WR Elic Ayomanor, TEN (1 Viewer)

See? I don't like it when rookies talk of comfort issues and it's obvious.
Play the guys that did well in camp and stop doing contrary "I know best" junk.

Link isn't working. Can you post the quote? Thanks.
He's always confident but the biggest part is comfortability. He's a rookie and has only played two games ...

Its about a minute so; there's more but ...

What are your thoughts on Ward? When will we see that breakout game that elevates the entire offense?
He's a former basketball point guard that still thinks like one. He admires CP3 and some others and gets all star struck giggly when even asked about them.

He must be in sync.
Ayomanor can be running on the break and he hit him for a dunk.
Ridley is playing like a chump and has to be there for the alleyoops.
Notice he throws not to Pollard but, near, he's breaking a press with him.
Maybe Gunnar is like banging it into the post.

It was said at Miami and predraft and kinda got away from it. Now they say he's a spot thrower. No he's leading everyone like a PG does. You run into that and go.

Dike and Lockett who are not in sync look just like NBA subs. They run into the defender and battle unnecessarily for a ball and any chance of YAC is gone.

Van and Oliver I think got 7? more snaps.
(Oliver is probably out) Van should play more and it's been said he'll play more but coach doesn't always do what he says. If he's out there running up the court for Ward to dish to, Ward will get in a zone.

He needs his horses. It's unnecessarily hard for him right now.

Maybe Lockett and Dike get in sync.

There's never been a QB that curl routes were more annoying to watch than Ward. He wants to throw ahead of em'.

When Kurt Warner talks (remember he was excellent at having his track stars catch it n go) it all makes perfect sense.

He's Magic playing with only Worthy right now. He needs his boys. Give him Kareem and Cooper and Byron Scott then he'll run it. And maybe Callahan is that annoying guy that says Magic played Center once. He just doesn't get it.

Interesting. So under that premise then:

Ward = PG
Pollard = SF
Ridley = SG
Ayomanor = PF
Chig = C

Thoughts?

Sure

Elic Ayomanor caught 4-of-5 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Titans’ Week 3 loss to the Colts.

Although his targets have actually fallen from seven to six to five, fourth-round rookie Ayomanor has now found the end zone in back-to-back contests. He’s out-producing Calvin Ridley, but only just. We would have to assume sparking Ridley will be a coaching staff focus moving forward, but Ayomanor is hanging around as an end-of-bench WR5 heading into bye week season.

I mean it feels like he's the WR1 of this team, but the O is so bad it doesn't mean that much.

He's getting close to being a weekly flex at this point.
He had some troubles today. They were rough with him and he was outta the plays sometimes.
Later he was pushing and brushing them off like he figured it out.

Wonderful sight that he and Ridley were on the same side of the field a lot meaning they're confident in his understanding of route running, positioning, timing and balance now. Big progress there.

He's not a one. He's raw and better every week.
He looks very good.

He's not Julio or some ridiculous athletic freak.

He couldn't handle top corners yet and he doesn't have to. He's doing well. Things are good.

They'll still need a freak when Ridley is gone. Maybe hopefully Jeremiah Smith.

He had one chucked up high for him and he went and got it. It wasn't a smooth play but Cam trusts him.

People are too excited over 50 yards and 38 or whatever.

He's coming along very nicely

Like I said, he's no 1.

He's good though and there's so many moments that the Titans have no go to WR or TE.

With every passing week I think more n more it might be Gunnar.

Elic could feed off anyone and be a nice complimentary guy that oh btw breaks free for a deep one.

The Titans have had five players get injured, miss a bit, a statement they're about back and limited practices, then go out for an extended time. This setback routine has been brutal.
Bryce Oliver was a projected starter/key sub since he started all off-season.
Elic was a surprise starter announced a week or two before the start of the regular season in that post camp window. He seemed good for the fourth WR and key sub spot.

He's started and had some nice catches. Still very confident he can high point over most CBs, but what else?

A single game above 50 yards and a snap share of 81 percent is not good for a starting WR.
The shine wore off.
He's been 90% snaps lately and 29,27, and 18 yards his last three starts.

Oliver was to be back last week, didn't, and is now DNP.
Lockett released.
Ridley out with hammy and elbow and knee.
Jefferson is playing thru an ankle and asking him to do well against an elite CB is an enormous ask.

These were the Titans veterans and (2nd year) Oliver. They were to have a big presence as Elic developed and worked into a bigger and bigger role.

Since he was thrust into the starting lineup (even he was shocked) he looked pretty good the first couple weeks and then pfff he ain't ready.

Dike was a WR they'd find time for and progress would do same and take away from veterans but there was a clear drop off between Elic and Dike. Dike was wayyy secondary.

The plan was fine but made of eggshells. If Oliver produced that would be three young WRs by season's end and a nice outlook. Van and Lockett were highly questionable producers and Ridley has always been as such.

Now Elic has to be the biggest contributor til guys get healthy since Van will likely be shutdown by an opposing top CB.

How can Elic possibly be confident? This has been my big concern since he was thrust into the lineup and now what? If he was brought along slowly last week would have been his big chance and it could have been very different.

Dike looked very rough. Not in sync. Drops. Questionable play calls. Rough. He broke free and had a good first quarter last week. All the games leading up- he was averaging a smidge more than a yard per target. After that quarter he had a gooseegg. He's been playing 50-60 percent of snaps for a few weeks because...why?

There has been no bringing them along typical type development.

The future is here now. Both rookies likely to start and have to produce some significant numbers.

They could have signed any veteran WR to get the 20-50 yards their starters have been getting and still bring these rookies along. They had to waiver priority for five weeks.

Now it's just oh well I hope it works out.

I don't....I'm afraid they're gonna mess em up.

I hope they start with some high passes, maybe one he could use his body, maybe Dike gets a couple crossers. It seems imperative they start the game giving these guys bread n butter plays.

This is also the opposite of a top WR or TE being a rookie QBs best friend. What a mess

A lot of talk of Elic on the radio this week
What to do? He's pretty stagnant in his development and if ya take away garbage time stats he's not good.
A lot of the times the conversation shifts to subbing him out, coaching him up, putting him back in but also hypocritical in that if Chig and Ridley are traded he'll have to play more (which isn't possible really but ...).

I enjoyed the talk today of Cam's boys and which skill position players are going to aid his development the rest of the way.
The gist of that is "who is getting it done?" Play them. Get the others to that point.

Former WRs hosts- Elic was using great technique and losing to physical CBs in camp, then learned to be physical, now he's playing with neither. It happens. He's adjusted his game too much to not really be committed to doing anything well and they gotta get him back to square one and he'll quickly get back in line like a coach reminding a young player.

One interesting Hopkins quote came up and it's a shame he didn't learn w Nuk. "Some Sundays it'll be a finger tip grab, a shielded catch, a dive. Some Sundays you have to earn every single catch. Sometimes it's like that." So some opinions that Elic might have to accept his easy job in college may take a lot of hard work in the pros. Might be mental and he's just gotta accept a gritty make something out of nothing every time road to hoe.
