WR Brandin Cooks, NO (2 Viewers)

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Brandin Cooks has been "the target of multiple calls" about a possible trade.

Cooks has been rumored to be on the trade block for over a year, but Houston has been hesitant to entertain offers for their top receiver. At 29 years old, Cooks won't be in his prime by the time the Texans are ready to compete, but he is a strong locker-room presence for younger players. He is also one of the few players currently making Houston's offense watchable. If he does get moved, it would likely be to a contender like the Packers or Chiefs.

Brandin Cooks caught 4-of-5 targets for 46 yards in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Raiders.

Cooks' underwhelming start to the season continued on Sunday as the Texan's No. 1 receiver was held under 60 receiving yards for the fifth-straight game. His longest play of the day came on a 24-yard reception that helped set up a Phillip Dorsett touchdown late in the third quarter, but Cooks looked like nothing more than a role player in a game where nine Texans players saw three or more targets. Cooks will look to get right next week against the Titans, but can't be trusted as anything more than a WR3.

We need an official trade rumor thread.

As for Cooks he did not practice today. It's Wednesday so highly normal for a veteran rest day and that's likely what it is but they are coming off a bye week and Lovie did not call it a rest day, he labled it as a "coaching decision". Not for nothing but getting deeper in the weeds I believe Cooks was tight with Easterby and I know often publicly defended him. 🤔
In addition to that he is listed as "questionable- non injury related" on rtsports. Ever seen that designation before? I have not..... seems like he is either in the coachs doghouse......OR.... about to get traded. As a cooks owner I cant see how he could be in a worse situation on another team.

Traded to Carolina better?

Not getting good vibes from this at all. QB here stinks, OC and his offense stink, they are in rebuilding mode with a retread as HC who is a stop gap for a year or two until
they bring in the real HC when they turn the corner.

Not sure why they are keeping him and not trading him when he is not in the plan for the team's future?
He should be traded to a contender for some draft capital. At least that is what a good GM/franchise would do.

This team has been an abject failure since coming into the league with awful management and ownership.
They usually make the wrong decision on what to do and how to run the team

I certainly could be wrong, but not buying the Texans intend to trade him. Gave him a big extension earlier this year, Metchie may never see the field, Collins is now injured, they’ll be drafting Stroud or Young next year and he’ll need someone to throw to. They do have picks to draft a new WR but you need more than one these days in most offenses and they have lots of other holes they still need to address.

Carolina is trading players away not trading for them. But yes going to Carolina would be marginally worse.

ProFootballTalk reports "there’s talk in league circles" Texans WR Brandin Cooks could be heading back to the Rams.

Cooks is willing to take less guaranteed money in 2023 in order to return to L.A, while the Texans could eat some of his salary in order to get a higher draft pick. Cooks spent 2018-2019 with the Rams, posting a career-high 1,204 yards in his first season, and would give the Rams a downfield presence to take coverage away from Cooper Kupp. Trading for Cooks would mean the Rams won't be re-signing free agent Odell Beckham. The Packers have also been linked to Cooks ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

let this happen

Would much rather see Cooks in GB than LA. Probably the difference between 10 targets a game and 6 targets a game. Either option is better than Houston though.

Hasn't been rumored as far as I know, but the Ravens would be a great landing spot.

Oh good Lord, please no. The Ravens a great landing spot? It’s not even a “good” one, let alone great. Crazy to think that would be considered good. He’s a WR4 if he goes to the Ravens.

With Bateman not stepping up to seize the opportunity given him to be the de-facto #1, makes sense that the Ravens should bring someone in who will.

Giants and Vikings are also in the mix. Makes more sense in NY, though fantasy value might be higher in Minnesota.

O'Connell and Cooks didn't overlap in LA IIRC.

With Cooks getting $18M guaranteed next season the Rams, Packers, and Panthers are out.
It can be spread out. Someone told me here a few days before CMC got traded to the 49'ers they were out as a trade partner because of his salary and as we know they were big on him.

What any team obtaining him will likely do is spread out the cap hit with a bonus and adding some voidable years to his contract. But however they handle it' he's pretty expensive for the next two years as he's due $34m plus per game bonus. Which again for cap purposes can be spread out but that's what he's going to actually get paid.

The tradeoff is this should drive his cost down. Due to his age and were the Texans are at I think they'd view shedding him and getting draft comp back as a win/win.

Giants make a ton of sense for an ascending team that has very few weapons and is so reliant on Saquon. I actually think his value would be higher there than getting table scraps in Minnesota after Jefferson (and to a smaller extent, Thielen) eat.

Cooks wouldnt be wr 4 anywhere.....ESPECIALLY Baltimore. He would instantly be wr 2 there over duvernay. Heck I cant tell you who Baltimores wr 3 and 4 are they have been so insignifficant.

I'm fairly certain he meant a fantasy WR4

With his game being late afternoon anyone else getting concerned if you don't have a viable backup option? I am because the chance of him being deactivated has to be on the table.

I can't even tell you who the wide receiver one and wide receiver two are either. There's literally nobody stepping up in Baltimore.

Options:

- Texans pay some of the contract.
- Cooks signs extension with new team and rearranges pay schedule.
- Cooks eats some of the contract, leaving money behind to get out of HOU.

There are workarounds.

Brandin Cooks (wrist) is active for Week 8 against the Titans.

Cooks popped up with the wrist injury on Friday. He was a full participant in practice but still got hit with the questionable tag. Confusing as it may be, the wrist injury seems like a non-issue for the veteran receiver. Cooks is a solid WR2 option versus the Titans this week.

