WR Deebo Samuel, WAS (3 Viewers)

Any indication from camp or preseason on his rushing usage? I know the rumors of him not wanting that role exist but never saw confirmation of that. change in OC might also result in him not being used as much in the run game. Our league has weird WR carry bonuses and make it super desirable. Just not convinced he will see 5 carries a game like end of last season

With a healthy RB corps I don't think we will see Deebo get carries like last season, maybe 1 or 2 a game, but he has no issue with running the ball or the wideback role, as he says in this clip:

With Kittle likely out week 1 @ Chicago. Deebos numbers last season with/without Kittle in the lineup:

Deebo Samuel w/ George Kittle last year (13 gms):
• 7.1 TGT/G
• 4.7 REC/G
• 82.8 YDS/G

Deebo Samuel w/o George Kittle last year (3 gms):
• 9.7 TGT/G
• 5.3 REC/G
• 109.7 YDS/G

This of course doesn't mean much since there's a different QB, but Deebo doesn't suffer production wise without Kittle

Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel rushed eight times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 1 loss to the Bears, adding two receptions for 14 additional yards.

Samuel also lost a red zone fumble. The rushing touchdown was the 12th of Samuel's career, and ninth since last season. With Elijah Mitchell departing early with a knee injury, Samuel led the Niners in rushing for most of the afternoon before Trey Lance passed him late. Mitchell's direct backup Jeff Wilson could muster only 9/22 on the ground. The lack of receiving production will likely give one pause, but huge chunks of the game were played in a driving rainstorm, while the entire affair featured on a water-logged field. Samuel also commanded eight targets. It was hard to make any judgments about the Niners' passing attack. Should Mitchell miss Week 2 — and his quick rule out does not bode well — Samuel will be the 49ers' de facto lead rusher even if Wilson leads in carries. Samuel will continue to get the highest-value touches. That keeps him locked in as a WR1 for a date with the Seahawks.

Deebo Samuel caught 5-of-8 targets for 73 yards in San Francisco's Week 3 loss to Denver, adding five carries for six yards.

Deebo was open on wheel routes twice early in the game, once with his quarterback ignoring him, and another time with his quarterback hanging up the ball so long that it likely cost him at least 20 extra receiving yards. Samuel also took a pounding in the middle of the field in the second quarter when he was stood up by the defense and pushed around in a pile by both sides -- he briefly left the game over this. Samuel's last target was a ball thrown wildly behind him by Garoppolo. He's still a lock-and-load WR2 vs. the Rams in Week 4, but he'll need more from his quarterback to play up to his standard.

Deebo Samuel caught 6-of-7 targets for 115 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers' Week 4 win over the Rams.

Samuel only rushed two times for two yards, as Jeff Wilson did all of the heavy lifting as a runner with 18/74/1 on the ground. Samuel, however, dunked on the Rams with a 57-yard catch-and-run touchdown on a slant in the second quarter. He almost did it again from 58 yards out in the second half, going for just 29 yards on a 3rd-and-13 call. It was Samuel's first 100-yard game of the season and his first touchdown as a receiver. He also led the team with his seven targets. Samuel will be an easy WR1 for Week 5 against the Panthers.

Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel caught 7-of-10 targets for 79 yards, adding two carries for 11 yards in the 49ers' Week 6 loss to the Falcons.

Samuel looked ridiculously dynamic on multiple receptions, showing his usual mix of yards after catch explosion and tackle-breaking. However, both of the 49ers' TDs went to Brandon Aiyuk. Samuel got medical attention on the sideline late in the game, but was back in the lineup for the 49ers' final drive, recording a 21-yard reception on the final play of the game. Samuel will be a strong play against the Chiefs in Week 7, as a bet on passing volume.

Thoughts on Deebo this year so far?

Last year a complete stud. This year not so much?? He had Garoppolo all last year,,,,

Certainly not setting the fantasy world on fire...... but..... consistent in that he gets double digits fantasy points each week.

He has just 2 Td's, only 1 game over 100 yards receiving, and used to be a dual threat in running and receiving, and in the last 3 weeks he has just rushed the ball twice each game.

I think Deebo 2021 show-cased his ceiling when he needed - not only - to pick up the slack for an under-performing Aiyuk, but also turned out to be their most explosive RB... especially down the stretch.

Deebo 2022... seems like Aiyuk got his mojo back and now with CMC arriving... both (IMO) threaten Deebo's fantasy value, but the 49ers look much stronger now as a unit.

I feel like he's overrated each week. He just doesn't get the meaningful touches like he did last year, and with CMC in town now he will be utilized even less........his value is mostly tied to guys around him going down to injury.

I’m trying to sell Deebo while I can for Pittman.

I think he’s going to get his receptions back and his value is too gold. Rising tides lift all boats…but I’m also painfully optimistic

my WR1 at the 2/3 turn in my long time redraft league….

I mean, signing CMC has to lift the offense overall, and Deebo along with it, right? Right?!?!?!!!?????

