WR Deebo Samuel, WAS (1 Viewer)

Josh Reynolds available?
He is not. Also he plays for Detroit. JK but Agholor, DeAndre Carter, Zaccheus, these are other options. Jauan Jennings has been getting snaps and red zone looks and is likely the number 2 WR with Deebo out.

I could pick up DJAX but don't know if I have the balls for that. Laquon Treadwell, Gabe Davis. This is an FBG playoff team of mine in the 4 seed semifinal vs the 1 seed. But am just totally done at WR2 with Adams on bye. At this very moment I have Zay Jones in my lineup. But Jennings may get there.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's "hoping" Deebo Samuel (groin) can play Week 14 against the Bengals.

Big same, Kyle, Deebo drafters said. Samuel missed the team's Week 13 loss to the Seahawks with a groin injury, one of several soft tissue injuries that have plagued Samuel since the start of the 2020 season. Unless he's able to get in a limited practice on Thursday or Friday, Samuel will have little chance of suiting up against Cincinnati. The Niners offense isn't nearly as potent without their centerpiece, though Samuel's absence should continue to open up targets for George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk. Kittle commanded a 40 percent target share against Seattle with Deebo sidelined.

Deebo Samuel (groin) worked out on the side during the media portion of Thursday's practice.

That'll likely go down as a second DNP, though it's potentially a limited tag depending on what happens behind closed doors. The 49ers will give Deebo every chance they can to get him back on the field, so even at this point he's probably closer to questionable than doubtful. But back-to-back DNPs is not a start that should make fantasy managers optimistic about Samuel coming back this weekend against the Bengals.

Deebo Samuel (groin) was officially listed as "DNP" for Thursday's practice.

Samuel generated a little hope when it was reported he was working off to the side on Thursday, but it was not enough to bring home a "limited" tag. Especially with Elijah Mitchell (knee, concussion) looking doubtful, Samuel could probably suit up this week without practicing, but teams rarely take that course of action. Fantasy managers should consider Samuel doubtful until we get some concrete news to change that assessment. Don't hold your breath.

Deebo Samuel (groin) is listed as questionable for Week 14 against the Bengals.

Samuel looked very unlikely to play earlier in the week but appeared to make some progress on Friday, fully participating in the 49ers half-speed practice. If Samuel plays it's clear that he will be at less than 100%, and he could be on a snap count. He would still make for an interesting FLEX option as a bet on talent. Brandon Aiyuk still looks like a WR2/3 but becomes a bit riskier. All-world tight end George Kittle is still an elite play.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Deebo Samuel (questionable, core) "has a chance to play" in Week 14 against the Bengals.

Samuel got in a full practice to close out the week, though it came during a walkthrough session. There were also reports he worked off to the side during the media portion of Thursday's practice. Both are good signs for Samuel's Week 14 status.  Samuel still looks like a game-time decision and could be put on a snap count, making him a risky FLEX option if he plays.

With a late start I'm getting nervous about him, especially because due to byes and injuries my only other option is Shenault at 1pm.  Any chance we know for sure by then?

I agree.  But Shanahan has shown that he don't care about that.  Deebo, while good, is as fragile as they come.  Not sure why you would rush him back and then STILL use him as a running back.

I know I'm not an NFL Coach, but here's an idea to chew on:  How about you let your RBs play running back and your WR focus on being Wide Receivers?  It's bad enough Deebo gets injured all the time playing the WR role.  Subjecting him to the punishment of a RB is pure folly, IMO.

Also, I'm a Wilson owner so I have a vested interested in Shanahan listening to my advice.  ;)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Deebo Samuel (questionable, core) will return for Week 14 vs. the Bengals.

Samuel got in only one limited practice this week, but he will return to the 49ers' receiver corps and backfield after missing just one game. Samuel was injured on a carry two weeks ago when he tried to stop his own momentum in the red zone, but the 49ers figure to go right back to his multi-dimensional usage with Elijah Mitchell (concussion) on the shelf. Perhaps Samuel will have his snaps dialed back ever so slightly, but he can be trusted as a WR1. His return dings Brandon Aiyuk's WR2 outlook and will lower George Kittle's targets floor after Kittle's Week 13 outburst in Samuel's absence.

Gonna guess there was a snap count issue as well.. He was moving around a little awkward

Or maybe he just wasn't 100 percent, and the 49ers were missing their leading rusher. Team wise the 49ers rushed for a collective 100 yards, with Samuel rushing for 37 of them. On the road in CIN. Kittle was going to get the the bulk of targets due to Mitchell not available, and Shanahan's offense is more about speed than pure power. Granted I didn't watch the game because it wasn't available in my local market, but Shanhan's offense is about how he schemes it with what he has with the quarterback that he has. It was obvious from the start that this game depended on Kittle, and Kittle is where the profit bore.

It's like be lucky if you start a 49er WR1, because when you do you roll the dice when Garopollo is the quarterback, and he doesn't create the WR1, the scheme does.

The scheme giveth, the scheme takes away.

WELCOME TO KYLE SHANAHAN WITH A 49ER FRONT OFFICE.

Well I feel confident with aiyuk whenever deebo is out there now as they scheme deebo like Patterson these days

It's a smart play, if anything having Samuel at RB can only create more opportunities for Aiyuk. In fact it might increase Aiyuk given the situation.

