WR DeVante Parker, Retired (1 Viewer)

Yeah, this is a rough one. I think this is the kind of game Parker may have a tough time against two bona fide shutdown corners in Hayward and Verrett. With Bosa providing heat up the middle, if MIA's O-line falters could make it hard on Cutler who isn't exactly grace under pressure. But I can totally see Parker blowing over the top and taking that one pass for 50 yards and a score.

On the other side of the ball, Saints are a veritable sieve on defending the pass, with offenses regularly posting 300 yard receiving games against them through last year.  And they are playing without the one asset they do have in the secondary, Delvin Breaux. NO is a little bit stouter against the run (not great but not terrible, though they did totally break down against the Vikes last week) -- this may shift the game plan to attack them through the air a little more. Still - a lot of mouths to feed.

I think I may be convincing myself to give Parker a rest until next week, where he's likely to go hog wild against the Jets.
I think Verrett sits but I don't think that effects Parker all that much. Like I said, I think Parker is going to draw Hayward a majority of the time.

The thing is, Amendola has been ruled out and Hogan lined up in the slot on 41% of his snaps last week. NE's team total is 31 and the ou is 56, I feel like I have to attack that game. Yeah, I'm starting Hogan over Parker.

Leaning toward starting him as my flex in a 0.5 PPR over Corey Davis and B. Allen. I'm a little worried about the matchup with Hayward, but I'm treating this like I would any Week 1 decision: I drafted him to be my starter, and I'm not going to overthink match-ups until I have at least some new data to base my decision off of.

I don't see it mentioned that Parker had 2 of the best games of his short career the past 2 years vs the Chargers:  5 for 103 on 8 targets last year and 4 for 87 on 6 targets his rookie year. Looks like Hayward played last year but Verrett was out (I think)...the opposite was true in 2015 before Hayward came over from GB.

So similar situation w/ a guy in much better shape plus an upgrade at QB. I like him as a solid #2 WR on yardage alone, with decent TD potential.

Parker made another sick catch where he high-pointed the ball over the CBs head from behind him - I think it was Casey Heyward.  He made a similar play in the preseason.  Its only one game plus a preseason, but I have seen enough to feel strongly that if Parker stays healthy this year he is going to move into WR1 territory going forward.  Looks like he has developed some great ball skills, and clearly has chemistry with Cutler.  The physical gifts were always there, I think he just took a little longer than some others do to find himself in the NFL - but I think he is now found.

Good game, and he had another long catch that was bizarrely ruled a drop even after the Dolphins challenged the call and the replays clearly showed him taking two steps with the ball in his hands. With that, he would have been over 100yds for the day.

Some thoughts after watching the highlights.  Parker got whacked hard in the 2nd qtr and laid down for a few seconds then got right back up and went into the CB's face letting him know his feelings on that cheap hit.  That catch and fumble should have been a 20 yard catch and offensive fumble recovery.  The 2nd catch just humiliated Casey Heyward, who PFF grades as one of the top CB in the league and led the NFL in int last year.  Parker saved Cutler from an int on that play.  3rd catch was a tough one at the end of the play he got whacked in the middle but kept good ball control.  The 4th catch was a great route adjustment recognizing that Cutler had to scramble out of the pocket.  Parker actually completed his route.  But he made a fade up the field and what should have been a broken play was nicely created by Cutler and Parker.  The fade in the end zone was a nice play broken up by CB Williams of the Chargers.  But Cutler didn't throw it high enough.  If he did Parker would have scored because his feet stayed in bounds.  I expect this adjustment to be made.

Man Parker can ball.  Everything was on display here.  Explosiveness.  My ball mentality.  Tough slant catches in the middle.  Making busted plays with the QB that builds more trust.  Saving his QB from an int.  Goal line fade opportunity.  Down field strikes.  Against one of the top CB in the league he still put up 80+ yards.  There's a maturity on display here.  With the opportunity and the route tree the Dolphins are giving Parker based on week 1 he has the opportunity to be a WR1 this year.

