Oops. I hadnt refreshed my screen in a while.
I wanted both...I'll take Tim Raines.
Going to worry about guys I liked more than raw numbers...![]()
you could have picked Raines
Yeah, I was actually... it was pretty cool...Has anyone seen him recently? Is he out riding a dragon?Effin Larryboy
I looked at him at 1.05, but his lack of ABs scared me away.1.11 Jack Clark, 1B
1B is deep, but if I did my VBD right, Jack's still the best pick here. Right up there with Boggs for best overall offensive player.
The only real power hitter on the speed-laden 87 Cardinals.

Raines is the man. I partially say that because he held me in his arms when I was a baby. True story.

Don't call him the Rock for nothing. Ahh, the crack filled '80s.collateral on a coke deal?Raines is the man. I partially say that because he held me in his arms when I was a baby. True story.
The story I always heard is that Raines slid head first so as not to break the vial of coke he always had in his back pocketDon't call him the Rock for nothing. It's too bad that the Pittsburgh drug trials are one of the things he's best remembered for today (along with dropping Mr. Phoenix on his head). Raines also had the misfortune to play in Montreal as a contemporary of an even better leadoff hitter. He was a helluva ballplayer but doesn't get a lot of recognition today. On the other hand, he had a long career and made a lot of money.Don't call him the Rock for nothing. Ahh, the crack filled '80s.collateral on a coke deal?Raines is the man. Interesting. I originally thought the same as Sparty, but after looking further especially with 12 vs. 16 teams, I think good pitching may be very scarce. And while the elite offensive players are few, I think, especially in live, they can be gotten around far easier with less protection behind them and less men on base in front. That said, having the two best OBP players, one with a lot of pop, is a nice start to a draft here.2.2 Tony Gwynn, OF
Gonna go the opposite route as Koya... I see offensive freaks at a premium here.
Before he packed the pounds on
As a youf, this was my favorite player. Loved watching this guy swing the bat.
2.03 - Don Mattingly
Raines at the top and Mattingly at #3 is a nice start.
MattinglyFavorite athlete of all timeYeah I see your line of thinking too... I cringed a bit when I looked down the pitching list after crossing off Witt and Gooden. This era gives a lot of options even in a 12-team draft.Interesting. Well played, sir. It's too bad that the Pittsburgh drug trials are one of the things he's best remembered for today (along with dropping Mr. Phoenix on his head).
Wondered where he would go. Part of about 5 to 10 pitchers who have one big weakness or just good but not great numbers accross the board. The under 100 hr9 could hurt as runs may be tougher to come by or may not matter with less great hour hitters.Mike Krukow P
I'm hoping the less than stellar offenses Kruk will be facing won't punish his HR/9 numbers too much. There will be worse SPs drafted, that's for sure.I don't think normalization will be too big of a factor, although 1986 NL is the definite outlier of the four leagues.Wondered where he would go. Historically a sim bust, but under these conditions those walks won't kill him as much. As has been discussed, all except the top few pitchers have some kind of flaw.Clark and Gwynn are looking forward to trotting down to first against him though.2.8- RHP Nolan Ryan, Wild Thing
Throws a great fastball, followed by a good noogie.
When he's not walking everything in sight, he's a damn good pitcher.
*sigh*I was hoping he'd somehow fall to me at 3.05. Silly me.2.09 Darryl Strawberry, OF
Oh yeah, we were the boys of summer. The drunk, speed-freak, sneaking-a-smoke boys of summer. More like the juvenile delinquents of summer.

Really? If there had been two more pitchers taken in the first round I would have taken him on the first turn.I thought for sure I could "roll the dice" with Nolan around the 2/3 turn. Guess not...
Yeah, he has a pretty bad rep in these things... falling to #23 overall didn't seem like a stretch. Not an elite season and definitely no guarantee to work even in this format.Really? Honestly, I'm a little surprised Koya let this guy slip. Gooden and Straw would be a great way to start his :stonedbanana: roster.Crackheads are in high demand here.No chance.*sigh*I was hoping he'd somehow fall to me at 3.05. Silly me.2.09 Darryl Strawberry, OF

Agreed, he has a rep - but we are talking about a pretty shallow talent pool. He is a boom or bust perhaps, but if the walks are mitigated by no one getting a damn base hit, Ryan could have a surprisingly dominating season. Considering the meh, even with the "good" pitchers after him, I like the pick a lot.About Darryl - Don't think I had not considered the Met combo. But I need to redeem myself from three clunker WIS seasons in a row here.Yeah, he has a pretty bad rep in these things... falling to #23 overall didn't seem like a stretch. This is why I picked him. His OAV that year is under .200. Hopefully that holds up.Agreed, he has a rep - but we are talking about a pretty shallow talent pool.
