WR Calvin Ridley, TEN (3 Viewers)

This dudes schedule to finish season is gonna win people some leagues. TD king Westbrook can't keep his pace. Ridley time to start hitting end zone. Imo

Jags. Previous team
Bengals. Yes please
Colts. Average. In dome
Jags. Previous team
I see that potential as well, but we all know how Ridley only has a few "spot" big games each season.....(he had 4 in 2023)
3 so far this year ... Week 2 vs NYJ, Week 8 Det and Week 10 vs LAC = half his season total and 100% of his TDs (3)
So vs Jax 2x could be 5x this year?

He's tough to project. Obviously need to see what happens with the QB situation.

Somehow still finished with 1,000 yards again despite an awful QB room. If they get Sanders, Ward, etc. can he bounce back to WR2 territory? He was there just last year.

On the flip side, he just turned 30. He has those mental lapses. It may be worth taking a swing on a less proven upside guy.

I've always liked Ridley for some reason. Great route runner. Good speed. Good hands. Just knows how to get open. Him and Cam have been saying the right things. This is also the time of year where people always say the right things, but it means absolutely nothing. Dont laugh, but I love that they have lockers next to each other. Forces them to pay attention to each other. Looking at fantasypros ppr rankings he is at wr36. That just great value. You go rb early and end up with Ridley as your wr3 your in a great spot. Imo

It took Calvin Ridley 17 games to go over 1,000 yards the last two seasons and he will be turning 31 years old this December. On paper, the rookie should pepper him with targets but no clue if that's a good thing as prior to the last two seasons he's never started 16+ games.

Unless I could get him as an extreme bargain as my WR3/WR4/FLEX I'd be out completely on him. I'm fully aware that he'll end up having a handful of big games, but include all those reasonings above and then chain his production to a Rookie QB and I am running for the hills. Darnell Mooney had a comparable season to him last year, has a better QB situation, and is younger.

Heck, Mooney had almost the same exact season but in 1 less game.

Darnell Mooney: 64 / 992 / 5TD (16 games)
Calvin Ridley: 64 / 1,017 / 4TD (17 games)

Meanwhile, FantasyPros has Ridley as WR34 and Mooney as WR 50. The difference between those two players is not 16 WR. Not to mention Darnell Mooney is 3 years younger. Market has this one completely wrong, imo.
Good post. Great info. Having said that and different opinions is what makes this fun, if I'm on the clock I'd take Ridley 10 times out of 10 over Mooney. The reasoning is give me the wr1 on a team over the wr2. I think the market has this one correct. Imo

I agree that Mooney is somewhat undervalued, however I think Ridley is also undervalued at 34. The last two years he has ranked 19 and 27 PPR. The Titans signed a LT and Guard in free agency. They drafted a RT with a high draft pick and their Center is supposed to be healthy. They have a favorable schedule, especially for the playoffs. Nico Collins looked terrible his first two years. Then Houston drafted a QB with the second pick of the draft and Nico has been outstanding since then. I can't say Cam will be a good QB yet, but I am sure Ridley will be his main target.

Will say same thing I've said since he returned with the Jags.

He still has it, age has not caught up with him, but one of the reasons I think the Titans signed him was they brought over the Jags passing game OC that same off-season. And sadly they used him the same way the Jags did as primarily a pure X which results in deeper routes, throws. High degree of difficulty stuff.

If that changed it would be a bigger positive then the QB updgrade, but my guess is it won't change and his improvement will need to come from better QB play.

When you see these stats I'll post I think he actually had a remarkably good season last year.

Those quick stats: #1 in air yards, #5 in ADOT, #3 in deep targets. And due in large part to that and sorry QB play he was 97th in catchable target rate, 86th in target quality.

Only played out of the slot a tad over 20%

Summary version he was primarily a pure X running high degree of difficulty deep routes with QB's who could not throw very well.

I like him a lot better in a BB format.

Other then having a capable QB, unless your league awards points for air yards, the biggest thing IMO which could unlock him is if Ayomanor can take on some of that X role and free him up to work middle and underneath.

Catchable ball % was absolutely horrendous last year. Like bottom 2%.

If value holds I'll take a shot on the hope that even a moderate uptick in QB accuracy pays off big

#Titans Cameron Ward had forever in the pocket so he waited for the WRs to get open. Calvin Ridley cleared and Ward hit him for a 27 yd gain.

Calvin Ridley and Cameron Ward continue to connect on this drive. That was the 3rd completion for a total of 50 yds this drive.
The terrible OLs that we have watched for years...it seems every Titans fan is saying how Ward had all day.
When you've been bad, ya notice that stuff and it resonates more than probably expected.
No one cares that it was the Bucs second string defense. It's just such a nice thing to see.

