WR Corey Davis, Retired (2 Viewers)

I was just following up on this and the details of Corey Davis contract and what that says about how much the NFL values him relative to other WR.

Davis contract averaging $12.5 million per season is the 19th highest salary for a WR in the NFL right now. This was a down revenue year so contracts are lower than one would expect in a NFL with growing revenue.

His contract was for more than any other free agent WR deal in 2021 so that tells me he was the top free agent WR available.

HA! Good catch I completely missed him looking at the list his contract so high up in the clouds.

FWIW Golladay is currently the 7th highest paid WR in the league.

Allen Robinson and Chris Godwin got bigger deals also although they didnt change teams.

 
Had high hopes for him as a Titans fan.  Don't anticipate he takes some big step forward at this point in his career with the Jets.  So/so WR3.  I'm higher on Mims for dynasty.  

 
I'm thinking his prospects are looking a bit brighter with the so-probable-it's-certain-after-the-Darnold-trade Zach Wilson selection.

A QB-WR pair hand selected by the new OC, both of whom are strong at play action, for an offense that will use a lot of it. Davis can run the whole route tree and Wilson seems like a smart passer with the arm to make all those throws as well as the accuracy and confidence to put up jump balls and let his receiver fight for it (Davis 2nd ranked behind M.Thomas in contested catch % since 2019).

It seems like Davis has had some decent reasons (injuries, low volume passing Off) for his slower development, but mainly it's been the mental side that's kept him from performing up to his athletic capabilities and pedigree. It's been said before, but maybe last year he broke through that. 

Not saying he's going to blow up or anything, but there's opportunity here for him to surprise and he's relatively young with what is shaping up to be a stable situation for a few years (said no one ever about the Jets). 

I like Mimms a lot too, but if I had to bet on who would be the most fantasy relevant Jets receiver the next 2-3 seasons it wouldn't be him.

Slang phrase that is commonly used in public accounting. Basically, the Senior/Manager will simply say “SALY” when referring to how to do a task. “SALY means “same as last year”. Basically, just take the workpaper from the prior year and update it for the current year.

 
He's a very good WR but his release from the line of scrimmage was often terrible. It took him a few years to stop playing patty-cake with the CB as pressing seemed to be all it took to stop him. This wasn't the case last year. He correctly swiped those hands down and got open with regularity.  It's probable that he's done with that mess. Once ya master a technique, it would be more weird for him to regress.

Now...now, not four years ago, he's the guy that was the fifth pick. The talent is there and we all know it.

Is the confidence? That four years of easily being shut down hurt his mindset. Last year surely helped his confidence a ton.

When teams didn't press him, he was a player just not Julio and Calvin and..top five pick type. A top corner would give him trouble but he could surely get 80-100 on a lesser corner. 

Zero issues with work ethic or attitude. 

Jets fans should appreciate he was coached by Rob Moore. I don't think he's that dissimilar. Now Moore was never as good as Jets fans made him out to be always wanting one special year to be the standard but...Rob Moore with muscles isn't a bad comparison.

Moore glided when he ran and Davis clearly shows effort. Davis is better at boxing out, but both have great ups. 

Davis will get 1000. I'm pretty confident in that. I lose confidence at 1100 so there's a ceiling. If he's gonna improve for FF maybe it's touchdowns but I think you just get what you get here. 

Mims is gonna be told to play tougher and bulk up and ...Corey's a good leader type teammate. 

It's not FF but where Corey really shines is blocking. If the Jets don't run their RB wide often their OC should be fired. His second? year the Titans had a wackadoo OC sometimes line him up as a split end right inline. He doesn't belong there, no doubt, and he's not Hines Ward, but he's a rock solid blocker Derrick Henry is gonna miss. 

I'm hoping he rubbed off on AJ and the backup WRs. Y'all have to hope he shows your WRs how to block better. He and Jonnu were like a cheat code and the Titans are gonna miss them in the run game.

Getting peppered with targets in today's game. 4 catches 70 yards through the first quarter. Seems like a huge redraft value with where I've seen him going.

I've been thinking for weeks that he has not been drafted as high as he should be.

Most of my leagues (we start 3WRs) I'll be trying to get him as my WR3-4 if possible.

I wasn't sure how Wilson was going to look, but from what I've seen thusfar, he looks capable.

I'm not necessarily thinking Davis is going to be a league winner,  but he could almost certainly dish out WR2 numbers, at a WR4 draft cost.

It's only preseason, but Wilson looks more than capable, almost Rodgers-esque. I think Davis will be drafted closer to WR 2-3 in many leagues. After this game.

He should be the primary WR, and the Jet defense will be below average.