Brandin Cooks (wrist/not injury related) did not practice Tuesday.

His wrist apparently wasn't too hurt, though, as he was able to like several Tweets leading up to the trade deadline that speculated that he might be moved. He also posted a pitch-perfect Denny Carter impersonation after the trade deadline passed with him still on the team. We're not entirely sure if Cooks will play or not in Week 9 is what we're saying.

I figured the wrist injury was from the excitement of potentially being traded to a contender.

Brandin Cooks (personal) remained sidelined at Wednesday's practice.

He's officially questionable for Week 9. Cooks was hoping to be dealt before Tuesday's trade deadline, but it didn't happen, and he vented frustrations on social media. The Texans host the Eagles Thursday night, and they might be without both Cooks and Nico Collins (groin). Good luck.

This Cooks situation is seemingly getting ugly. Not sure if he is disgruntled, pouting, and not wanting to play or
the team does not want a malcontent playing.

Either way, fantasy wise, does not really matter as the offense, QB play is so bad Cooks was not doing much anyway

Maybe he can channel that anger into his best game . Just will need to figure out how to throw it to himself. ;)

He was always portrayed as being more professional then he's acting. I'm sure an option was presented to him to redo his $18M guarantee to facilitate a trade and he said no. What's he going to get from this now? He's not getting released with that guarantee. Sounds like a classic case of Mr. Cooks wanting to eat his cake and have it to.

What's crazy is I don't think he'd be acting this way if Jack Easterby was still around, Cooks has some strong love for that guy.

I've only been carrying 3 WR this year, one of which is Mike Williams.

Already need to cover the Dallas DEF bye...Cooks sitting would make things even more complicated this week.

Hold my beer.

I got a Cooks team that before last night had 6 WR's. 3 of those other 5 are Mike Williams, Bateman and Aiyuk so I basically am relegated to Thielen and Julio Jones as must starts if Cooks is out.

But that's tip of the iceberg. This is an FFPC league so 2RB/2WR/1TE/2 flex. At RB I got Chubb on bye and Taylor likely out so down to Pacheco and Rachaad White. This team long ago lost Javonte but he was on bye anyway this week.

At TE I got both Njoku and Freirmuth on bye, and of course Njoku hurt anyway. I had Irv Smith prepared to cover, had to pick up James Mitchell.

So I got Pachecho and White at RB, James Mitchell at TE, Thielen and Julio at WR and still needed to find two flex spots on a team tied for first entering this week.

Cut Dotson last night for Terrace Marshall. At this point if Taylor is out I'm down to Kyren Williams as my last flex spot or I'll just take a zero.

And oh, my D is also Dallas and I just cut my backup QB (Russ) so I would not have to cut Dallas.

I don't even mind so much the guaranteed loss but total points make up half the playoff seeding and is the tiebreaker for record so a week like this might just wipe me out.

Been playing fantasy a long time and never struggled to put a valid lineup like this together. I got another team in this format with 7 WR's on the team and only one that might play this week is Kupp but I had valid options on that team for RB, flex and TE. This team I'm putting out is pure caca.

Ya, he is pouting and going to be an issue for the team.

Would not doubt that they will just tell him to stay home and away from the team, deal with him after the season.
Or, suspend him for the rest of the season.

Youch! And FFPC’s archaic “waivers only run on Wednesday night and Sunday morning” waiver system, instead of rolling waivers like all the other leagues I’m in, really makes this kind of roster problem even worse. You have to take a stab/guess mid-week to cover yourself, but still hedge your bets to not drop folks you’d rather keep in case one of your questionable player ends up actually playing. And then Sunday morning is a desperation pick-through-the-scrap-heap move to find a player with a pulse to start at the last second. I like FFPC’s format and leagues in general, but some of their website setup is just archaic (another example is they have no concept of a Watch List for players you’d like to keep tabs on in the free agent market. join us in the 21st century, FFPC ;) )

You can't really have rolling waivers in high stakes contests.

Base salary is low due to the restructuring, I could see them not playing or suspending him all season as you said. They certainly already set a bad precedent just paying Watson last year to stay home. Come March I could see them then trading him then but probably for less than they would have gotten earlier this week. Seems unlikely they would just cut him, way too much guaranteed salary in 2023 to just cut him and let him play wherever he wants

FFPC isn’t just for high stakes contests. This is a “normal” dynasty league with $250 buyin, and their leagues start at $77

Sorry for the tangent :)

Texans coach Lovie Smith expects Brandin Cooks to return to the team on Friday after he was held out of Thursday's game against the Eagles.

Smith confirmed Cooks' absence was a "coach's decision" and not related to his minor wrist injury. "He's going to be in the building tomorrow," Smith said matter-of-factly. "I told you he'll be back in the building tomorrow." Smith did not think Cooks was ready to play on the short week after missing too many practice reps. It sounds like both sides are ready to move on after Cooks spent the week in trade limbo and took it personally. He will be a WR3 for Week 10 against the Giants if he indeed returns.

Brandin Cooks was seen at the Texans' Wednesday practice.

The disgruntled Cooks, who missed Week 9 against the Eagles after not being traded before the NFL deadline, was seen riding a stationary bike to the side of the team's practice field. Texans head coach Lovie Smith called Cooks' Week 9 absence a "coach's decision." Wednesdays are typically a veteran rest day for Houston. Cooks would seem like a long shot to suit up for Week 10 against the Giants. If he remains out, Nico Collins and Phillip Dorsett would operate as the team's top two wideouts.
