WR Adam Thielen, MIN (1 Viewer)

I have him on my bench behind Waddle/DJ Moore/Jamo in a game where I’m the underdog and want to go aggressive. I know he should be starting I just can’t work out for who as all three of those guys have compelling matches

Waddle has sucked in almost every game. I am starting him over wiliams. Seems like an easy decison to me

Wait… you are starting who over who ? Thielen over Waddle and Waddle over Williams ? Sorry, confused a little !

Over both. Im starting him.over devonta smith as well. Hes getting 10 plus targets and the cowboys suck. Those other guys wont sniff those target numbers and are not the number 1 thing on their offense.

Picked him up off waivers this week (10 team league). Starting him over Deebo (thank goodness) and McConkey.

All aboard the Thielen Playoff Train! :towelwave:

He's been in my lineup as a flex or starter the last two weeks. He is starting for me this week also. Mr. Reliable as long as he's healthy, which for most of his career he has been.

Only fifteen pages for this guy? Here’s his premature elegy.

Somebody dropped him in dynasty in the offseason and I bid right away. Had him in redraft last year. I’ll ride until the wheels fall off. He was awfully good and undervalued his whole career.

He had to play offense under Mike Zimmer and they almost had a mutiny (the players were right) which cost him his rep in an authoritarian league that drowns in its own orthodoxy. He and Diggs were easily the best WR duo in the game but were subject to Zimmer’s run/pass ratio, which torched the team’s strength and overworked the team’s RBs.

A totally unlikely but successful career rendered bittersweet by the realities of the

I have a real hard time seeing why Carolina would trade him. Its not like they'd be getting a high pick for him, and he's been very important to the development of Bryce Young (and liekly would of Tet McMillan, and maybe even Xavier Legette too)

Agreed. I'm all about getting what you can for aging players. Having said that, I prioritize not rocking the boat with young QBs. Jayden Daniels, Bryce Young. You just try to create the perfect ecosystem for them to be successful. Sometimes that means keeping an aging vet instead of acquiring a 7th round draft pick.

I tend to agree but Carolina seems to have 7 WRs they want to keep so one could move.

I get that, but it being Theilen feels like it'd be bad management. Thielen (and Dalton) are important vets to have around for Young and co.

Is it really that important to keep David Moore or Hunter Renfrow? Especially when the difference is likely a 6th round pick or something like that.

I hard agree with those two names.

After watching him on pace for about 1,000 yds and 8-10 TDs had he played all last year with Bryce Young...just once again shows the absolute ineptness of team owners like Tepper

David Tepper is a Bottom 5 owner, sits in the box with Stephen Ross and others
This reeks of trying to replace Thielen with a cheaper version. Also feels risky putting the trust of the top 3 in the WR core to guys with a year or less of NFL experience. I'm thinking if Thielen is moved, Renfrow slots in immediately as the slot receiver, and it comes down to who between Coker and Legette play the flanker to Tet's split end.

Thielen would have some nice short term value with Minnesota but would drop back down once Addison is back from suspension.

Seems like a no brainer to me if the Vikings can get a day 3 pick for him. Renfrow can fill the slot role and they need to find a way to get Coker on the field more.

I"m sure Thielen would be elated if it works out.

Adam Thielen's wife on Instagram. She's from Minnesota. Appears happy.
apparently she's excited to show people her dog can swim. well played

i like thielen and hope wherever he plays it works out well for him and his family. seems like a great mentor for the young CAR WR room. they should keep him, but maybe the team pulls the trigger to make room for their young guns.

welp that's embarrassing coming from me; thanks for clearing it up

Slightly worried about Addison now.
I’m not. I doubt Thielen takes over the WR2 role at his age. Short term fill-in, but I don’t see this hurting Addison’s present or future value. As always, I could be wrong.
Well, it's not going to help Addison for 2025 IMO. I agree Theilen won't take over the #2 role, BUT he will get more targets than Nailor as #3. Jefferson won't be impacted but Addison will lose some targets I think.

