With Pittman out 6-8 weeks... the BUCS are really.... (1 Viewer)

Bodysnatcher

Looking to make a trade for a good running back. The trade deadline is about 8 days away.... I wonder what they will pull off.

Ive heard Tatum Bell, Chester taylor, ricky Williams and even Prest Holmes.

I dont think they will add anyone though.

What about Michael Turner? I'm sure they would have to give up a lot, but SD might be more inclined to trade him now as opposed to this past offseason when they looked like a Super Bowl contender. I know they are still in it, but it's pretty apparent that they don't stand a chance against NE or Indy. I haven't heard anything, but he looks like the best backup in the league right now (especially after yesterday)

Is the Bucs situtation going to be like Denver last week? Cause if it is then we better understand what we are talking about here. We're talking about a place where a talented back really wasn't getting us very many fantasy points either. Now he's gone.

I don't think Turner is a fit now that they don't have Pittman who could have filled in as a 3rd down back. Now, they seem to need an every down rb that can pick up the blitz, catch passes, and also run the ball. Chester seems like the best fit, but it's a super long shot.

They would probably have to at least give up a 2nd rounder for Turner - too much if Caddy is the real franchise RB
I think Caddy's days as the franchise RB are over. He'll probably need at least a year to recover, and who knows if Gruden will trust Caddy with the keys to the kingdom anymore.Even if the Bucs are interested, I don't think a Turner trade will happen, as the Chargers are hardly out of the playoff hunt and still assuredly value MT as a great insurance policy. But if the Bucs could get Turner for a 2nd, I think they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Being an AD owner, I sure hope they make a strong push for CT

At this point is Caddy their franchise RB? How many games has this guy played since he was drafted and this is not a minor injury he just suffered...Turner for a #2 may not sound all that bad...

How often do trades take place during the season? I don't know the answer but I was under the impression it is a fairly rare event. I think it's more likely the Bucs have some hideous rbbc to finish out the season with no running back clearly emerging to become a consistent fantasy starter.

being that they're tied for first in a weak division, they may have a little more urgency to try and win now. going with the Graham/Darby combo isn't going to scare anyone, and lack of a real threat in the backfield may hurt their overall offense and ability to win games. even though it may be rare to see an in-season trade, TB should really consider it if they are committed to winning this season.

:goodposting: That's the only reason I'm keeping my eye on it.

To trade, you need a partner. Why would SD or Minn, who still hold out hope for getting to the playoffs, give up critical parts of their teams to Tampa? Short of getting someone like Ricky Williams, I can't see them getting a deal done

Minnesota needs to lay off whatever Travis Henry is smoking if they think they can make the playoffs. But, I agree, they DO THINK THAT. Chili's that arrogant. So, Minnesota will not make the deal.

I still believe Minny is a strong potential trade partner but most likely for Mewelde Moore. Mewelde can help out in kick or punt returns while learning the system and he has shown flashes in the past. I think in the end TB can get him for about a 4th round pick. Look for these 2 to maybe strike a last minute deal. Probably a deal where the pick is any where from a 3rd to a 6th based on how Mewelde performs the rest of this year in TB. It just seems like a fair deal for both sides.

Tampa Bay owner is a CHEAPO...look at the players he has now but were cut from other teams years ago..this proves he's a CHEAPO. No way will TB get a good RB in a trade.

I thought Min turned down a trade for Moore. What about Droughns from the Giants?
Good thought, but the Giants won't let him go. They need players that can help them right now. If either of the guys ahead of him were injured his value to a team trying to make a run is too high.IF a trade were to go down, and I think it's unlikely you have to look at true WCO teams like:GB-Maybe they bail on a guy (doubtful)Philly-No way, BW is an injury waiting to happen.Minn.-Doesn't seem like they are a willing oartner at this point.Seattle-No one to give.So they would have to trade out to another teams, Mike Anderson is an excellent name. But he has personal issues keeping him away from the Ravens now.A super sleeper? Maurice Hicks-The 49ers resigned him to a max tender, Tenn. wanted him in their rotation this year. He can catch and block, and is stuck well behind Gore and Robinson. But I doubt they get a guy worthy of our time.

