WIS MMXI: Back to the Future Edition- Draft & Season Thread (2 Viewers)

RePick

30 . 12 ( 708 ) ChemX - Omar Vizquel Util CWS

Position versatility, switch hitter, hope he hits somewhat like he did last year

SS/2B Chin Ling Hu, Who?, Mets

This pick is just so I can say, that guy is on my fantasy team for the double switch that happens at the one Mets game I go to this year.

I missed that we were doing 3 picks yesterday, sorry.

30 . 20 ( 716 ) jfranco77 Jesse Litsch, SP TOR

I'm not sure how he managed to post a 3.1 K/9 last year but hopefully he improves that a bit.

30.15 Michael Saunders

He's probably headed to AAA and it's pretty obvious to everyone else that he's a bust, but for some reason I keep holding out hope for this guy to figure it out.

30.24 Jesus Flores, C NATS (for now)

Is this guy there? My first page searches have been failing me.

Robinson Chirinos, C TB

I may end up with no backup catcher even though I drafted two, but I'm hoping either Montero or Chirinos gets 50 ABs this season.

I bet we'll see a lot of minor trades like that...trading some catcher PAs for a lefty reliever or something similar.

I have got:

3 catchers

3 first basemen

1 second baseman

3 shortstops

1 third baseman

5 outfielders

8 starting pitchers (though Rzep might now be a reliever)

7 relief pitchers

I have

2 catchers

2 first basemen

1 second baseman

1 third baseman

1 shortstop

3 utility guys that can cover 2nd/3rd/SS/OF

5 outfielders

7 starting pitchers

9 relievers

Publicly responding to Cheese's PM questions:

2 things I couldn't easily find in the threads...

1. How do the playoffs work for this? How many teams/games?

4 playoff teams/league (3 divisional champs plus 1 WC

) = 8 total

Opening round is best of 5. LCS and WS are best of 7

2. Are we playing for money (outside of fee to buy the team)? I think Moops mentioned throwing in 10 bucks or something. Did we decide on that?

Nothing formal beyond the WIS fees. I'll open an in-season thread next week for roster rankings, trades, etc. If people want to make side bets there, that certainly isn't discouraged.

I think it'll be hard to drive unanimity around any additional prize money, but if someone wants to run with that ball, I'll go along with the majority.

6 SPs7 RPsI look to be light on pitching, crap.
I've got 7 SPs and 5 RPs right now (and that's counting Billy Wagner). I still feel OK about it, though.Everyone we're picking now is a total shot in the dark, so far as I can tell. I did pick up 6 for-sure MLB starters + Pirate prospect Rudy Owens. Hopefully, out of those 7, I can use at least one for credible long relief (especially if someone gets hurt in the summer, but has decent stats).I also have 4 for-sure MLB relievers (not counting Wagner) at the moment. I think Marmol's stats are more or less locked in stone, health willing. What I'm hoping is that the other three for-sure relievers don't put up 30-IP seasons ... need each of those guys in the 60-70 range. If I can get that, feel I only need one late-round RP to break out as a usuable WIS sim RP. If Wagner un-retires and does well for someone, that's gravy. And if I still have holes in the staff? Well ... then I guess I'll have to hammer the phone lines and hope I have some nice trade bait :D

Fortunately for you, RP is the only position with any depth remaining over the last five rounds.
