Women in FFL (1 Viewer)

I'm in 2 leagues and have played for 5 years.

In fact I might be more competitive than half of the guys as I am always looking and reading online and they don't..

Im the only female in one ffl and i'm in 4th place.

The other I am tied for first with another woman.

and no pink jersey for me :P

I know where Dazed and Confused is coming from. I agree with him.
You're against "broads" being in your sport driven hobby? Why so? Because they should be playing with dolls? Because they all [insert generalization here]? You don't know every woman to know that you wouldn't enjoy playing with them. Like D&C, I pity you.
You know that you're feeding their opinion by responding this way. Or do you? :P
How? Me (a man) pointing this out is going to feed into sexist behavior?
It's not sexist. It's a personal preference.
How is it not sexist? If I said that it is my preference not to play with black people, would that be racist? What if I used a racial term equivalent to "broad"? Generalizing and attributing traits (in this case negative, or he wouldn't mind playing with them) to people you don't know, based on sex, is sexism.

It's only racist or sexist if it is a public institution. Fantasy football leagues are generally private, and as such their members can make whatever choices they want regarding other members.

I hate those pink jerseys with a passion! :P I've been playing FF for 5 years, was much more into college football but my husband signed me up for the league, he could care less about football. I am in first place and playing a guy this week who is the only one who has more points than me. Right now I'm projected to beat him by 19 points but looking at the matchups, I think he'll win.

Okay. I don't want to get caught up on the definition of racism/sexism vs. prejudice. Feel free to use prejudice instead of racist, if you prefer. But my point stands. Prejudices exist outside of any institution, and do not require one to be prevalent, or to define actions or behavior as such.

My GF hates them too. She got a baby blue Cowboys jersey for Christmas last year. We ended up selling it on Ebay.

You might want to define racism, sexism, and prejudice before you throw them around at people you don't know and then act all indignant. Those terms are pretty hurtful, don't you know? Ironically, one could take your remarks as highly prejudicial.I would gather that preferring to marry a woman over a man doesn't make one homophobic; preferring to hang out with guys doesn't make one sexist; or being physically attracted to Hispanics versus white people doesn't make one racist. One doesn't have to like everyone or everything, even if you happen to.

I have had women owners in a couple leagues and they have held their own with the boys, so I got no problem with that.

I will take a woman in my league anytime over the situation I had with my former redraft here in L.A. The Commish was (shall we say) kitty-cat whipped and his wife insisted on sitting in on every draft, which might have been OK except she knew absolutely nothing about football. Her presence as a non-participant made everyone uncomfortable to begin with and she made matters worse by having this constant inane commentary on the players taken (which resulted in a  response from everyone but the Commish). I am sooooo glad I am out of that league.

I appreciate your passion on the subject but truly, let it go. If guys don't want to play with women, it's okay. When I first started winning my husband would do the "You got beat by a girl" thing and I told him to stop. Luckily, I get along great with the men I play with and a lot of them ask ME for advice during the draft. It's all okay and everyone has the right to do what they want to do as long as they don't hurt anyone. Let it go. Kudos to the GF who wants real football jerseys!

I'm still fixated on whether it is boob ook or boo book......Give me a second.

I don't think my wife has missed the playoffs in her 5 years of playing. She's won the league once, she's been runner up twice, and she has been in 1st place all season up until this past week. Fantasy football is not rocket science, woman can do well just as easily as men.
This has dominatrix written all over you.

Got three chicks in my main, big money league and they are middle of the pack right now, despite having high draft picks. They seem to put together 3 good games each month and then go nuts and tank it one week. Not sure why that is...

It doesn't bother you that there are men on here that have NEVER met you, yet wouldn't play FF with you, becuase you are a woman - less than, at least at FF? They have never met you, yet know they wouldn't enjoy you in their league? Huh. I am not saying we should MAKE anyone play with women, so you're right - they are not hurting anyone and it is their choice. Just as it would be my choice to take action if someone called a woman in my family a "broad". I just pity those subject to such stone-age thoughts. What is there to "let go"? We are on an internet message boards, having conversations. I am not tying to fix anyone or change the world from my laptop. I enjoy my time here, and will continue to do so, even when it is not a popular opinion I am sharing.

Webster defines both sexism and racism just fine - look them up.What remarks did I make that could be defined as prejudice?

Sexual orientation, and who you chose to marry have nothing to do with our conversation. If you decided that you didn't want to play FF with gays, then yes, that is homophobic.

I think she was right on with her "let it go" comment. You gotta pick your battles in life, sorry but you aren't going to win this one, don't worry about it. I think the accusation of sexistis a little extreme, but I do agree with you that using the term "broad" is disrespectful. You aren't going to change the way anyone posts on a message board by making sexist accusations, but you may have made someone think twice about the terms they use if you would have politely told them that some people may consider it disrespectful.

Really??? I'm not sure how to respond, because I don't really understand your line of thinking. I can say that one of her runner up years, I won the championship. It was great when we as husband and wife took about 90% of the stakes.