Agree with much of what you said, and I'm definitely excited for him to bust out, but it does make me wonder ... he had one catch that should have been a Cutler INT and another that would have been a TD with a better throw. Do you think Cutler will hold him back this year? In case anyone's forgotten, he is, in fact, Jay Cutler.

The light finally went on. I am really excited for him. Great times ahead.

I don't think Cutler held back Marshall or Alshon.  Every throw wont be perfect.  The one that someone noted could have been picked off was risky, but he threw him that same pass in preseason with the same result.  Maybe its something they've worked on.  Both times he threw it high, and let Parker go up and get it over the CBs head.  Parker has a size advantage on a lot of CBs, similar to Marshall and Alshon, who both thrived with Cutler.  He is far from the game-manager type that he resembled in the first half yesterday.  He will take his chances and give his WR a chance to make plays.  That will backfire sometimes, but what it wont do is hold back his WR.  If anything, it should be the polar opposite.

I think Parker will burst on the scene as a WR1 this year.

Upset I didn't snag him in any redrafts.  Just sent out trade offers hoping someone bites.

Am I crazy to start him this week vs. the Jets over D. Thomas vs. a tough Bills D?
Not completely crazy although Thomas matches up against Gaines this week who he has a very clear height advantage over; similar to KBeninjamin last week. He's going to be able to box him out quite easily and I like his floor in PPR per usual.

I'd find a way to start both to be honest.

I gave up what was probably too much for him last week but I had to have him. Alshon and CJ. Redraft

Do we know if Parker is playing this week?
He's practicing today so I think so. I know the limited on Wednesday to DNP on Thursday was scary but I have to imagine MIA's injury reports are going to be wonky all year since they have to play 15 straight. I'm assuming he turned in a limited practice today and will play Sunday.

Yeah I wasn't sure if he had CJ locked down now or not.

That is a pretty high price to pay although may be worth it.

If it were CJ2K I think that's interesting with DJ out for awhile presumably, but not nearly as good as the deal with CJ Anderson in it.
Yeah, it was a lot but before last week as well. No byes remaining for Parker, but still probably overpaid. But I wanted him. Draft Elway early and we'll before the Cutler/Parker connection came out or I would've just drafted him

No. it's insane but flap is flap.

I am starting D Parker over D Thomas this week myself and hopefully long term. Tired of the lack of TD production out of Thomas. He's a fine receiver and will get you 5-7 receptions and 70 yards, but he doesn't thrill me. I'd rather roll with a new talent, and Cutler does have the arm to get it to him. Cutler looked conservative in his first game with the Dolphins, but the gun slinger in him is just aching to come out.

I found a way to start both by sitting Engram this week. My fear is the Broncos offense is coming into life now that Sieman has a year under his belt, and Thomas is due. Sieman(sic?) may not have the strongest arm, but hanging 40+ on the Cowboys is no small feat. I'd go insane if Thomas scores while he's on my bench.

Starting Parker in all three of my leagues. He showed he can get yardage on one of the best CBs in the league. He is about to feast.

I hope. A lot of people are voicing their concern about him squaring off against Morris Claiborne, who shadowed Cooper and held him to 2 receptions for 3 yards.

That's a real concern but I'm rolling with Parker.   I'm hoping his talent and Cutlers gunslinging will result in a handful of targets.

Just moved Dalvin Cook for him in a .5 PPR.  I have a lot of depth at RB and didn't want to deal with the Bradford situation.

Anderson and Alshon
I Love this post brah.. I mean, I'm pretty sure someone was attempting shade, in a few folks direction about Parker (older thread). I mean this is his 3rd Yr. We all heard "3rd Yr. WR's" breaking out. It sure don't appear too happen a lot. I'm kinda thinking ya Overpaid, but ya at least maximized points in WR slot, and opened a bn spot, no less. Worse yet, folks probably wanting too talk Trades? Think this Train is Fully loaded now, Folks..  Lets Enjoy the Ride..