The 49er offense is all about big plays, chunk plays. Big, meaty chunks. They just need a quarterback whose targets don't bail him out more, and whose coach has to handcuff his own quarterback because one interception on a road game like today would have created a loss. That's how tenuous the 49er passing offense is, where one mistake without a ground game can cost them even more, yet at the same time create big time plays simply because Shanahan has to scheme his own luck.

It is also genius because they can consolidate three guys to their strengths and.focus on only those three, while not sending all three down the field at the same.time. It's interesting development, kinda reduced deebo ppr value but increased standard

It's like "where can Deebo be most effective" and Shanahan uses him as a Swiss Army Knife in his scheme. But, there are caveats to this. Like losing Deebo for a crucial game because he RG3'd him two games prior when he really needed him in a division game against Seattle.

You can platoon running backs, but you can't platoon WRs. How the hell Shanahan runs out of both throughout a season is only because he doesn't have a quarterback. Of course a big reason why is that Parag Marathe still thinks he can model the 49ers like the New England Patriots, without say Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Jed York firing head coaches because all the tech bros in Silicon Valley still see him as an Ohio hayseed who still can't get Zuckerberg to join him in his booth.

The Mercury News's Cam Inman reports Deebo Samuel (groin) appeared to be a full participant in practice Wednesday.

Samuel has been at best a limited participant in practice since suffering the groin injury the forced him to miss a game. He was also dealing with a shin injury that limited his practice reps before that. Getting up to a full practice this early in the week is a good sign that Samuel is done dealing with the groin issue. He has been playing a mix of running back and receiver in recent weeks, bottoming out at one catch in Week 14. A rushing score saved his otherwise weak fantasy outing last week. The shift has made him a more volatile fantasy option but managers can keep him in their lineups as a WR2.

After an amazing start to the season I am not sure what to expect going forward. I wish Kyle would just let him play receiver and throw in a couple sweeps here and there. With the running back room as injured as they are should we expect Deebo in the backfield the majority of the time versus Atlanta?

For those of you who haven’t followed Shanny for the last few seasons in SF, he isn’t an offensive mastermind. He’s possibly the most predictive play caller in the NFL. Outside of one good season, he’s been mediocre at best.

With that said, I do think this is a get right spot for Deebo at WR, even Kyle can’t botch this one.

Deebo Samuel caught 9-of-11 targets for 159 yards in the 49ers' Week 16 loss to the Titans, adding five carries for 32 additional yards.

Well Samuel finally "regressed" in the rushing touchdown department, getting held out of the end zone on the ground for the first time in six games. The flipside was that he finally progressed as a receiver, reverting to his big-play, compiling ways from the first half of the season. The double-digit target performance was his first since Week 7, with the 100-yard game through the air his first since Week 8. The highlight was a fourth quarter, 56-yard catch-and-run where Samuel roasted Kristian Fulton. He did come down hard at the end of the play, taking several minutes to regain his breath. That is our only concern with Samuel's second-half-of-the-season usage, as coach Kyle Shanahan is putting him in position to get hit. Samuel is taking far more contact than the average wideout. It seems like it will be difficult for him to hold up, but he mostly has so far, missing only one contest. Samuel will remain an all-purpose fantasy X factor for Week 17 against the rebuilding Texans.

Worst mistake I made this year was go all in on Aiyuk and never on Deebo. Never expected 2x production from last year, and forgot about how good he was in 2019. Deebo somehow stayed healthy too, which is good on him for doing so. He wants to get paid. Basically a glorified contract year for him.

The injury history makes me wonder if he's a sell high at this point.  I think if I could get somebody like DK or add a little to get Lamb, I would do it.

Wouldn't do either of them straight up for deebo right now.   Dk - what changes are happening on that offense? Is Wilson staying? Lamb - same when Moore goes, who runs the show now?

Deebo is safer because he runs for a floor, and he's already played well in a game with Lance.

Edit - not to mention, Deebo is a td waiting to happen every time he touches the ball.  Players get hurt all the time in the NFL, give me the guy who maximizes his chances when he's healthy.

On the positive side, its awesome that we're talking about Deebo as being in the same class as DK and Lamb.  That's a fantastic value increase in a short period.

Tyshun Samuel caught 4-of-7 targets for 72 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers' NFC Championship loss to the Rams, rushing seven times for 26 yards.

It was Samuel's seventh straight game with double-digit touches, as he almost single-handedly dragged this 49ers team to a near-Super Bowl berth. Samuel's touchdown was a 44-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter that tied the game 7-7. He was the engine of the San Francisco offense all season long and finished the year as fantasy's overall WR2 behind Cooper Kupp. Samuel totaled 16 touchdowns on the year and looks like the centerpiece of San Francisco's offense moving into the offseason. He has one year left on his rookie deal and is an obvious candidate for an extension this spring. Samuel has a real case to be compensated as the league's highest-paid wideout at more than $25 million per year. He just turned 26 two weeks back.

Gotta stop using him at rb though. Not going to hold up to the punishment he absorbed the second half of the season.
I don’t think you take it away completely as he is so dynamic, but maybe shift to 1-3 instead of 5-8.