This is how I *thought* it might be for Davis for a while now.  But I'd just as soon they shut him down for the rest of the preseason instead of him getting all this attention and rocketing up draft boards.  I'd prefer to get him as my WR3 or WR4 if I could.

But so far this preseason hasn't helped.

I had the game on earlier and every time I kept hearing them talk about chemistry between Davis and Wilson, I started banging my head.

I'd much rather the hype train stop here, than get worse as the preseason goes along further driving his price up.

Ps - that’s a great throw! ETA: looked aN awful lot like that pre-draft pro-day throw he made on the run (though that one was across his body as he was running left & threw right). Impressive.

Volume hog. It's always been mental with him. Elijah Moore should open things up for him a little. Zach Wilson is the difference.

Eh, I think that's a relatively tough call. I'm really not convinced Claypool gets the volume he needs to repeat last season's TD totals, and while I love Jeudy I need to see it happen before I trust him. I think Davis has a pretty high floor while also having a good ceiling.

 
Corey Davis caught 5-of-7 targets for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets' Week 1 loss to the Panthers.

Davis was the Jets' clear No. 1 wide receiver in Week 1, and with the running game struggling, the engine of the entire offense. His first touchdown came on a scramble drill, his second was an endzone target from the eight yard line. Davis' fantasy managers need to hope that Zach Wilson won't be under constant pressure, as he was in Week 1, going forward. Otherwise, Davis looks set up as a solid WR2 option in Week 2 against the Patriots.

Great day today. Thank God I traded him away in dynasty because I was following the "data" analysts. This guy has all the makings of breaking out this year.

I think he had 26.40 PPR points today. That's...big time.

 
So, he was the darling of the preseason, broke out in Week 1, then Week 2 went exactly as predicted with the Pats taking away Wilson's favorite target and making life hell.

Kinda feels like the fantasy world is throwing in the towel here for some reason. 10 days ago, people thought he was a breakout WR2. 

Not a great match-up this week, but this feels like a great buy low on a player that's probably really attainable.

The fantasy world is a fickle one.

I like Davis and, of course, New England is a tough match-up for a rookie QB.  As the top option in their passing game, I agree with your take on Corey and expect him to post consistently good numbers. 

I don't have Davis rostered personally, but do have shares of Moore.  I thought this was the year the Jets turned a corner.  I'm willing to give it a little time for this young team to get some experience under their belts.

 
I like Davis and think he can be much more than a fantasy WR3, but it solely depends on Zach Wilson not looking like Nathan Peterman. You like the aggression from Zach but jeez he's throwing horrible balls out there.

Corey Davis caught 5-of-10 targets for 41 yards in the Jets' Week 3 loss to the Broncos. 

Davis doubled his Week 2 target total, but they remained of poor quality as No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson couldn't do anything to get the Jets' offense moving. One of Davis' missed connections was a "drop" that Wilson threw behind him. Another was an interception Wilson forced into a crowd of DBs, easily letting the route get jumped. Davis is clearly the Jets' No. 1 receiver, especially now that Elijah Moore is concussed, but there is so little upside in the role with Wilson playing the way he is. Davis will be a barely-there WR4 for Week 4 against the Titans, where Jamison Crowder (groin) could return as Moore potentially sits.

I'm wondering if Davis flirts with 15 targets this weekend. Elijah Moore and Jeff Smith both out with concussions. Crowder trending towards a return but still limited in practice with a groin injury, leaving Berrios as his only real competition in the passing game, as neither the TE's or RB's are seeing more than 1-3 looks a game.

Wilson is averaging 35 attempts per so far. Add in the likelihood NY that will be playing catch up in this home game the whole time and that number could be even higher.

I get that it's the Jets but Davis could be just peppered with targets against his old team and it's bottom third pass D. Considering him over ARob, AB, AJB (who is probably out anyways), Ty/Son Williams, Trey Sermon, and other riff raff.

Ya, I am debating starting him in my flex, 0.5 ppr.  Other options are Claypool or E. Sanders.......The Jets have looked BAD but the Titans could be a get right game as in they may be able to produce a little on offense....other issues is Henry may just run it 40 times and the Jets TOP may be under 10 minutes....

You got a tough one on your hands... all of those guys are in smash spots but still gambles this weekend. Think I would lean Claypool with JuJu/DJ out and Ben's probable >50 attempts vs GB... seems like he has both the highest floor and ceiling of the three.

CD could ball out, but I wouldn't put it past the Jets to flatline either.

If JuJu and Diontae are out its Claypool for sure.... I'm afraid they both suit up though.  I like Corey Davis as a hold for now....the Jets O cant get much worse and they have some easier matchups down the stretch

 
Corey Davis caught 4-of-7 targets for 111 yards and a touchdown in the Jets' victory over the Titans.

