WR D.J. Moore, CHI (2 Viewers)

I think it is important to understand that that CB tonight was severely overmatched. Other Corners will not gamble like Forbes did which allowed the stupid number of after the catch yards.

Still, DJ is a solid bet for 10-15 targets a week and he's been turning that into 100 yards easily. TDs are coming as well now. Things are looking up.
I think he will have 200 yards every game but you are right probably not 3 TDs ;)

The lack of target competition is huge. Kmet can make some plays but is not a focal point of the offense. After that it's Mooney and no one else. I'd think Moore is a strong WR1 ROS.

This is promising for DJ Moore this year, but let's not get carried away and assume he will get 10-15 targets, tons of yards, and multiple TDs each week. Enjoy the high. The arrow is pointing up over the last two weeks, and he's always had the talent, but he's still at the mercy of one of the worst starting QBs in the league.

Watching Fields throw so well as opposed to running every chance like last season is very promising for DJ Moore to finish Top 3 WR

Fields is fine. I'd be more worried about the OC and head coach.

The schedule lines up very nicely up through their BYE. Fantasy playoff schedule on paper at least gets a bit tougher though and maybe a return to what we saw the first few weeks.

What do you mean first few weeks? He’s only had 1 bad game and that was week 1 with a 2/25 stat line. Since then he’s gone over 100 yards 3 times and in the game he was under 100 he scored a TD. STUD!!!!

Looks like you are right, appears I was incorrectly conflating the Bears lack of success with his fantasy success. Forgot he had the TD against the Chiefs as well.

Yeah, he was WR17 in ppr ppg coming into Thursday. He is probably top 3 now.

Is everyone going to keep rolling with DJ or is it best to try and move him?

I’m reluctant to let him go but I reckon I could get Pacheco or Swift for him.

4 of the 5 games he’s played in this year have given us solid production. He’s had 1 stinker and that’s it. No way would I let him go for either of those guys

What do we think of DJ Moore with Fields out?
I know nothing about the Bears backup QB
DJ Moore's NFL QB's through the years

Cam Newton - 21 games
Sam Darnold - 17 games
Teddy Bridgewater - 15 games
Kyle Allen - 13 games
PJ Walker - 7 games
Justin Fields - 6 games
Baker Mayfield - 6 games
Will Grier - 2 games
Taylor Heinicke - 1 game

DJ Moore showed he can produce with garbage. DJ Moore had only 2 targets/1 catch with Fields through 35 minutes of week 6. When Bagent entered, Moore had 6 targets/4 catches in only 23 minutes. Rookies tend to rely on their studs, so I expect Bagent to target Moore often, as long as he can remain upright.

New injury popped up. Ankle. Horrible time to have one. Was already worried about the Cleveland defense.

I think he first hurt his ankle at the end of the game before the bye vs the Vikings on that game winning drive, and re-tweaked it again on Sunday.

Interesting offseason for DJ. On one hand, the status quo was best because he had a heck of a season with Fields and no receiving help. That was unrealistic though. Allen is a good addition because he's old, has a short life. But it could be bad if they also take a WR top 10 and now we have went from 1 to 2 major new target competitors. Though I think losing Fields and surely getting Williams has to be a positive. Fields showed he could support Moore but adding a 2nd or 3rd major target is probably beyond what Fields can manage. That said, a rookie QB is worrisome.

Very tough situation to parse out.

I’d say it’s probably one of the best possible scenarios Moore owners could have hoped for. Worst case was they held onto Fields, moved down and drafted a guy like MHJr. Keenan is older and much more of a complement than a direct threat IMO. Improves the overall offense greatly, and greatly lowers the probability (although doesn’t eliminate it) that Chicago takes a guy like Nabers or Odunze at 8. They’d be better served going OT or defense at 8 IMO, grab a WR in the 2nd instead but we’ll have to see.

I struggle with him.

They obviously added a lot of competition with Keenan and Rome. He won't be the only mouth to feed this year.

