WR Diontae Johnson, CLE (1 Viewer)

Sounds like a 5th will do it.
I they sit tight he nets a 3rd round comp pick. Why move him for a 5th?
Comp picks are tricky though. They'd only get a 3rd if he signs a big contract elsewhere right? Not to mention the comp formula takes into account what other guys walk (And their contracts) + what signings Carolina makes correct?

So I don't see if being black and white a 3rd. It very well could be a lot less if they are active in FA and Johnson's deal is small-ish.

Just needs to be in the top 35%. 50% is 3.2 million, $860,000 is the median. That's Devin Duvenay or Josh Reynolds numbers.

I thought part of the process in figuring out comp picks was also based on the FA's that Carolina signs?

Either way it was Joe Person with The Athletic who referenced Carolina maybe getting a 5th.

Why would they do it? I can only guess they are not 100% sure the comp pick in 2026 will be a third and/or they want more draft pick ammo in 2025.

Only 3 guys merited 3rds this past draft, Diontae might be a 4th or 5th at the most. Plus the pick wouldn't be until 2026. Plus the Panthers have like $130MM in cap space next year, odds are they sign somebody to offset Diontae.

That was fast. I feel like Balt didn't need him but he can't hurt.

What's this do for Flowers now? 2 different types of guys but there's not a lot of targets to go around.

Where does this rank on teams that could have acquired him fantasy wise? I think he should eat underneath and intermediate routes with Lamar, and honestly challenge Flowers for a lot of looks. However that running game is so lethal....

Fantasy wise, I see it as a downgrade despite the better offense. Not sure Lamar throws it enough to support 2 WRs after Flowers, and Andrews is starting to get more involved than in the early part of the season.

Guess I can finally drop Bateman (he was terrible this past weekend anyway.)

Brutal landing spot for the rest of this year, hopefully Diontae signs somewhere else in 2025.

I don't see a scenario where either one of them is worth anything. And Bateman, Andrews, and Likely take a hit too.

At first I thought yuck. Then noticed Lamar is 5th in the league in passing yards. Ravens defensive secondary ain't want it used to be and they give up points. Kinda settling in that this isn't that bad. Wr3 value I suppose.

Is he worthless now?
You think his value went DOWN after this move???
Henry, Lamar, and Hill running it at a crazy and effective clip.

Andrews, Flowers, Bateman, Likely, Hill out of the backfield, and now Johnson.

Who is going to feel confident starting anyone but Henry and Lamar?
And that doesn't even factor in the need to develop chemistry with Lamar, which the other pass catchers already clearly have.

Ravens D is a write-off this season so this is a good move for them to strengthen the passing game.

Have to wait and see what chemistry can come between Lamar and Johnson.

Way down

Oh yeah. Much would have preferred the Texans or just stay in Carolina with Dalton back under center.

Ravens defense does suck and probably going to be some good blowup games for Diontae here and there but good luck predicting which ones just like with Likely/Andrews/Bateman
I'd have preferred he stayed in Carolina even with Young.

Really can't think of a worse spot. Diontae has always been volume needy and he just landed in arguably the most difficult position to pull that off.

I'm pretty close to viewing this as the day Diontae died in redraft.

Cutting him for sure on my one local 10/16 man team. Was my WR5, out of 5 but cutting him is a no brainer.

I feel stuck keeping him on my 12/20 sized national contest rosters. Feel like he's worthless in leagues you got to set a lineup but I'm about to get stuck in a multi-week holding pattern of seeing if acclimation helps him. My real line of thinking is those of us who hold him will look back at this and realize we'd have been better off if he had suffered a season ending injury and we just moved on.

Dynasty is of course a different subject.
