Worst Week One Injuries/All-Time (1 Viewer)

Brady is at the top of the list, but I can think of a couple of others (since I had the guys)

1999--Vinny T, blown out achilles at Giants Stadium (Ugh)

and either 2000 or 2001, Jamal Andersons knee with the Falcons...Boom.

There's gotta be more...

Anyone?

I think we already did this in the Brady thread. Randall Cunningham-1991 and Jerry Rice-1997 were huge.

don't think Vinny was that big of a deal
yeah, you are right. 1998= 12-4, Parcells, AFC Title game and Vinny had 29 td passes and over 3,000 yards.Game one of 99? His achilles goes, 8-8, no playoffs and Parcells splits.Yeah, not that big a deal. Tell that to Jets fans.

Jamal Anderson was 1999 but week two and not one.

A guy in our league drafted Jamal and Vinny with his first two picks that year. His team still managed a good season with a little known scrub QB named Kurt Warner.Rodney Harrison's butchering of Trent Green's knee during preseason 1999 was devastating to Green's career on many levels.

you are correct---thanks for the fix...I try to forget 1999, for obvious reasons. I thought with those two a fantasy title was in the cards.Wrong.

Cunningham and Testaverde are the two biggest I have found at QB. Bradshaw played only one game in 1983, his final season in the league, after having played in every game the year before. Does anyone know if that was a week 1 injury?

At running back, by far the biggest week 1 injury was Curt Warner of Seattle in 1984. Warner had over 1700 total yards and 14 td's as a rookie the previous season. That would be the equivalent of Peterson getting hurt tonight (knock on wood).

Other running backs who played in only 1 game after having over 1000 total yards the previous season (don't know if they were all week 1 injuries without specific game logs, but assume most were):

Olandis Gary, denver, 2000

John Henry Johnson, pittsburgh, 1965

Chuck Muncie, san diego, 1984

Eddie Lee Ivery, green bay, 1981

Jim Braxton, buffalo, 1976

Andy Livingston, new orleans, 1970

Albert Bentley, indianapolis, 1991

At wide receiver, I recall both McCaffrey in 2001 and Steve Smith in 2004, because I had both on a fantasy team. Here are the wide receivers with the most receiving yards the previous year who appeared in only one game the following season:

Javon Walker, 2005

Ed McCaffrey, 2001

Steve Smith, 2004

Paul Warfield, 1965

Calvin Williams, 1996

Pat Tilley, 1986

Tim Brown, 1989

Alfred Jenkins, 1978

Losing Brady is the first time I've lost my 1st rounder so this is easily the worst for me. In other years, I lost McCaffrey and Steve Smith those years JKL mentioned. The year Priest got hurt, I traded Larry Johnson away to a buddy almost just for the sake of trading and to help his team. I got good compensation, but I would have won the league hands down if not for that trade.

Obviously, only real life in this case, but I remember Rod Woodson going down week 1 against the Lions in '95. I believe he tore his ACL trying to tackle Barry Sanders. I know the Steelers still made the SB that year, but his abscence turned what would have been a dominant D into simply a good one. I think the Steelers would have had a much better chance of knocking off the Cowboys with a healthy Woodson playing in the SB. Then again, there's nothing a healthy Woodson could have done to stop the O'Donnell to Larry Brown connection.