As a MIN fan, I'm stoked that they're bringing him back. They had to do something, and even though the price might be a bit higher than what they were hoping to pay, time was of the essence. Thielen is a great team guy. I get the impression that this had been in the works for a while, but both sides were pretty firm on what they wanted. And despite AT not really fitting into CAR's long-term plans, he was great as a mentor for the young WR group, as well as a "security blanket" for Young. They had no reason to be motivated to let him go. Meanwhile, MIN was probably looking to pay no more than a 5th. I heard CAR wanted a 4th. The 4/5 and 5/7 swaps is a compromise (I know the picks coming back to MIN are conditional, so we'll see what that entails). MIN also has a bunch of picks next year, which helps.

Fantasy-wise, I have no idea what to expect. I have a bunch of shares of Thielen in a variety of formats, but mostly in BB/terminator leagues where anything he can do in the first few weeks will be a bonus. Drafted him way late in most of them when nobody else seemed to want to touch him. So very little risk, and hopefully some reward. Meanwhile, I think I subconsciously faded Addison.... don't know if I have a single share of him, now that I think about it. That said, once he's back, I think he'll be mostly fine. Thielen will replace Nailor, I would think. That's the guy I'd be worried about. Not that he's owned in many leagues, but people who took a late flier on him may end up disappointed. Then again, it's a long season, so who knows.

You could be right. On the other hand, it's also possible that bringing in Thielen helps boost McCarthy's numbers. And, if that happens, it's possible that the difference lies between what Nailor would have done and what Thielen produces, with Addison's production staying pretty much the same. That would be great for all involved (except Nailor, I suppose).

I look at it like this. As it was, the Vikes were in trouble in terms of what they were going to put on the field the first three weeks, at the WR position. Basically Jefferson and some guys nobody has ever heard of. Adding Thielen doesn't turn the group into a top squad in the league, by any means. It's an improvement that makes the group tolerable and hopefully competitive enough to have a chance at winning these first three games. Once Addison comes back, and Thielen has three games under his belt... That's when I would expect that things really start firing on all cylinders. Maybe not immediately in Game 4, but somewhere around that time. And it might not really be evident until after the Week 6 bye.... who knows.

Adding Thielen is the fix to a short-term problem. But, that doesn't mean we won't see most of the gains from the move in more of a long-term fashion. That's my hope. Get us through the early part of the season, but then really see the dividends later on.

I think it hurts Addison and Hockenson a little in redraft. Great news for McCarthy, and probably irrelevant for Jefferson.

I think Thielen will be the #4 option in the pass game, but the reason I think it could hurt Addison and Hockenson will be that Thielen and Hockenson win in the same area a bit, and I think Addison could get used much more as a deep threat which will hurt his PPR value.

Thielen is gonna get used a hell of a lot more than Nailor was.

Huge for JJ McCarthy
This is where I’m super jazzed about it.
Me too. Have a bunch of McCarthy shares as well. I was already cautiously optimistic that he'd be fine, given that he's working with KOC, the QB whisperer. But adding a piece like Thielen can't hurt, and should make JJ's job that much easier. I'm excited to see all of the pieces come together. It just may take a few weeks (or even longer) to see the finished product, so to speak.

Reunion: The #Vikings are trading for their own former star WR Adam Thielen, per me and @TomPelissero, as Thielen heads back to MIN after a quick stint in Carolina.

Carolina gets: A 2026 5th rounder and a 2027 4th.
Minnesota gets: Thielen, a conditional 2026 7th and 2027 5th.
Not sure how this is going to work out at all fantasy wise 10 days before the season starts
Should work out fine. They needed to do something & from what I have heard is that he works out in the off season with JJ so there should be some rapport there..

Yeah worst for Nailer. Good for Min, slightly bad for Addison. Neutral for Thielen. Good for Legette. Good for Coker.

What happens after 3 weeks in Minnesota?
Week 4 and Thielen is sitting on the bench mostly?
Felt like he was easily gonna start in Carolina, huge loss for Bryce Young
