Would you still watch the NFL if its basically Flag Football? (1 Viewer)

Just curious what the consensus with players like Eric Dickerson and other former players saying they would tell there kids or anyone asked not to play NFL Football cause its too violent. With the rules the NFL keeps trying to creep in there to make it safer (which makes it horrible for the defense to have to second guess in a split second)

Would you still watch the NFL if they make it basically flag football. A lot of former players say it would be just as popular. I disagree.

I for one would not keep watching the NFL if they made it flag football. What say you guys?

Can't we at least go with two-hand touch? It would kill the running game completely.

I think they need to really step up and rethink hard outer shells for helmets.

Would be radically changed game if they went to something like flag football. Big time turnover in the players (and type of).

Commissioner Goodell, I had no idea you posted here.

Frankly, if it comes to that I hope they just take the pads off, eliminate the forward pass and revert to quasi-rugby where it started.

Been turning me off since they started the whole movement of being able to hit some players some ways, other players different ways. Some get protection, some do not. Some get protection some of the time. Most of the protective rules get applied way too liberally. Add to that the offensive friendly rules and why even put a defense on the field? Spend 90% of your salary cap on offense and just put some bodies in the way on the other side. This is no longer the football I grew to love to watch and play. I'm already pushing my boy towards other sports and am thinking of getting out of the fantasy game too.

I'll 3rd the hard outer shells comment, btw. If they made it out of what they used to make Saturns out of, with a foam interior, the concussion rate would drop to zero.

Limit linemen to 250 maybe 260 lbs.

Limit all others to 190 or 200 lbs.

I don't see that doing too much. It's not the lineman that do most of the damage. It's the 200 lb missiles.

I would, too. Although, I hope it moves in the direction of rugby (leather hemets, or none; no facemasks; shoulder pads - not shoulder armor) as opposed to flag football. One thing is for sure. The NFL as we know it is heading toward extinction, much like, and for many of the same reasons as boxing.

I'd rather see the NFL mandate safer helmets instead of making them optional at the players' discretion. Then tinker with the rules of concussions are still a problem.

Its a violent sport. BIg hits are part of it. These guys put themselves in danger, but they get paid well to do so.

Keep the hits. Make players sign a waiver. I think most guys will take the money.

Im not watchin flag football. And no way the NFL is as successfull if it comes to that. They wont let it get to that........I hope.

This is a much better suggestion than the bigger helmet idea. Helmets don't prevent concussion. The brain hitting the skull causes most concussions.
