You have the choice of being told what month and year you are going to die. Nothing can been done to change it.

Would you want to know?

I was just thinking of this the other day. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to know. I think it would weigh on you too much. I would however want a one year warning - that would be enough time to set my final affairs in order, say my goodbyes and get banned from FBG for going on an epic rant.

As comfortably numb said, it would be nice to be able to set the family up. Thats about the only positive I think. Dont they say the impending death is the worst part of living on death row? This seems pretty similar in terms of the mantal part of dying. No thanks.

Absolutely yes. You have to die at some point, and it would be a lot easier to plan your life "correctly."

It would be much easier to live life to the fullest rather than preparing to live to 90.

I'd like a 1 month warning. Give me some time to get my affairs in order, like cleaning out all the porn.

I'm not following what's meant by "setting the family up". If I die before 60, they'll have a really nice life insurance policy. After 60, the kids will be close to 30 so they'll already be off and running and the wife will have her own retirement plan in pretty good shape as well as mine as well as the house plus doesn't she get my social security. Lucky bastards.

yes, that piece of information could really help retirement planning, bucket list planning, insurance planning.

If I was going to die in a tragic wreck in 10 years I'd retire pretty soon and buy a crapload of life insurance.

If I'm going to live to 99 then I may have to revise those plans to retire at 55.

I'd settle for the year i was going to die, or even for a 3 year window.... but to turn down that type of information seems foolish.

If you know you're going to live to 90, then you never need to take out a life insurance policy.

Good point. Another 600/yr for weed and golf.

Yea hello metlife?

yes, that is correct I would like a 100 million policy.

It sure would make retirement planning a lot easier

At first I liked this idea but without knowing when I'd get the warning, I'd live in fear of every phone call from an unknown number, mail, knock at the door, or email, wondering if this was the eviction notice. I'd rather know the date. But it would be handy for clearing up some stuff and taking an epic vacation.

For those voting yes, would you tell your wife ? I wouldn't - but I suck at keeping secrets from her.

Any benefit you would get wrt retirement planning would be trumped by the sheer misery and anxiety you would have as the countdown clock to your death ruined your life for days, weeks and maybe even a year or years prior to your death. It would be awful

Yes. I would want to wipe computer hard drives, etc before the day. You know, just to free up space to make it more convenient for the wife...

Why misery and anxiety? You scared bro?

It certainly would depend on when you're going to die. If say it was 80, that would be a lot different than if it was 60. At some point, you might be looking to check out regardless considering the current state of your quality of life.

I can't even enjoy the last couple days of a week of vacation because I know its ending.

I would be a nutcase if I knew I was going to die anytime soon.

Ok. 2022.

I'd rather know where, that way I can just stay away until I'm ready to go.

Now I just have to decide what city it would be nice to croak in.

You are. We all are. That's why you want to know...

Is there anything else in life we spend so much time planning for, while having no idea when it will actually happen?

Well that's a bummer as I'm not going to get to see my kids grow up very much.

But my immediate action is to retire effectively tomorrow and begin traveling and enjoying life, spending all my accumulated money like mad.

I'm also going to take out a gigantic life insurance policy.

It'll be a great 6-ish year run. I think i could get everything done I wanted to in that time frame with the assets i have.
