WIS MMXI: Back to the Future Edition- Draft & Season Thread (3 Viewers)

Need James Loney to wake up and start hitting like his career averages. Was hoping that with Mauer, I wouldn't need to have an especally high-OPS 1B ... but I need better than Loney's .392 OPS.

Mauer's "leg weakness" thing seems to be tied to a recent influenza diagnosis ... so Mauer should return by around May 1st. Hoping that herniated disk rumor is nothing more than baseless fan-forum fodder.

If things hold to form -- and yeah, we're just 1/10 of the way into the season -- the strengths of my offense will be 2B, SS, and 3B. SS Asdrubal Cabrera has been cooling off some -- an no way he keeps up the power -- but he's been a very nice find so far. Meanwhile, Juan Pierre is starting to round into form, and Casper Wells is hitting well enough to start in the OF for the Tigers this past week.

Dropped over 50 points this weekend. Going 22 - 115 and some suspect pitching husts. Not sure how bad my team would be if I wasn't getting great starts from the likes of Fuld, Carroll and Baker. I think it is going to be a long season for my squad. :bag:

Sands just called up...will he play some 1B?
Guess we'll see -- LFs haven't been hitting for the Dodgers, either. Seems kinda quick to pull the plug on Loney, given his decent track record.

I think you're the only guy who thinks Loney is anything special. His OPS+ as a full time player are 103, 103 and 99 which really isn't what you want at 1B.

Stupid FBB mag I bought to help research was high on him :bag: Maybe I can luck out, and have one of my other IFs end up with legit 1B-type hitting, and Loney will be good enough to keep in the lineup. If not, I try to trade for someone, or perhaps someone else on my roster emerges.

One thing about the sim is you can stick anybody at 1B and not get punished too badly on defense. 100 OPS+ will probably be adequate in this format as long as Loney gets enough PAs.

Was counting on Daric Barton superdefense at 1B...5 errors and counting. :deadbanana:

Loney's fantasy value has exceeded his real value for a few years because he played almost every day and hit in a nice spot in the Dodgers' lineup, so he kept managing to pile up 90 RBIs despite his sub-800 OPS.

It is plain bizarre how much this league changes the general thoughts about your team. Unlike fantasy, it doesn't matter if you man gets driven in or gets his double with no one on. It doesn't matter if your pitcher gets a win or a save. If you trade a player this summer, you lose all of his stats for the entire season. You watch your players hoping to see them improve their range factor. And so on...

I was very happy when Cuddyer had 4 POs and 3 AST in his first game at 2B.

I sent a support ticket in on DICE...they're doing something wrong there.
What was wrong?
according to wikipedia, DICE should be:3+(13*hr)+(3*(BB+HBP))-(2*K)

IP

my team's DICE should be 1.54 (assuming my quick math is right), it is listed as .04...
Try again...yours is around 4.30 ish (a little higher if you have any HBPs)....the 3 that you have in the numerator is really added to the total

Just gave my team a real thorough look for the first time since the season started.

My offense looks better than I thought it would (LoMo  ) and I should have enough PAs everywhere barring future injuries. Concerned about Morneau though.

To say that my pitching staff is absolutely ####### horrendous would be a compliment.

Sammy brought this up in chat and I thought it wound be interesting to post here.

Offensive free fall is continuing. With out Sam Fuld my team has a slash line of .181/.267/.240 over the last week (about 300 PAs). WIth his it is not much better but he is the only bright spot. That and the fact I lost both of my 3Bs is not a good outlook for the near future.

Can we trade in this thing right now?
Sure. You can trade at any time during the RL season and get full-season sim stats. You can also trade during the sim season up to the trading deadline and split the stats.
