WIS V All-Time Baseball Draft: HARRRRRRRIFIC (4 Viewers)

So what do you guys think of my team so far?

01.04- mrharrier - Barry Bonds, OF (2004)

02.21- mrharrier - Addie Joss, SP (1908)

03.04- mrharrier - Dutch Leonard, SP (1914)

04.21- mrharrier - Don Sutton, SP (1972)

05.04- mrharrier - Kevin Brown, SP (1996)
I will be interested to see how yours plays out against ours. We are saving pitching till later, you the opposite. I hope you get some sticks that will drive Bonds in after he walks.
If the last sim is any barometer, it will be difficult to win by saving hitting for later.Look at my team and RnR's as examples. I went pitching heavy and early. In contrast, RnR had some crazy hitting early and filled in with pitching later. As it turned out, my team was first or second in nearly every pitching category, but near the bottom in most hitting categories. I finished out of the playoffs. My plan of playing station to station small ball with high OBP (players I was able to obtain later in the draft) failed utterly. Pathetic slugging killed me.

At least based on the last two SIMs, the more successful teams seem to go with either a balanced draft or hitting heavy.

I believe RnR finished near the top offensively and his pitching was good enough to carry him through.
I agree that weak batting will do a team in. In this sim, though, I see a much flatter batting curve. In the last, the batting dropoff was severe. Here, the difference between batters available in the third round and batters available in the 13th is not nearly as big as you would think.I do note, however, a big difference between the batting talent available in the first two rounds, and the batting talent available in the rest of the draft. That's why, if Joss wasn't there, I would have probably taken a bat in the 2nd.

It'll be interesting to see b/c I thought the exact opposite thing before the draft. After seeing some of the picks, now I'm pretty sure it doesn't really matter how you went. There are still plenty of mid to upper talent guys left, though a couple of positions are pretty shallow already.

Is BBT down? I just tried to get in and got the 'unable to connect to server' message.
and I can't post a new thread at RJ. Internet is broken. All that will remain is this thread and ForrestMail.

.Larry Walker 1997 OF/1B/DH

Probably my DH
I kinda figured he would go soon.
I was eyeing him at the last turn, the Coors affect scared me away. Was he the guy GWB wanted?
nope, the guy GWB wanted will be available at our next turn. I already promised him.
I didn't necessarily want the guy. I just suggested him and was anticipating feedback or an offering of a better option. What I wasn't expecting was to be taking a much lesser player that wasn't even on my radar without being consulted first.Poor form, Bogie. I guess you finally got tired of "catching."

The sim doesn't normalize for park that the stats were accumulated in does it? I would think the stats would just be normalized against the league average for that year.
I think there is some discussion of this on the WIS forum. I think that a later update did normalize for parks, but I'm not sure.

I vaguely remember discussions about this and that there was an adjustment, I could be wrong though.

Good shtick here:

Yet Wright needs more help with his post-homer celebration than his fielding, at least according to Floyd.

"He even tried to pimp it," Floyd said. "He's got no pimp."

Said Wright: "I don't even know what that means."

But he's been there awhile and he may have soiled himself...again.

Father is getting his daily sponge bath from my sister Dorothy. He wanted me to make you aware that his pick will be coming shortly.

Hope everyone is having a joyful afternoon and looking forward to a blessed evening.

RE: Larry Walker

He has always simmed well in the leagues I have played in. He almost always was in the Top 5 in MVP voting.

I searched in the WIS database witha search criteria of all hitters with and OBP+ of 130+ and a SLG+ of 170+. Walker was the highest rated player left on the list and it wasnt close.
