Would you tell your opponent...? (1 Viewer)

If they were starting a player that was ruled out?  I am in a friendly work league with $50 entry, and my opponent has Corey Davis in his lineup.  Should I try to warn him?

If he was my friend, yes. Otherwise, I don't monitor other guys teams.

In free leagues, I tell people if I know them. If it's untoward of me to tell them, then I don't.

I tend to think this way - if money is involved, then it's dog eat dog.  As a matter of fact, if I found out another owner had warned this guy, I would consider that a Richard move.

If it was 1992 I would...in 2021 where it takes 5 seconds to find this info the answer is no (unless you know the guy has something going on and isn't focused).

My league guy complains all the time that other teams don't set full starting lineups and giving people easy wins. Yet he never bothers to tell people to set their lineup, just tells me to ban everyone who does this or to police the league every week to enforce everyone set a full lineup 🤷‍♂️. Who has the time for that?

Davis was out last week too. So this is the he 2nd week in a row he has started him?

I never check my opponents' lineups beforehand, so I wouldn't even know if they were doing that. But I do sometimes notice that their overall projection is lower, presumably because they're starting people who are injured/on bye. My position on that is that maintaining the integrity of the league is important and everyone should start a complete lineup each week ... unless they're playing me  :lmao:

In all seriousness, the one scenario where I could definitely see myself telling someone is if it were a friend and I knew he had something major going on in his life that might have distracted him.

Why is it I always manage to play the inattentive owners in Week 1 or 2 when they're sitting fresh with an autodrafted team that can beat me, but then my rivals get to play them when byes and injuries are rampant and Mr. Inattentive has 3 holes in his lineup?

no owner should be "warning" or giving any owner a heads up whether its the guy they are playing or not.....many leagues have "total points" as some form of tiebreaker or payout, etc......so while you may think you are being a nice guy....you are actually doing a disservice to the entire league....

been playing FF since the early 90's....and I can't think of a time where it ever really turned out to be a good thing when someone was playing "lineup police".....

i had to look up untoward.  boy, it's got a lot of possible meanings.  if you meant inappropriate, (1st listed), i think that's what OP was wondering.

What about if you were the commish? I have told owners so and so is out and they didn't know and thanked me.

I realized that might be crossing a line, and to be fair and keep things equal, I would need to do that for all 11 other owners (I am friends with 8 of them and don't know the other 3). Regardless of if they are good friends I talk and text with. I felt I was wrong for telling a friend owner to fix his lineup when I don't do that to the 3 owners I don't really know.

Commish should keep his mouth shut is my philosophy moving forwards.

Yep, it's what I meant. Inappropriately forward, presumptuous.

I don't usually tell my opponent, but if I need someone else to lose their game, and their opponent has an injured player in, I'll probably tell them.

I would want to tell, because it would benefit me, but this seems pretty cheesy.  Next thing you know, you'll being logging on to a website asking strangers for sit/start advice...

I'd probably tell him. Might want to trade with him in the future and he may be more favorably disposed towards you and your deal because you tipped him off.

I don't think it's cheesy. The rosters are available for everyone to see. If someone is ignoring their lineup and it helps me, I keep my mouth shut. If it hurts me, I'll let them know. Honestly, most of the time they don't care and it stays the same. You can't make someone pay attention. But if it gives my team an advantage and it's above board, I'm good with it.
