WR Brandin Cooks, Free Agent (1 Viewer)

Brees missed him on a 40+ yard throw on the third play of the game too. Looking better for sure.
I think Cooks alligator arm'd the pass after running the route away from the safety to protect himself even more.

I just watched a recap.. I'm still not sold on him, though it is very promising that Brees is back to being Brees, but I'd argue that game was a complete outlier. As good of a game as he had, I didn't see any individual effort that jumped off the screen. And also consider that even with the production he had he was still tied with Snead for 3rd in targets while Watson/Colston/Snead had just as good or better output than Cooks.

Is he good enough to get some good if not uneven production with Brees playing so well? Yes

But nothing about that game has changed my mind.

Im glad I held him (and started him this week).

hes erratic now, but at least hes getting long pass looks...
He's been good the last 3 weeks.
Previous two games to this week..

4/41/0 on 6 targets

6/81/0 on 13 targets

are not typical stat lines I attribute to "good" in a fantasy context, though it is subjective. And not good at all considering the investment most owners paid for him likely.

Welp, I'm starting Cooks this week; last time I started him (TNF vs. Falcons), he threw up a stinker. It sounds like both Titans starting CB's could miss this game. I have a strange feeling we'll see lots of 1st & goal from the 1 due to defensive pass interference in the end zone by backup CB's.

So three short TD runs for Ingram.

I'll take it!

But seriously, I'm thinking about trying to trade for Cooks. Tough call because I also have Ingram and Snead.

I started getting quit a bit of interest in my leagues where I own him.

One owner who I made a big trade with (Cooks was just a piece of that puzzle) said if what Cooks had reversed the first 4 weeks and the last 4 weeks... Cooks would have a ton of value.

Makes perfect sense when I look at it. Over the past month he was #12 in my non-ppr. And he hasn't had less then 4 catches in any game this season.

3 touches, 74 yards, 2 TDs still 10 minutes till half time. He's been solid since week 5 and looking better every week. Really liking him paired with Julio and Odell. I think all of us who drafted him early were a little worried after the first 4 weeks, but we are all pretty happy after that.

So he's an obvious sit going up against Josh Norman right?
Yep, sitting for me. Really disappointed in this past week, but seems like Brees is just not good enough anymore against good defenses. I'm putting Crabtree back in for him this week.

I automatically began nodding my head in agreement and went to look up the stats to back your take but found in the first game against Carolina WR Brandin Cooks had his high reception mark for the season and posted 'decent' numbers.

New Orleans WR Brandin Cooks first game Carolina:

- 7 receptions (most in any game this season)

- 79 receiving yards (4th highest receiving totals on the year)

So even though it automatically seems like a bad matchup he did pretty good the last time. Maybe Josh Norman wasn't on him all game, I don't know but those stats aren't bad.

I don't think Cooks is the type of WR where the Panthers are going to game plan around and have Norman shadow all game. Norman will play his side of the field. Hopefully the Saints move Cooks around enough and get him the targets to be able to make a few plays.

This is what I'm banking on as well. Cooks just isn't a prototypical team WR1; I am hoping the Panthers just don't see him as being worthy of such defensive attention, especially given Brees' propensity to spread the ball around. What is Cooks' single high targets in a game? I THINK it was like 13, and I don't think he saw that many targets in either of his 2 TD games...though my recollection might be failing me.

In any event, if Cooks can match the production he provided week 3 @ Carolina, I'll be extremely happy.

Just an FYI as a Panthers fan, Kuechly was out that first game and as I am sure you guys saw on Thanksgiving, he is very good in coverage underneath. The Panthers pass D gave up a lot of underneath passes when he was out so I wouldn't bank on that game's results. I don't know if Norman will shadow him, but I do think that the Panthers are going to get a lot more pressure on Brees than they did on McCown and will defend the short passes better. I saw that game and I'm sitting Cooks for Crabtree. Probably not a difficult call for me, but if you have other good options with better match ups, I would be wary of chasing Cooks hot games lately. I just don't see him having anything more than a mediocre game. I can see anything from 5-15 PPR points. I don't see him exceeding that. I think I'd go elsewhere for a better TD chance.

yeah. Colston could be a sneaky play against Benikwere. He doesn't get a lot of targets but Brees will have to throw a ton in this one.
I'm watching Snead here, too.
Colston runs almost double the slot routes that Snead does, just fyi. But he's certainly the higher upside garbage time guy lol.

Lead the team with 10 targets and finished with a 6/104/1 line. On his TD, he lined up in the slot, was motioned opposite Norman and beat Benwikere/the safety on a post route. I doubt I consider sitting him again, too much upside.

Welp

Brandin Cooks has been added to the Saints' injury report with a concussion, and missed Thursday's practice. It's unclear if Cooks was concussed on Wednesday or Thursday, but either way, he's now all but certain to miss Sunday's game against the Bucs. It further downgrades Drew Brees on the road, and leaves fantasy owners in a lurch for the first week of the playoffs. Barring a surprise Cooks clearance, Brandon Coleman and Marques Colston will fight for scraps behind Willie Snead. Ben Watson receives an upgrade.

Snead's banged up, too.

Coleman seems to be the guy to get a bump, no?
Yes, without Ingram and Cooks there will be a lot of targets that need to be redistributed.
I'm desperate and starting both Coleman and Snead (if he plays). Someone has got to catch passes.
I have both and willing to only play one of them. I'm kind of concerned that the last time Snead played coming back from injury he got a goose egg. Coleman looked good last week and got targets, but he is an unknown and a total flyer at this point. The biggest positive is that he is the healthiest and has fresh legs from not playing. The con is that he hasn't been playing. This league is a distance scoring league, and my gut says Coleman. Would he be considered the "big play guy"?

Ok maybe someone else can tell me what's going on here.....just when I thought my lineups were all set.

Brandin Cooks (concussion) was present for the part of practice open to the media on Friday.

This is truly baffling. Thursday we heard Cooks had suffered a concussion. With the league's new protocol in place, it's almost impossible for someone to get cleared in 24 hours but it appears Cooks was able to do just that. Perhaps he never actually suffered a concussion. It will be interesting to see how Cooks is listed on Friday's injury report. Willie Snead and Ben Watson would both see a boost if Cooks can't play Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Weird. Doesn't the concussion protocol say they have to be symptom-free for a day, then can practice, then have to be symptom-free for two days to play a game...or something like that. I'm probably screwing it up but I thought it was some process along those lines.

My guess would be he was never actually diagnosed with a concussion?

I really have no idea.

I already started John Brown last night instead of Cooks before getting the new info. I guess it probably worked out for me.

I'm thinking that is a very, very good turn of events for you. I don't see Brees & company doing much this week. That offense just turtles & looks anemic on the road.

Great game so far. Cooks has had an easy schedule second half of the year but I am still very happy with his progress this year. That catch at the one yard line was amazing.

Dude has been a steal as my WR2. Dude is constantly catching passes. He can develop into what Antonio Brown is.

I'm going to make a move for him in my Dynasty.

He's no Antonio Brown but he had an Antonio Brown like game last night and if Drew Brees could throw it down the field anymore it could have been a lot better.