Actually, with Delhomme out for the season they're in a very, very good position. Falcons and Saints are horrid and the Panthers probably won't get a lot done with Carr.Good luck with that #1 pick next year though.

Too bad the Bucs and Panthers are in the same division, DeAngelo could go to Tampa and one of the Tampa QBs could go to Carolina.

Win-win.

I wouldn't think that any consideration of Caddy's status as the franchise back will enter into the equation here. With the division up for grabs, I doubt that Gruden is thinking past this year - he'll make whatever deal he can to help them win now. Isn't he supposed to be on the hot seat? Coaches worried about their jobs do not concern themselves with a possible logjam of backs in the future.

Agreed. It's become a war of attrition between CAR and TB....as long as Garcia stays healthy, TB should win the division. For all of those looking for RB gold in TB, the loss of Petitigout needs to be factored into the equation.

-- Tiki Still has Urge to Play --

Mon Oct 8, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The New York Post reports in next week's Steppin' Out magazine, retired RB Tiki Barber, now with NBC, sits down with Chaunce Hayden and admits that football is not out of his system: "I miss football. I want to be out there playing on Sunday afternoons. I miss the stage. I also miss the guys a little bit because they were my close friends for so many years. In fact, I ran into TE Jeremy Shockey on the street the other day and I said to him, 'Damn, I forgot how big you are!' He gave me a big hug and said he missed me too. It was great. If I wanted to come back and play football next year I could. I know I still have a lot left."

Sorry I'm not trying to hijack this thread but with the lack of RBs now on the team. Do you think this will raise Garcia's value? The Bucs always try to pound the ball inside the RZ but Garcia has been very efficent with taking carry of the ball, no turnovers this year.Do you think Gruden will rely on Garcia to throw more now in the RZ?

He sure seemed to this past weekend. Both touchdown passes were short passes inside the 10 yard line.. I think Garcia gets a big bump up, especially in 2 qb leagues.

News from the blogger

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are attempting to sign a free agent running back following severe injuries in consecutive weeks to RB Cadillac Williams and RB Michael Pittman. Williams was placed on injured reserve and Pittman will miss 6-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. The team is likely to select from a list of four running backs the team worked out Tuesday, including Kevan Barlow, Ciatrick Fason, Shaud Williams and Tony Fisher.

Fason would be very interesting................

Pewter Report is saying the BUCS have signed Lionel Gates (training camp RB) to the team. Anybody have the scoop on this guy???

Cappy?? Bueller??

ETA...signed to the "practice squad"!!!!

It would be A LOT more than a 2nd.
I thought Turner was going to be a free agent at the end of the season. Isn't it preferable to get something in return for him, than to lose him and get nothing?I realize there is a lot of football to be played and San Diego doesn't want to give up on making the playoffs, but still...

Kind of a Warrick Dunn-ish frame. Decent moves, decent speed, nothing special though. Big-time fumbling problem. Somehow worse than Darby.I've heard through the grapevine that Zack Crockett will be signed if he passes a physical.

...............

The Bucs lost Williams, the 2005 NFL offensive rookie of the year, to a season-ending knee injury two weeks ago. Pittman started last Sunday against Indianapolis, but was carted off during the second quarter with a high ankle sprain that's expected to sideline him six-to-eight weeks.

The injuries leave the Bucs (3-2) without much experience at running back.

Earnest Graham, a contributor on special teams for most of his four years in the NFL, is set to make his first pro start Sunday against Tennessee. Rookie Kenneth Darby is the backup after beginning the season on the practice squad.

The Bucs brought in former Oakland Raiders fullback Zack Crockett for a workout last week and took a look Tuesday at some other players whom Allen would not identify. The team also explored the possibility of a trade.

"Right now we don't anticipate making a trade," Allen said, adding that unlike other sports, such deals are rarely made during the football season.

The general manager said an MRI revealed Pittman, the starting tailback during Tampa Bay's 2002 Super Bowl run, has a badly sprained ankle but that the Bucs remain hopeful that he will be able to play again this season.

"There's no fracture ... and Michael has been known to be a quick healer," Allen said.