However...

He finished as WR6 in 0.5 PPR--He did all of his damage on 136 targets last season. Chicago finished 28th in passing attempts/game.

I honestly think a rookie Williams>Any version of Justin Fields as a passer. I assume the entire pie grows. The defense has to respect more than just Moore (see what I did there)?! I think the targets will be there.

Seeing him ranked most places WR15-WR17. That just feels too low.

Rome is a rookie. I suspect he'll take a little time.

I think with Keenan Allen being 32, missing 4 games last year and 7 games the year before--there's an easy enough path to DJ Moore keeping the targets he needs to give you a top 10 WR finish.

Draft at cost or slightly above cost, profit.

I’ve been a huge DJ fan since forever .. super excited for this season. I believe he finishes as the clear WR1 for the Bears, and is a fantasy top 12 WR.

Really love what the Bears are doing for Caleb (Shane Walden? Not so sure) . But I can’t think of a better WR room a top rookie QB could walk into than this one. Not a single “diva” WR in the room, all quiet, hardworking humble guys - that also happen to be incredible at catching the football.

Im a Lions fan, so eff those guys obviously - but def looking forward to the fantasy fun that offense should produce in the coming years.

Awesome post! I also love DJ and think he has had just about the worst luck ever when it comes to QB's, but has still found a way to shine. Just look at this list of garbage he's had throwing to him:
Cam Newton - 21 games
Sam Darnold - 17 games
Teddy Bridgewater - 14 games
Justin Fields - 13 games
Kyle Allen - 12 games
PJ Walker - 7 games
Baker Mayfield - 6 games
Tyson Bagent - 4 games
Will Grier - 2 games
Taylor Heinicke - 1 game
In spite of his QB's, he's averaged 1154 total yards /5 TDS thru 6 seasons. Now he gets a rookie QB, who are notorious as crappy fantasy QB's. Poor guy just can't catch a break!

Then you add in Keenan Allen, one of the leagues best possession receivers of the last decade (and yeah, one helluva chill dude). If he stays healthy, there's no way DJ Moore is going to sniff WR1 status. None, nada. If Allen plays in 13+ games, DJ Moore will not finish in the top 20. Fun fact - the only active WR with more catches than Keenan Allen is DeAndre Hopkins.

Next, we throw in rookie WR Rome Odunze. He is a physical specimen at 6'3" and 215 lbs and was selected as the 9th overall pick in the 2024 draft. For the old-timers, as Glenn Close said in Fatal Attraction, "I won't be ignored".

I think DJ's fantasy season is totally dependent on Keenan Allen's health.

Warren Sharp
DJ Moore was incredible last year

only player with more 25+ yard catches was Tyreek

21 - Tyreek
16 - DJ Moore, Brandon Aiyuk
15 - Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown

Moore had career highs in catches, yards & TDs despite playing in the lackluster CHI offense

probably a bad idea to tout a guy right before draft season, but DJ Moore imo is the best floor receiver with a stratosphere upside in 2024 dependent on caleb's growth. i honestly was not a fan in Carolina and doubted him at the start of the season last year, but drafted him based on projections as a WR2. now that i've seen his skills and looking at the last five year stats, this guy is a bona fide stud in real life football. only thing keeping him out of perenial top 10 convo in fantasy is TD's. unfortunately I don't think that changes much this year, I'd expect Keenan Allen to be a better redzone target.

Rankings below for WR+TEs only, that list of QB's though... Caleb absolutely cannot be worse than this list in fantasy context... right? right?

Anyone thinking of benching this guy week 1 against Tennessee? Sneed is a shadow corner and he absolutely locked people down last year including Moore for 1 catch and 7 yards I believe. Best game anyone had against him was D Adams like 6-66.

I am thinking I am going Pickens over him.

Thinking about benching him for Whittington. Funky scoring league. Gotta hit milestones in yards, and no PPR.

What's Indy's pass defense like? Caleb on the road seems dicey at this point.
