Wounded Warrior Project (1 Viewer)

Too busy shipping actual care packages off to some of my best buddies stationed on the other side of the world to keep up with this thread...Forgive me. To his credit, WWP is a B+ cause.

As someone who has a garage full of crates of Kostritzer, Keiler and other German Brews flown over in the bellies of C17s, c5s as a little "danka" from various pilots/crew whom I've done my best to support... Up until now I've not felt the need to get intermediary charities involved. Or to brag about it on a football forum.

I'm still not entirely sure why I have a grown man so excited to follow me around here... He seems convinced I don't "support the military" without knowing anything about me. It's flattering but, well, doesn't seem like "grown man" actions.

Apparently your sarcasm detector is broken, GB ;)

Yes. I threw that in my sig to get under DD's skin -As Bush said: "Mission Accomplished" ;)

There are a wide range of rankings depending on the year and the rating authority. They only recently rose above a "D" from Charity Watch (I think they get a C+ now IIRC which induced a rant from their CEO back in July) and got 3/4 stars with charity navigator (2/4 on their raw financials). There are other systems... I thought referencing B/B+ was being kind.

... And advising folks to give to charities that have a more proven track record of seeing every dollar through to it's intended recipient, while giving to the cause through more direct channels (sweat equity and cash to local veterans causes) is "douchey"? If you say so.

I'm playing in a golf outing for the WWP tomorrow morning. It's $100 for 9 holes and all proceeds go the charity. It's a good cause and I'm happy to donate and get a little golf in the deal.

:lmao:

When fireworks blow up in a moron's hand, it's never his fault. Right i####?

I especially like the part where it's fishing, then it isn't, then it is again. Well played Kenny Powers, well played.

:lmao: I thought the Kenny Powers shtick was from out of left field, but now we've seen the pic.

this is my friends charity he just started: ptsdmma. I'm not going to get into if this is an A or a B charity, he is barely off the ground. I can vouch for Keith - he's a good friend of mine, served his time in Iraq and saw some pretty nasty stuff, and really rurned his life around thru MMA.

no idea if this will take off and if he will be able make anything out of it, just thought I'd toss it out there.

But 60-80 cents on the dollar is much better than zero.
According to your sig (which for some odd reason you refuse to remove), it's 58 cents on the dollar  I'm not sure what I'm supposed to believe
There are different sources/methods and different years for calculations. Some have them up around 78 percent.
Apparently his most current source says 60-80%. Shouldn't he update his sig?

Measuring a non-profit strictly by how much money goes directly to the participants is asinine. While it's great to buy somebody dinner and all, some treatments/programs cost a little bit to provide.

ETA: And obviously the ongoing cost of fundraising.

You should believe that no matter what, there will always be good people in the world willing to help those less fortunate or suffering. How that takes shape and gets administered is a different story. Want to make a difference in somebodies life and not spend a dime? Go to an old folks home and talk to some of them. People caring for one another does more than 58, 60, 70 or even 80 cents on the dollar will ever do. This is kinda stupid now :kicksrock:

Program Expenses

(Percent of the charity’s budget spent on the programs

and services it delivers) 57.9%

Administrative Expenses 5.6%

Fundraising Expenses 36.3%

I'm not even questioning ICON's character. I have no reason to believe that he would lie about all of his charitable donations. I'm questioning his judgment in trying to tarnish the reputation of an important charity because of some stupid I-feud.

I agree.

I've pretty much ignored most of DD's rants across various threads but did get dragged back into it here. My apologies guys. It's dropped on my end. gllll peas.

ETA: Link modified. Cheers.

Yesterday, I donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Wanted to send out a challenge to all FootballGuys to also make a donation. Whatever the amount.
For the second year in a row, I made my contribution to WWP through the United Way.

I give the slight upper hand here to DD with respect to who's being less childish. The only reason it's not even is because of icon's claim to have dropped it while leaving the childish link in his sig. At least DD isn't pretending to have dropped it.

That is based off of an older set of financials. The new ones are higher. Previous ones are higher. The average is probably more like .73 based on a quick glance. That isn't great, but it isn't terrible either.

I personally never give to charities that have that kind of ratio, but I hardly think it is worth getting upset over. United Way and Komen on the other hand...

Received a 2015 WW calendar in the mail today. One of the better charity solicitations I've received . Anyone else who has donated should be receiving one shortly I would assume.

### #### it. I am a hypocrite. Just looked up the charities I donated to last year and 3 of them fell at or below this level. So while wounded warrior seems to be showing an uptrend here all the charities I donate to show a 5yr downtrend. One of them doesn't even give financial info out without requesting it now. So off the list they go.

I actually used to be a real stickler for this. Had a paid membership to guidestar and was real stubborn. I haven't looked in years and every single charity I give to or have given to has gone down. It is the same group I have been donating to for a while and I guess I just got lazy. At least the group(milwaukee hunger task force) I have donated the most time and money to is still at 87.5%. But even they are down from above 95%.

Long story short I will be making a donation. Helping our soldiers is a good cause, and although the percentage isn't what I would like, it isn't a bad thing for there to be one juggernaut out there getting the word out. They are moving in a good financial direction too.

Since the initiative launched in 2011, the NFL says it has donated $2.35 million to the USO, Wounded Warrior Project and Pat Tillman Foundation, which each will receive a $100 donation for each point scored in the league's 32 designated "Salute to Service" games — one home game for each team.
Nice job NFL.

it takes a real special kind of you know what to rip on a charity that helps out military vets
I feel the same way I felt the first time I heard Andy Kaufman talk normally after watching him play Latka on Taxi for years.
