WR Dont'e Thornton, LV (11 Viewers)

Luv the 2025 Raiders draft. Lots of very intriuiging picks, including the two WRs. This dude has serious NFL deep theat potential. He catches the ball with his hands.

"The easy one, everyone always talks about Ashton [Jeanty], you talk about Jack [Bech], both of them look like ballers [and] have been awesome so far,” Crosby said on "The Rush" recently. “But Dont’e Thornton, the dude we drafted from Tennessee, the big receiver, 6-foot-4, another freak. I think he might be 6-foot-5. He reminds me of Martavius Bryant. He even looks like him. He’s tall, skinny, wears no. 10, he’s got the grilles in, he’s got the dreads. The way he runs, the way he catches the ball.

"He reminds me of Martavius and it’s crazy because a kid like that… hasn’t hit his full potential yet. Seeing him on the field and realizing what he can be is from a player perspective is like ‘Holy sh–, this guy could be something serious.'”

Very, very early. But still notable Dont'e Thornton Jr (108th overall pick) appears to be getting more first-team reps than Jack Bech (58th overall pick).

“If minicamp was any indication, the Raiders have their frontrunners for their starting wide receivers. They would have Jakobi Meyers in the slot with Tre Tucker and rookie Dont'e Thornton on the outside. All three have had their moments as a Geno Smith target in offseason practices. Meyers being mister dependable, Tucker as the speedster, and Thornton being the physical freak with the length and wingspan.”

The reports are impressive for this kid. Kudos to him.
They throw 10k times to the TEs so there is no way I'm drafting their third or fourth WR.

Respect for Geno's work in Seattle but he would need to throw for 5-6000 yards to feed projections some are sharing.

What are the projections some are sharing? I don’t see any projections in the thread at all.

Raiders.com reporter Levi Edwards said WR Dont’e Thornton Jr. “has already become a top target” for Geno Smith.
Edwards writes, Thornton is “using his speed to get vertical down the field,” towers “over smaller defenders in the middle of the field and [uses] his acceleration to create separation consistently.” Questioning Thornton’s 2025 fantasy impact is reasonable. In a best-case outcome, Thornton would likely be operating as the No. 4 receiving weapon behind Brock Bowers, Jakobi Meyers and Ashton Jeanty, leaving him with an unreliable target share. Still, this is the second positive report on Thornton in as many weeks. Perhaps, the Raiders found a starter in the fourth round. Stay tuned.

The drumbeat has been pretty steady with this kid, but I can't quite get over max 26 catches in college. Jalin Hyatt was a worse athlete and also very rough from a route development standpoint, and even he could blow up at UT.
I can see him as a high snap low target guy. He can serve a valuable real football role as a sacrificial field stretcher.

Dang someone drafted in our May rookie draft. Seems like he's going to be a hit at least relative to what he was being valued at a couple months ago

I am very excited to see how Thornton does this season. I think he has all but locked up being WR3 at worst (Meyers, Tucker and him). I am not sure how much dependable fantasy relevance he will have, if any, but I expect him to go for multiple long TDs this season. Could be a sweet late round gem.

On his college tape, he runs the fly and a nice deep post. Draftbuzz says he has a good release, soft hands, and good deep ball tracking. Not much competition but rising to a starting WR as a 4th rounder doesn't happen often.

If teams worry too much about Bowers and Jeanty, Geno, who has a very good deep ball, could connect with Thornton or generate some DPIs. There have been several deep throws to him in the preseason, none complete, but one underthrow by AOC when he was open deep. Thornton is faster than Martavius and seems to have his head screwed on right. He may not be fantasy relevant, but he could elevate Gino and make the Raiders fun to watch again.

No idea if he can run routes but he catches the football with his hands, which should be the case for all NFL WR, but isn't.
Not sure if it will matter if he gets the go/hook/back shoulder timing down with Geno. He’s faster and obviously unproven, but that catch reminded me of Alshon Jeffrey. So I had to go check Thornton’s draft profile. He has 9 5/8 inch hands. Those are some meat hooks.

Dude has everything you'd ever want in a WR and then some, except for experience running a variety of routes. From everything I have read/seen in camp and PS, he can absolutely run routes required at the next level.

I think the Raiders got a potential steal in the 4th.

Took Bech in my dynasty rookie draft early July. Have since corrected myself and have a couple shares of Thornton. One keeper league as an WR6 or so, and one last guy on the bench for a guillotine league.

let's go rook!