Lift the offense? For sure.

Lift Deebo? Doubtful. This means fewer touches for Deebo, particularly on the ground.

Then again, hopefully Prince Kyle will be smarter with his use of CMC than the Panthers were. CMC can’t handle 20-25 touches per game for a full season; he’s simply too fragile.

I have Deebo in dynasty and have hated the ground pounding he's taken the past couple years. They more he can get into open space and let someone else take the pounding the better.
The 49ers are going to get him the ball, he's too good. CMC, Deebo and Kittle are going to see more space than any of them have ever seen.
Jimmy G is the beneficiary of all of it.

Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel caught 5-of-7 targets for 42 yards in the 49ers' Week 7 loss to the Chiefs, adding one rush for two yards.

Samuel's rushing opportunities had been fading for much of the past month. He had just six carries over the team's past three outings, but had seen at least nine targets in each of his past two games. Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle were the primary beneficiaries of the Niners chasing points against the Chiefs in the second half. Cameras showed Deebo seemingly dismayed on the sideline while his team was humiliated at home by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The addition of Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers offense could cap Samuel's touches going forward and make him a slightly more volatile fantasy option. Still, he's a must-start in Week 8 against the Rams, the team he ripped in Week 4 for 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

They seriously need to get him the ball. Kittle and Aiyuk are benefitting quite a bit as to how much is around deebo limiting his YAC.

I don’t care about the Carries. Just get this guy the ball

Deebo Samuel suffered a hamstring injury in the Week 7 loss to the Chiefs and is considered "day to day."

Samuel played his normal allotment of snaps (86%) against Kansas City but came out of the loss ailing. Coach Kyle Shanahan is typically pretty straightforward with his injury outlooks, so we'll take him at his word for now. Expect Samuel to be either DNP or limited Wednesday on the practice report. It is worth noting, however, that the 49ers have a Week 9 bye after their upcoming Week 8 date with the Rams.

Deebo Samuel (hamstring) did not practice Thursday.

After calling him "day-to-day" following Week 7's output of seven targets and a rush for 44 total yards, Samuel has not practiced on either of the first two days of the week. This is trending towards a questionable tag at best, and Samuel's status for Week 8 is very much in doubt right now. Friday will tell the final tale, but managers relying on Samuel should be making contingency plans.

Deebo Samuel (hamstring) will not play in Week 8 against the Rams.

"Day-to-day" with the hamstring injury at the start of the week, Deebo didn't practice all week. The 49ers will go on bye for Week 9 so he'll get an extra week of rest. Christian McCaffrey should draw more targets in his second week with the 49ers, and Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle could also see more offensive participation with Deebo out.

Deebo Samuel (hamstring) practiced on Monday.

Samuel missed the 49ers' Week 8 matchup with the Rams but has had an extra week to recover with the Niners on bye in Week 9. With the team now back at practice. Samuel being spotted on the field Monday is a good first step in him being ready for this week's game against the Chargers. Samuel is an obvious must-start every week, but the versatile receiver has frustrated fantasy managers at times, finishing as a top-24 receiver in PPR leagues just twice in seven games.

Deebo Samuel caught 2-of-6 targets for 24 yards in the 49ers' Week 10 win over the Chargers, adding four carries for 27 yards.

Deebo gave way to Brandon Aiyuk for most of the night through the air and wasn't called on as a rusher as frequently with Christian McCaffrey now in town and Elijah Mitchell back in action. These down games are sadly part of the package for the league's most dynamic chess piece, particularly considering Kyle Shanahan's new toys on offense. Consider Deebo a weekly low volume, upside WR3 moving forward.

I somewhat saw this coming and was able to trade for evans so i didn't have to start deebo. I hung onto Deebo because i thought big contract and new qb next year we will see what happens but i kind of wish i traded him now. I think he's done.

Think they will all trade off games…besides kittle. Cmc operates that area of the field. I’m not sure how to feel honestly. They need to play against a competent offense

Yeah I think he’s pretty much useless now.
Fantasy Football perspective.
Absolute stud last year to now mostly irrelevant and unstartable.

Deebo Samuel caught 7-of-9 targets for 57 yards in the 49ers' Week 11 win over the Cardinals, adding three carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Deebo had actually rushed for negative two yards on his first two carries before ripping off a 39-yard rushing score to put the 49ers up 24-10 on the first possession of the second half. He would go on to make two more catches, coming out of the game after each one with cramping in his lower extremities, before sitting out the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter. The cramping is likely nothing to worry about considering the game was played in the altitude of Mexico City, which is higher than any stadium in the United States. Deebo remains a locked-in WR2 with weekly upside moving forward.

Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is questionable for San Francisco's Week 12 game against the Saints.

Samuel practiced thrice this week -- mostly limited -- and some 49ers beats believed he'd be taken off the report entirely today. Samuel has dealt with hamstring issues most of this season and has generally played through it when he's practiced. We'd tentatively believe he's on the optimistic side of questionable before hearing Kyle Shanahan speak on it.
