Here to take my lumps... Admit I was wrong and soccer is def more popular right now for the World Cup than I had thought :bag: There appears to be a decent interest in America right now, I'm shocked, but I was wrong as I thought nobody cared.

I guess I'm in the minority or at least not the overwhelming majority, but I haven't watched a single minute of it. Have you? Is your interest in the USA team, or just in the tournament in general?

This is a no shtick poll and really curious to see what the actual interest here is... Outside of FBG, from colleagues, friends, & fam - It looks like roughly 2 in 5 to half the people I have asked are currently interested, just to add some context of what I have found offline.

I didn't even know there was a US team involved. Haven't watched one minute and don't check highlights. Just don't care.

The tv ratings have been excellent so far and the online viewing is breaking records (thanks to the week day time start times).

After seeing the ratings grow every tournament for a while now, it appears they will peak here. The time slots for Russia 2018 won't be tv friendly.

using your exact words, you are not wrong.

The vast majority of Americans don't care about the WC.

Just as the vast majority of the country does not care about the World Series, the NBA Final, the Daytona 500, the Kentucky Derby, The Final Four, the National Championship game in CFB, etc etc.

Hell, even our most watched sport every year the Super Bowl does not contain any where near a majority. Last year 111 million people watched the Super Bowl in a country of over 300 million.

We have so many choices for sporting (and other) entertainment that you are never going to find a majority in anything any more.

Right now if you can find 1 out of 20 people who want to watch and follow your sport of choice closely, you are doing wonderfully, from a national tv perspective.

Why are you so worried about it one way or another? You want to be "right"?

I don't follow Soccer at all normally, but I always enjoy the World Cup. I've watched and enjoyed most of it so far, and I'll continue to watch as much of it as I can.

Then again, it also came along at a perfect time for me. I cut the cable last week and have been able to watch all of it on ESPN3.

I've spent more time watching Alexi and Michael Ballack argue on that goofy deck thing than watching the entirety of the NBA playoffs. But soccer is my sport.
I though the deck was pretty cool, until I realized it was just a set.

Still, pretty good for ESPN to have as many boots on the ground in Brazil as they do. Can't see how Fox tops this coverage, but I hope they try.

They'll certainly be louder!!!!

Didnt even know it was popular. Dont have any friends that are watching it other one guy on facebook who just writes "England, England, England" over and over.

I only watch WC soccer, try to catch as many games as possible and will continue when/if US is out.

never watched until this year, mostly because my son has really gotten into soccer. have watched a few games with him, actually very entertaining. as for other soccer viewing, i've watched a philly union game a couple times and went to 1 last year (and have tickets to go again this year). i used to find soccer kinda boring to watch but my opinion is definitely changing.

I've watched a little when it was on whilst at the sports bar and at my in-laws on Sunday where there were people there interested.

I won't actively turn on a non-usa game, but if I need some TV filler in my life I'd probably watch an active world cup match over watching (insert Marvel, Bourne, Bond, or comedy movie on FXX here) for the 150th time

My answers are NO, NONE, and NO.

As I've grown older, I've become more of an "event" guy than a "sports guy". I'll watch it because that's the biggest event at the moment.

I've watched a lot and rarely watch any other soccer. I'm gonna keep watching but the diving is just completely out of control. What's worse than the diving is the acting after the dive. It seems like an amputation could be a real possibility for some of these players and miraculously they're back on their feet running around just fine.

Interesting perspective. I'm not sure I've ever heard about this being an issue before.

Why do they have to writher around in pain when they're not really hurt?

It's in the rules, a lot of people don't know that.

Okay, I'm going to try and watch at least a half of the USA/Ghana match tonight. I'll prob DVR it and watch after we put the kid to bed. I like sports, but I've always hated soccer.

Same reason basketball players flop, hockey players dive, football players fake injuries etc. they are all trying to trick the ref to help their teams. It sucks but it is in all sports, soccer just has more of it.

Why bother? Watch something you like instead. Why do you care that others are enjoying something you don't?

I agree but I don't think soccer has "more" of it, I think that it's just more of a deciding factor in a soccer game than other sports.

Soccer's leadership also refuses to help the issue by suspending/fining players after the game when reviewing tapes and seeing obvious dives.

I never ever watch soccer except for The World Cup. It is a pretty big deal globally.

However I have watched very little to this point. It bores me for the most part. But there are some amazing games every now and then. But again for the most part Soccer is a complete bore to me. I understand the game, know all the rules, hell played it a decent amount as a young teen in the summer, but as a spectator sport I don't care for it much. I understand it's world appeal. But for me give me baseball, basketball, football and hockey (in that order too). Soccer is no where near those sports for my taste in the realm of team sports.

I've watched almost all of it.

IMO soccer + world cup = college hoops + march madness. Perfectly acceptable to not care about college basketball all year, but if you don't like the tournament you're just wrong. Same deal here.

Agreed. The level of play in The World Cup is quite incredible. And the playing for your country is huge. Just huge.
