocy on my part?

How many WIS-usable players did we really miss last season besides Ryan Vogelsong?30? 40? There were plenty.I've been assuming 50BTW, was it ever officially decided if we're doing 50 rounds? Or stopping at 40?How many WIS-usable players did we really miss last season besides Ryan Vogelsong?
Had him last year, and loved his debut. He cooled off after a while, but he showed a lot of promise. Safeco sucks for his power, though.25.20 Casper Wells, OF

OK ... it was only a little idiotic, then.Seriously, Thome had a .820+ OPS last season over 300 or so PAs with 15 HRs. If he hits about that well -- or, say, 10% worse -- over 50-100 ABs, that will serve well as a bench bat.Pie-int-the-sky scenario is that he somehow qualifies as a passable 1B glove (say, B-/D), gets 200 PAs, and can serve as legit insurance against a late-season Adrian Gonzales injury (knock on wood).Almost picked [Thome] with each of my last 4 or 5 picks. Seriously. Like the Dread Pirate Roberts and Westley. "I will most likely pick him next round."

I was aware Helton was being held to 100-110 starts prior to today. What I didn't know is if Giambi would get a large portion of those remaining starts. I final search before my pick did find Tracy's quote. If healthy, he looks a lock for 162 quality PH PA's.You'll like this news if you haven't already seen it.Jason Giambi, 1B, Rockies

i don't see it (that there will be another one this year). Vogelsong strikes me as a "black swan" event.I guarantee there will be a Ryan Vogelsong this year. We could have gone 70 rounds and he probably wouldn't have been picked.
He wasn't the only decent performer who was overlooked in a 960 player deep draft. In retrospect, some like Kotchman should have been drafted but there were others who were way off everyone's radar in March 2011.If we go 50 rounds this year, that's 240 more players to be picked but the hit/miss ratio of the final rounds is really low.i don't see it (that there will be another one this year).
