Recent Woots
Yeah, I saw (and missed out on) the BOC... I'm just waiting with bated breath for the report on what you receive.
Trust me, I'm waiting too. This is my first BOC! I've seen people get TV's, and I've seen people get, well, crap. I'm not expecting anything, so in the end, I'll be happy!

Woot! OFF coming this Thursday, July 19th.You have been warned
Insider trading info. :goodposting:
Received an email from Woot today with the following statement...
Let's see, anything else? We guess that's it. We have a ridiculously busy week ahead of us, with a ton of work to do between now and Thursday. So we're gonna leave you with this: make sure you get lots of rest and there's plenty of room on your credit card. You never know when you might need it.

BOC XX Zeitgeist: Stats O’ Crap

Hoooo-weeee! The crap-dust has settled from our largest BOC offering ever, the recriminations are flying fast and thick, and the hamster is enjoying a well-deserved rest from running on our server-powering wheel. So how’d it go?

You people tried to order 140,000 craps, but we “only” had 10,000. 53,238 people placed orders for our 10,000 craps. Of those, 3,701 lucky wooters will be getting their crap (about 7%). 49,537 orders were denied (the other 93%). Assuming you were more or less as quick on the draw as everybody else, you had a roughly 1 in 14 shot at a BOC.

What about that official sell-out time of 1:30 AM? Many wooters are irritated, annoyed, or enraged by the idea that they lost out to people who placed orders after they did. Is that really what happened? Read on to find out...

Sort of. By 12:02:40 AM, this BOC was 98.8% sold out. In the ensuing technical delays, some 43 orders managed to slip in between then and the listed time of 1:30:39 AM. These 43 orders represent .08% of the total orders placed – less than one in one thousand. So yes, a tiny number of wooters did wind up with Bags O’ Crap that they may not “deserve.” We’re sending them anyway.

Before you go damning our servers for those delays, get a load of this: “It wasn’t our servers, it was our code,” says Luke Duff, Woot’s Retail IT Director. “We had to put some new code in for a not-so-secret upcoming project, and that was slowing down the inventory-reserving process. Once I commented that out, it was like taking the brake off. But it took us an hour to figure out what the problem was.”

While there was some momentary server crawl, the load they were operating under was pretty enormous. “At our peak, we were getting about 30,000 web requests per second,” Luke says.

Geographically speaking, 768 Californians scored a bag, the most of any state. On a per-capita basis, Oregon, Delaware and D.C. were the biggest winners. As you can see on this map, the West Coast grabbed more than their share, while the East Coasters lagged behind (red states bought the most per capita, followed by orange, pink, purple, and blue in descending order):

Nice job, Texas! Way to go, Missouri! Woot’s two “home states” didn’t let us down. And check Utah out – pretty hot for a state that doesn’t border the Pacific.

What have we learned? Well, a lot of you really want crap. Most of you won’t get it. Very, very few of you might essentially win the lottery and score a late Bag O’ Crap. Some states clearly need to pick up their game (we’re looking at you, Maine, Indiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and West Virginia). And we need to figure out how to handle that pesky line of code.

As always, let us know what you think about these stats in the discussion below. But if you want to talk about the BOC in general, head over to the BOC XX thread. That’s also where you’ll start seeing pictures from the lucky crap-nabbers, beginning in a couple of weeks.

I had someone else mention this website to me...

Is there a good spot to go to get the '101' on woot? Is it really just a liquidation site wrapped up in a pretty, smart-### package? I appreciate the schtick, but I have not yet figured out why there is the buzz...?

They have pretty solid deals and keep you longing for more.

It's all about the shtick.

Learn me about the "woot-off" please?TIA
Instead of the customary 1-deal-per-day offers on Woot.com, a Woot-Off is when one item is sold until it's sold out, and a new item takes it's place until it's sold out, and so on. Woot-Offs typically last 1-3 days, although I see this one being quick because we just had a Woot-Off a month or so ago.

WOOT-OFF, #####ES!!!
Didn't we just do this?BTW, hopefully will receive my BOC's either thursday (today, really) or friday. *prays for something big*
Feel free to send me a PM (I doubt everyone on here will care) on what was in your Bandolier of Carrots. I was unable to get one and I am a masochist and want to know what i missed out on. And yes, the basketball thing brought the wootoff to a grinding slow pace.

I also am dying to find out what all y'all get in the various BOC's.
From what I saw on the discussion boards, some people's shipping is a little more ahead on schedule compared to mine, so the possibility of my BOC's coming tomorrow or friday have almost flown out of the window. Might have to wait until next week.I saw someone get an IPhone as part of their BOC package, though. Gives me hope that my delay is being caused by a gigantic plasma TV.
