MaybeLooks pretty accurate actually. 3 of them weren't his fault. The one in the end zone he should have had. The others he could have got but bad passes or defended enough to throw it off.
The Titans emphasized WRs getting after the ball, winning contested catches. It's been a thing all off-season that the HC feels can get em thru. And every radio host adds "til they get better players" to that sentence. Regardless of QB, there were too many close calls that could change a game. This was a mantra all offseason and even brought up as a quality they wanted from Ayo and Gunnar in the draft.
Oliver, Ayo, DMR, and Gunnar will about fight you for the ball.
Ridley- in camp- would out leap anyone and he seemed more savvy with this. He was coming back for it and adjusting a step here or there last second so he wins. Quite a few videos of one handed grabs where he's sorta putting his bod where the defender is and reaching- maybe kinda like a much older brother in a yard with a little brother.
Ridley said things like he felt this would both help the team and him and has been real impressed with how well it's worked. He was sooo on board with this, even the leader of the group. He spoke many times of how this helps build a rapport with Cam so he can trust them. About everyone echoed this sentiment.
These videos are not that.
He's a chump. No 6-6 beautiful running gazelle with incredible ability to run n leap and adjust on a dime and wow long arms should be way down on the losing side of 50/50 balls.
When the season started, we saw he reverted to last year's Ridley of suddenly running wrong routes and having some sort of conversation with the QB-waving arms, the it's on me look, dopey smile after a mistake. He said that was unacceptable as they worked on that and he fixed it. A prob for so much of his career, he hasn't done since week one. He put the work in and he fixed it and great job.
Well we know the mantra and he put the work in on this, so we expect it far better.
As every discussion finishes, it's always, what's it like to be Cam and NOT have a guy displaying a my ball mentality? He's WR1, probably often his first look or best option. He's a spot thrower and the most savvy WR (maybe Lockett idk) can't position his bod better to win more? That's gotta be rough for Cam and with their OL playing poorly, he can't afford to have hesitation but who wouldn't hesitate after a couple of those? Sooo Ridley is being a problem.
Coach said yesterday how he's stayed late and no one works harder than Calvin. It was noted CBs are staying with him. I can definitely infer he's working on it. Maybe it improves but it's been months n months that they already worked on it so there's a Cmon already! vibe to watching it.
It's not unlike some of Chig's atrocious blocks or non-blocks. They practiced it a 1000 times, how can he do that now?
