Given all the turmoil surrounding the steroids guys, does that impact Pete Rose's chances for making the HOF? To the best of my knowledge, we have nothing to suggest Rose did anything AS A PLAYER that could be considered cheating. Yet the long list of guys from the 90s and 00s linked to PEDs, "cheating," and asterisks is pretty long. Will all the steroids talk now and in future years end up helping Rose get reinstated and increase his chances of making the HOF?

i think he should be in anyway. (unless stuff he did as a player comes out).

However, i dont consider the steroid and gambling issues related at all.

I don't know what it does to his chances, but I can't fathom why he's not in anyway.

The guy might've played the game harder and with more passion than any player in history and his numbers back that up. If you were teaching a kid to play the game of baseball, I'd put Rose at the top of the list of guys to try to emulate.

No. Totally incongruant circumstances. One is cheating to better yourself and give yourself and your team an advantage. The other is putting your team at a potential disadvantage for self serving, non baseball reasons.

The former hurt the integrity of the game, but as they say, if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. Rose's betting calls into question the very validity of the contest itself.

Gambling on the game is a much different issue then cheating in game. I vote no. Gambling on the game brings into question whether the teams playing are even competing. Bringing that into question likens the game to horse racing or WWF.

With steroid use, the players are cheating in game. While that is critically wrong, there are at least no questions about the game being a legitimate contest between two competing teams.

Not to mention, people will argue that *lots* of people did steroids. Very few were selfish and dumb enough to gamble on the game, evidently.

Regardless, I don't think one issue is related to the other in peoples minds. They don't relate in my mind, anyway.

If you think that players and coaches don't gamble, you are terribly naive.

As far as Rose goes, yeah, he was a miscreant, but he was a helluva player. He probably didn't do steroids, as it wasn't the helper of choice then, but I am pretty sure he popped greenies every damn day.

Rose's biggest barrier to the Hall is the same today as it was 20 years ago - Pete Rose. If he'd sucked it up, cooperated, confessed, gotten "help", etc, he'd have been enshrined long ago. Instead, he did what Pete Rose does best - be a complete d-bag. Lying, thumbing his nose at anyone and everyone who tried to help him, basically throwing a decade long temper tantrum before eventually tossing out a completely ridiculous attempt at an apology.

I loved Pete Rose the baseball player and think he should have been enshrined long ago. That said, he's a gigantic ##### of a person who's done more after the game to ruin his image than he did while betting on the game.

That's fine. When you are a MANAGER betting on your OWN games? I mean, that is not a line that has been crossed. It's another entire dimension.