 I have been playing fantasy football since 2000. I joined my first league when a friend of mine (male) invited me to join. I finished in the middle of the pack that year. Won my first championship in 2003 and have won in at least one league every year since then except for 2007. This year I am playing in 4 leagues and am commish of 3 of them. One league is all-female (that is my money league) and the others are coed. My boyfriend played in one of my leagues for a couple years but decided not to play this year. I've always been much more obsessed with fantasy football than anyone I've dated - probably better that way! :D

Three leagues this year - been in them 11 years, 5 years and 2 years IIRC.

In the oldest league, we've always had one female owner. The wife of our Commish (yeah - same guy the whole time, can you believe it?) joined a few years ago. Both have won regular season or total points awards/bonus whatever you call that payout. Neither has ever won the playoffs, but that is often decided by which playoff team happens to have the hot lineup at the end.

Those two are very capable owners, take it seriously and do a good job competing. Have no females in my other two leagues.

Great responses for the most part. Rather not get this locked with politics, racism etc.

Seems like there are more women on this board than most thought (well, at least more than I thought).

sorry to disappoint ;)it is boo bookI needed a quick name for a torrent site and somehow that came about.I'm in private leagues so it doesn't effect me that some wouldn't want woman playing them in ff.I have never gotten any snide remarks in the past when I have won.pink and powder blue jersey are terrible looking. I like the white jerseys

My girlfriend is in a 12 "man" league. She lost her first game last weekend, by one point. And that was because she played against Vick. Her RBs are: ADP, Foster, McCoy, and McFadden. And this is a league where she can start 3 RBs.Her WRs: White, Owens, Austin, Mike Williams TBOh, and the only other girl in the league is in 2nd.
Geez....was she nekid at the draft and you guys got confused?

Seriously...I can see landing Foster and Williams in the later rounds, but Austin, White, ADP and McCoy presumably in the first 4 rounds...? Was there a run on TEs or DSTs early or something?

Switch Owens, Foster, and QB if you want depending on what Foster's ADP was at whatever time her draft was. It was a good draft, but FAR FAR from unreasonable.

Assuming ADP went 1.1 or 1.2, I didn't see both Roddy and Austin fall to 2/3 turn in any draft this year. If it happened because it was a RB heavy league, then McCoy in the late 4th is a gift.

I joined a startup IDP Dynasty league this summer, one woman (commissioner's wife). Although it was my first FF league in a few years, I even thought she had a terrible draft, picking up Aaron Rodgers and Romo 1st-2nd round for example (start 1qb league). Well what do I know, she was undefeated until week 8 and still has the best record in the league...

This is a cool thread, didn't know there were actually females on these boards. I've played in leagues with women but to be a contributor to a FFL forum is way beyond all of them.

FBG can also stand for Football Girls

Who lets women in their leagues ? Reminds me of Al Bundy and his friends shirts that said, "No Ma'am"
Answer: Men who are actually "MEN". I've been a huge football fan all my life and have been playing FF for about 12 years. There are several guys who are comfortable enough in their "manhood" to admit that I know more about football than a lot of guys(including themselves)I was in one league though, where they apparently weren't as secure. After I crushed them 3 years in a row, I was not invited back for a 4th season. FF is like anything else. There are plenty of men who suck at it and plenty of women as well. Knowledge of football has nothing to do with the "equipment" that you carry around with you. I now play mostly online at Phenoms with many footballguys.(most assume I'm a dude) I have 10 teams this year.
:)

My wife plays in a league with some people from her work. I pretty much told her who to draft and help her with lineups and waivers every week. She's 9-1 and has the most total points by a lot.

I'm sure that hers is not the only case of this sort of thing.

i've been called beetch and whore. i'm sure it was meant in a funning way though...i think.
The worst I've head in one of my leagues is "you got beat by a team whose owner pees sitting down!"Kinda funny actually. It was meant in jest. Plus, I'm sure some of the guys in the league also pee sitting down.

I'd trust my wife with advice on my lineup decisions more than I'd trust half of the guys on these boards.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking 2009 ADP for McCoy. I actually saw Austin and Roddy fall that far in one of my drafts, but McCoy never dropped that far.

I'm sure it's not, although I'd say the majority of women who play FF manage their team just fine on their own.

I'm sure this does happen plenty, but most of us can handle it on our own just fine. I've been asked by a few guys to partner with them in very high $$$ leagues, but I always decline because I want full control of my draft and my team. I was asked and accepted by a male friend of mine to draft a team for his son this year. He's in first place even though he needed a bit of a kick in the ### from me after he decided to bench Nicks week 1 in favor of a 2nd TE.I can SOMEWHAT understand why some guys don't want women in their leagues, but I would argue that you should use the same criteria for choosing a woman that you would for choosing a guy for your leagues. They have to fit. If a woman can't handle the trash talk that goes with FF, then they should find another hobby.PINK jerseys are ridiculous!