The highlight of Davis' day was easily a 53-yard touchdown that gave the Jets the lead. Jamison Crowder led the team in targets with nine, but Davis was a close second with seven and figures to be the most valuable Jets wideout moving forward. Against a Swiss-cheese Falcons secondary in Week 5, Davis is a viable flex option.

I watched the game winning bomb live and after the play the announcers said it was probably the best pass of Wilson's young career.

That was a really big confidence building game for him. Huge deal.

Trying to trade for him in FF.

The Jets did a poor job (most of the game and season) of using other weapons for what they're good at. In the fourth when Cole and Crowder were doing exactly what you'd expect, they looked best I've seen this year.

Do that, add Kroft and hold off on Elijah just one week and I bet they improve a lot.

How many slot WRs can one team have? And asking them to be open wide and QB to hit them when they play small...it doesn't work. Corey has to save the day with each catch and it's too much. 

I know Mims stunk in camp and career but if they had him taking up a corner wide and these guys taking turns doing what they do in the slot...it would work. 

 
Corey Davis caught 4-of-7 targets for 45 yards in Week 5 against the Falcons.

The seven targets were a team high. Davis got 28 of his yards and two of his catches on the Jets' final drive of the game. The volume has been there for Davis, who has 24 targets over the last three weeks, but the Jets offense has been highly inefficient with pass heavy game scripts. Davis will take a 20/302/3 line into the Jets' Week 6 bye.

Corey Davis (hip) was a surprise "limited" on Thursday's injury report.

Davis was already on the fringes of fantasy this week with Mike White at quarterback, and this ailment popping up on Thursday can't help. We'll see what the Friday injury report brings. Davis, already WR47 in RotoPat's rankings for the week, hasn't gone over 50 yards since Week 4 and will be a tough start this week if healthy.

Jets listed WR Corey Davis (hip) doubtful for Week 8 against the Bengals.

Davis appears to have picked up his injury in practice, making him very unlikely to play Sunday. Davis won't be missing a barn burner. The Mike White led Jets are likely to struggle mightily to move the ball against the Bengals, particularly if they don't have Davis. The fifth-year wide receiver has been the engine of the Jets' offense, posting a YPRR of 1.88, which is extremely impressive considering he's playing with Zach Wilson. Davis' absence should open more routes for Elijah Moore, Keelan Cole and Denzel Mims.

Jets coach Robert Saleh said Corey Davis (hip) has a chance to suit up Thursday against the Colts. 

Davis picked up the hip injury during practice last week. The timing of the injury would suggest he faces an uphill battle to return on a short week, but Saleh at least offers some optimism. Davis would be worth flex consideration in a good matchup with the Colts after Mike White surprisingly got the offense moving on Sunday.

The Jets have a short turnaround this week as their matchup with the Colts comes on Thursday. Davis was always likely to be sidelined for at least another week because of this. Robert Saleh said Davis had a chance to play this week but he has yet to practice meaning there's no real chance he suits up. He'll be eying a Week 10 return alongside Zach Wilson. With Davis out, Jamison Crowder projects to lead the New York receivers in targets. He saw nine targets last week and should be considered a WR3/4 in PPR leagues.

Jets coach Robert Saleh said Corey Davis (hip) is expected to play in Week 10 against the Bills. 

Davis has been sidelined since Week 7 due to the hip issue. In his absence, Jamison Crowder and Elijah Moore have both seen upticks in targets. Over their past two games, the two have seen 16 and 14 targets respectively. With Davis back, both will see their volume take a slight downturn with Moore likely to leave the field on two-receiver sets. Against a daunting Buffalo defense, Davis will rank as a risky WR4 with Crowder and Moore shuffling in behind him.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Corey Davis (hip) will play in Week 10 against the Bills. 

Davis has missed the Jets' past two games with a lingering hip issue. He was able to practice enough this week to suit up against Buffalo's shutdown secondary. His downfield prowess doesn't fit QB Mike White's penchant for checking down, limiting Davis' fantasy floor in a difficult matchup. He should be treated as a low-end WR3 in Week 10.

Corey Davis (groin) was limited in Wednesday's practice. 

The Athletic's Connor Hughes reports that Davis stretched out to catch a high pass from Zach Wilson during individual drills which appeared to cause the injury or exacerbate an existing issue. Davis threw his helmet to the ground after the play, clearly knowing that something was wrong. His status will need to be monitored throughout the week but it doesn't look great for him as of Wednesday. If he misses his Week 12 matchup with the Texans, Elijah Moore and Jamison Crowder would be in line for larger roles. Still, with Zach Wilson back under center, neither player could be trusted for more than WR4 numbers.
