WR Josh Gordon, KC (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Sources tell the Plain Dealer that the Browns got "several good offers" for Josh Gordon Tuesday.

None of the offers were good enough to cause the Browns to pull the trigger. If Gordon can keep his nose clean off the field, he'll reward their patience. At just 22 years old, he's averaging 5.3 catches for 97.0 yards with three touchdowns in six games. Extrapolated over a 16-game season, that would be 85 catches for 1,552 yards and eight scores. Rebuilding teams don't trade away young, cheap players with this kind of ability.

I have a question:

We know that Gordon is one more violation from getting a one year suspension. Does that carry forward to next year and his entire career?
not sure if this is correct, but what i just read says that stage 3 lasts the rest of the players career.

I believe he remains one strike away for the rest of his career. It looks like Blackmon screwed up again. Seems lots of folks are discounting the risk of a one year suspension or even an indefinite suspension. Having had Onterrio Smith some years ago, I am sensitive to this risk.

Which is why teams didn't want to pony up high compensation for him despite his elite talent.

Ah yes, SOD....introduced us to the fabulous Whizzinator. Good times, good times. Sorry I got a little sentimental....

I really hope Gordon is paying attention and stays clean. Guy is absolutely a treat to watch when he gets loose in the secondary. History is filled with guys with elite ability who throw it all away for something stupid. I live in Houston and people here think we're somewhat cursed, but we've got nothing on Cleveland. They've suffered enough and they might not be as far away as it appears. Obviously this is THE huge key, but add the right rookie QB to an offense with Gordon and Cameron and an OL with Thomas/Mack and you've got something. Defense has some pieces as well. Keep it clean Josh, and I'm rooting for the guys who play at a place once dubbed "A Factory of Sadness."

I thought for sure this was bumped back up by owners who had worries renewed by the Blackmon news. I know it bothers me.

Any thoughts on Campbell's excellent performance vs KC? I was pretty shocked but then Hoyer did very wekk coming in for Weeden too.

Bal as a matchup?

ROS matchups???

I think Gordon will be bottled up initially because Blt had a bye week to prepare, but then Gordon should be okay after the first qtr, imo.

Gordon is a must start at this point regardless of matchup. He's just been too productive to not have in your lineup. He is WR15 with two goose eggs in my league and if you only account for games he's played in, he's either WR3 or WR2.

What makes him so great is the fact that it only takes 1 catch for him to be a productive starter; he's the king of long TDs. Last page in this thread, the stats were posted and every single one his career TDs have been 15-20 yards or longer. He has no problem breaking off a 66 yard TD no matter who they're playing. My league awards bonuses for 40+ yard TDs so that makes him that much sweeter.

He has a permanent home in my Flex spot. With him, I have the top 3 WRs pretty much: Megatron, Dez, and him. In PPR leagues, its tough to argue against going WR top heavy.

ajgreen and julio on the list also. DT is right there also.

I'd still have a bit of concern about Campbell staying healthy. IIRC he got dinged with OAK and CHI last two years. Not saying bench Gordon, just it's possible Weeden could get pressed into service again.

Hate to say I told you so...
He's back in. But continue the back-patting anyway.
Ha ha I'm glad he is...I'm a Gordon/Cam owner so I wasn't back patting...more like frustrated but now relieved.

This is what happens when you NEGLECT FACT, try to get cute, and bench your studs...

Hate to say I told ya so.... but, ya
FACTS pointed to a big day against the Packers last week too, but he laid a turd. Someone following that same line of thought to not bench him last week would have been wrong. Talent doesn't always win out, and there were certainly enough factors going against him this week to be gunshy again. Talent came out ahead this week, unlike last week, and it could have gone either way. That's why this is a game of chance.

Anyone can be right after the fact.

Hopefully he'll have more of these games than last week's games going forward, but obviously from last week's results, nothing is ever a guarantee.
Calvin put up a few stinkers too. So has Dez... Demariyus... etc etc

what's you point?

you benched a stud and got burned.

end of story
Does this guy still post here?

Whats the verdict on Gordon this week?

Im looking at Steve Smith and Rueben Randle.... I'm thinking not a chance I sit Gordon, hes due for a breakout game

I'm still a little leery of starting him with that quarterback situation. Do you think he's more valuable than Keenan Allen? Or Riley Cooper?
He's better than both of those options despite his quarterback situation. If he had Cutler or Stafford throwing him the ball, he'd be a top 3-5 receiver. Both in real football and fantasy.

I don't knooow, He's only scored the one TD with Campbell and that was on a flea-flicker. + I don't like his matchups going forward: Ike Taylor, Talib, Tillman, etc.

I think him and Allen are close, and I've recently moved Allen ahead because of the stability at QB, and I think he's a better bet for a TD each week. Cooper's QB situation could also be fluid, not to mention he is just as, or even more dependent on TDs/big plays than Gordon.

For this week, I'd bench Allen between the three, but ROS I'd rank it Allen, Gordon, then Cooper.

I have the same choice between Gordon and Allen and I'm a little more comfortable starting Allen myself.... Gotta roll with both this week as Dez is on a bye but it will be an interesting decision week to week

I've been choosing Allen over Gordon past three to four weeks as well. Feels like the more stable option and compliments my team better I think, since I have some other players boomy busty types such as Gio and V Jax.

Rolling with Garçon, Fitz ( good matchup v JAX ) and V Jax over Gordon and Allen this week though

Ahh, thanks.

Any thoughts on him this week vs Pitt? I have to decide between him and Hilton (I can already tell this is a decision I'll be agonizing over every week for the rest of the season, and I totally blew it last week).

Ike Taylor can occasionally be a shutdown corner (Marshall, AJ, Calvin in the second half) and occasionally gets destroyed (Jennings, Dobson/Amendola, Calvin in the first half).

I'm going with him this week over Garçon, Allen and Fitzgerald. Pittsburgh are playing better but I don't think they are by any means infallible to the long passing game.

I don't see any major reason to bench him for this matchup. Ike Taylor looked very up and down to me last week.

The Steelers play down to the level of the opposing team, so I expect the Browns to be in it until the end. I think Gordon has another good day. I can't think of 23 guys I'd rather start on a weekly basis, so I can't imagine sitting him.

Did anyone watch the entire game last week? How did he only catch 5 balls on 15 targets?!

fwiw - Ike Taylor had safety help with Calvin the entire second half of the Lions game.

The big 79ish yard touchdown that Calvin got last week in the first half, he was completely open. Didn't have to use his superior jump, height etc.

He's an "always start your studs" guy for me from now on. Got cute because of weather alert and Tate's matchup vs. MIN last week. Cost me the game.

PIT overall has a good ranking for FFPA vs QBs & WRs, but look at some of the QBs they've played: Geno Smith, EJ Manuel first game back... early in the seasons (before they got hot) Locker, Dalton, and later Flacco and Pryor.

Cassell had a good game against them. And so did Brady (in full slump mode) and so did Stafford.

I'm guessing the low catch rate for Gordon had to do with Campbell getting pressure from Cincy's line.

Any observations on Campbell? How does he fit Turner's scheme, he had rib issues last week supposedly, how did the weather affect things, etc.? Previous two games he had done well.

now the Jordan Cameron situation sucks.. wish I would have got rid of him before Campbell came into the picture