Maybe the OL plus prior bad QB play, maybe those two; they're a reason for a big uptick in offensive production.
I can buy that, but I'm thinking just some better, let's not get carried away.

Surtain is an excellent bet to shut down Ridley week one.
I would not start him week one but instead hope he shows he can be a star and succeed despite a top CB

shark move is to buy low after he gets shut down by Surtain island...it's his worst matchup of the year IMHO.

Glennon explaining all the stats in favor of Surtain
Week 1 might be the time to get to Surtain. Did he get enough reps in the preseason? Is he in mid season form? If there is a week to go against, I'd want it to be now.

Is this guy a must sit for another wr4/5? Will they scheme him away from surtain? I’m not convinced many if any can beat surtain in man coverage. Also just on the road against this broncos D, rookie qb, titans implied for 17-18 pts. Bleh

I am sitting him this week. Looking at Coleman or Strange to fill that flex spot. Probably going with Coleman. Hindsight being 20/20, J Williams would have been a fine flex start.
:-)

Some of us really don't have that option to sit Ridley in Week 1
He was a 7th round pick in Redraft, maybe? That's a starter until you find something better for most folks.
I like the Coleman idea but check the injury report, he popped up on there, did practice yesterday

In the linked article, he mentioned Cincy moved Chase around. Surtain held Chase to like 3 for 27 but elsewhere Chase had like 8 for 110. (Read it yesterday, need coffee)

Callahan does plan to do the same and has talked about it all off-season for every WR- they're going to play all three spots. He said similar the other day.

Pollard is Pollard, Ridley is Ridley, who steps up? They must have more. Ward is absolutely going to chuck it so...to who?

Ridley is an elite athlete. He's a specimen. He's never been Julio II of a WR1. Never really crossed into that tier. Cam is probably the first QB since Ryan that trusts him implicitly and will throw pretty often to him when he's covered. At 29, somehow he is setup to finally be that guy again.

A lot alot an OMG amount of his career he has gotten nervous and suddenly his QB throws to a spot he isn't and we see the QB and him motioning and saying things on our TV. It's always described after as miscommunication or "not on the same page." I think it's he panics and doesn't believe in coach and changes the route. We all learned this stuff in sixth grade- ya do the play as coach said to. Everyone has their own theory on this.

In spring, Ridley never had a Cam. Guy is a true endearing person that wants to know anything he can. Ridley pulled this stuff a few times and Cam ran to him to discuss it. It's this wonderful quality about the kid, he runs and talks to people to be certain they are on the same page. Even defenders after an INT. Ridley's wrong routes went away for months.

I think Surtain will trigger this habit and Cam will be his bro, maybe run to him, maybe put a hand on his shoulder, whatever showing love is to a teammate. Does Ridley stop and they're in sync and a great QB WR combo? Ridley's always had people barking he's not Julio or whatever- what about Cam's positivity? Those two need each other.

If you start Ridley you're hoping he does what he's never really done "be the man." He's set up super well, yet again, to do so but to expect that at age 29 seems foolish.

Wasn't moved around as coach said he would. Surtain shut him down.
Late fourth, Cam fired some to him and he dropped two or three that hit his hands. At least one was all his oops and he did that dopey smile and pointed like "it's on me."

He must be a number one if he's gonna play number one role.

On the radio, it was pointed out he missed some blocks Surtain made a few tackles on. No excuse for that. Maybe even work out your frustration with a strong block.

It was worse than the expected bad day for him. He let Cam down as did coach. I'm looking for him to say as such and be fired up next week

I said it not long ago in this topic: Ridley is a flawed receiver. He can be taken out of the game by top opposing DBs. That’s exactly what happened much of yesterday, when he wasn’t dropping the ball with those oven mitts in clutch time.

Sucks. I have a share. I wanted to be wrong.

He's always been this way.
Cam needs him though and those two seem tight. Cam is like hollering at him and rooting for him at the same time. I'm wondering if he is what Ridley needed all this time

If he has a big week this week I'm looking to sell I think. I have a couple WRs that are in that same range (Keon, Golden) and would love to package Ridley for an upgrade elsewhere. I think he could have a decent ROS but I have a hard time seeing him hit my starting roster outside of the most dire situations.

Thoughts on Ridley ROS? They won't always face the Broncos and Cam will have better days no doubt.

amazing buy low opportunity IMHO. 100 receptions in play, so I really like him in PPR.

Also, Ward looked good against arguably the top defense in the NFL. This is a buy.
That's kindof what I am thinking. Would you rank Ridley higher than the likes of Pickens, Pearsall, D. Smith, Waddle, Moore, etc tier?
