Agree in that Sutton really seems to be the clear WR1 -- will remain to be seen how Sanders comes back from an Achilles but he might not be 100% through camp, and how Noah Fant might siphon targets. Not sure DaeSean Hamilton or Tim Patrick are threats to volume though using Lindsay more in the passing game may take away additional volume.Ilov80s said:I’m surprised his adp is pretty reasonable for redraft. I expected him to have more buzz- but maybe that will come in a month.
Agree. I wanted to give him more when I projected 60/960/7, but I would just be going against my own math. If his catch % takes a big leap, I think my numbers could be off by a decent margin.I think Sutton's perceived value is low because people expected more after Thomas got dealt. I just don't think he was ready to be the #1 and explode last year. I didn't expect him to. He was actually more productive as a rookie than I expected.
I seem to recall quite a few deep ball pass interference penalties that hurt him and a few plays where his foot was just out of bounds after he brought the ball in. Every WR has a play like that here and there, he just seemed more snake-bitten than usual. I'm high on him this year with Flacco or Lock. I think he hits 1K yards but not sure the Denver offense will rack up enough points to get beyond 6-7 TDs.
Receiver Courtland Sutton’s dud of an opening practice feels like a month ago. He has rebounded to be mostly steady. Without Emmanuel Sanders (Achilles tendon) and DaeSean Hamilton (hamstring), Sutton is taking first- and second-team snaps. Quarterback Joe Flacco said that method benefits Sutton. “He’s a guy that learns with a lot of reps and once he gets those reps, he never makes the same mistakes again and he has a really good feel for how to do things,” Flacco said. “That’s really the bottom line with him. You’ve just got to get him out there, get him the reps and let him build his confidence from there.”
He's a talent for surr but the situation he finds himself in limits his upside imo. The reason I traded out of a lot of drafts last year and didn't draft him.I like his upside.
He has the talent, but I agree - with injuries to the other WRs, he could see a lot more coverage. He's a talent for surr but the situation he finds himself in limits his upside imo. The reason I traded out of a lot of drafts last year and didn't draft him.
You have more faith in Flacco then I do. Sutton could be the type of WR that makes it easier for his QB though. So I'm not shutting the door on that possibility. He has the talent, but I agree - with injuries to the other WRs, he could see a lot more coverage.
that said, I think Flacco won’t hesitate to throw him jump balls. Should see a ton of targets.
When Sanders comes back things should open up a bit for him too.
I have faith that Flacco will be chucking it up a lot & isn’t as timid about throwing into coverage if he thinks his WR can go up & get it:You have more faith in Flacco then I do. Courtland Sutton with back-to-back leaping toe-tapping touchdown catches on the sideline of the end zone from Drew Lock.
Sure, it's a fluff piece from a Denver guy, but when you get that kind of praise from a guy like Reggie Wayne, I take notice. I would write it off if they were from the same state, went to the same college, or had some connection, but I can't find any. The closest connection may be Peyton Manning going to end his career in Denver.
I can't either -- high on this guy given the talent he's flashing, but with Sanders healthy, I think the two end up with similar statlines (in the neighborhood of 50/800/5) with both of them limiting each others' upside.Redraft projection thoughts for him? #1 guy on his team? I can’t figure out Denver this year.
Couple thoughts on this...I can't either -- high on this guy given the talent he's flashing, but with Sanders healthy, I think the two end up with similar statlines (in the neighborhood of 50/800/5) with both of them limiting each others' upside.
Will likely be using him as a matchup-based flex, and between the two of them, definitely prefer Sutton if only because Sanders has been so injury-bitten through his career.
I would be disappointed in only 6 tds. He had 4 last year with only half of a season of startingI liked what I saw in the preseason but it was a super small sample. I think he has a chance to be Denver's #1 this year. I grabbed him in all my redrafts. Could have a 1000-6 type season......
I could see 8 too just not sure how long it's going to take for him to establish himself as the man in Denver.I would be disappointed in only 6 tds. He had 4 last year with only half of a season of starting
Courtland Sutton caught 7-of-8 targets for 120 yards in Week 1 against the Raiders.
Sutton looked like Joe Flacco’s go-to option, out-targeting Emmanuel Sanders (7) and DaeSean Hamilton (4). His big play skills were on full display with Flacco, who hit Sutton on multiple 20-plus yard gains. After a nondescript rookie year, Sutton is set up for a Year 2 breakout. He'll have a tougher test in Week 2 with a matchup against Chicago's secondary.

Rypien is the starter next year. And Drew Lock isn't that QB. Flacco might be gone after this year and then the Drew Lock era begins. Holds Sutton's ceiling down a bit.
Still it was a nice start to the season for Denver's new #1 WR.
Own him and was pleasantly pleased by his usage and production. Hopefully this write up is dead wrong.Redraft PPR:
At best, an end of bench guy. Not much to like IMO for 2019:
1) Run first team with solid defense
2) "Upgraded" to Joe Flacco (Imagine that being your sales pitch for a player in 2019)
3) Dealing with new QB. Said QB many many many years away from prime.
4) Low catch %. .
5) If Flacco is as bad as he's been the last several years and Broncos aren't in playoff contention, likely looking at another QB by season's end.
6) IMO He's the type of player you can easily find on the waiver wire every week. I don't see big every week/seasonal upside. I'd rather roster a handcuff for RB with some upside.
7) Flacco's Y/A has been just atrocious for years and years. That's suddenly going to change in his mid 30s?? And that's going to benefit a WR like Sutton????
8 ) Lazy Michael Floyd-esque route runner
I don't even see a lot of upside even if Sanders goes down TBH![]()
Dude is BI-IG. Takes 2 guys (at least) on every play to bring him down.Faust said:

I grabbed him in the 12th this season and will sit him vs the Bears....but then he goes into the lineup.Got him in the 9th. Started him this week. I'm pleased. Might bench him against the Bears but I like where this is going.
Courtland Sutton hauled in four grabs for 40 yards on seven targets Sunday in Denver’s Week 2 loss to Chicago.
He vanished for a large portion of Sunday's game, coming up empty on his lone first-half target. Sutton's disappearance was a stark contrast from a week earlier, when he dusted the Raiders for 120 yards on seven catches. The second-year receiver made up for a lost time with a big fourth quarter, notching all of his catches during that period. Many of his catches were of the do-or-die variety including a clutch reception on fourth-and-10 to keep Denver's comeback hopes alive. The Bears presented a tough matchup for Sutton, though his next opponent—the Packers in Week 3—could prove just as difficult.
