WR Josh Gordon, KC (8 Viewers)

My question is why do people care what the NFL policies are and for Gordon in particular? I can guarantee he doesn't give two #### what your work policies are. It's laughable that people are trying to white knight for a kid who just doesn't even give one ####.
now this is just a straight up "mcnabbstare.gif" post. i mean, we have a whole forum with 100s of thousands of posts dedicated to ppl who dont give 2 shts about us. you have contributed over 24k posts to ppl who likewise dont care about you. your self awareness is pretty bad.

:lmao: Like we are expected to believe he wrote that essay :lmao:
Why was it really that complex? Its worded the same way he talks in interviews anyway.
For him, yes.
So you havent heard him speak ever?
Yes and it always comes off just like this:

Dear Sir Charles, Stephen A., Cris and other interested parties,

Thank you for your recent outpouring of concern about my well being. In what has been a difficult time for my family, friends and fans, you — and those like you — have taken it upon yourselves to express just how much you care about me and my future. For that, I am truly appreciative

Browns just hired a new wide receiver coach. Joker Phillips will now be coaching the Browns wideouts. Guess we're lucky that neither of his brothers, Smoker or Midnight Toker got the job instead. That could have been extremely problematic :)

I have let down many in Cleveland — my Browns teammates, our hard-working coaching staff, the team’s ownership, and the loyal fan base that wants nothing more than to win. Playing there is different than in many other cities. We feel the fans’ pain. We know how important this is to them.
Now who's making generalizations? He's never taken the opportunity to get to know other cities.

Good stuff written by Gordon (and his agent) to Barkley et al.

It's a good read but impossible to spend more than ten seconds into without losing part of your focus on it because you're thinking "there is no way Josh Gordon authored this". If he truly had these types of thoughts and reflections weighing this heavily on him, it didn't happen over night. It's been churning for a while and those kinds of things don't just get unleashed all at once and present themselves this polished. We would have seen glimpses before.

If the piece wasn't so extremely crafted to pull at particular emotions and give info that he has NEVER mentioned in public before, it might be a bit more believable also.

It's a good read and there are a lot of interesting things said, but when your history is you DID mess up, repeatedly, and even if all the recent stuff was just the worst bad luck you could have, the fact still remains that you DID drink...you did go to places where there were drugs..you DID put yourself in that spot to allow this unluckiest of events to play out when you knew you were hanging on by a thread.

A lot of what he says is true but this is a deflection piece and the NFL isn't going to buy it. He's out of chances, unfortunately.

Hey! Don't get cute trying to point out accurate facts!

Had the exact same thoughts as I read it.

From that article:

It doesn’t matter if I thought that the league-imposed restriction on drinking had expired at the end of the regular season; what matters is that I didn’t confirm whether or not that was the case. Now, that oversight has further jeopardized my relationship with my team and our fans, my reputation, and maybe even my career.
This guy kills me. After all the stuff he's been through, the hard child hood, the drug issues in college and in the NFL...after all the drama of last year with having to appeal a year long suspension...then getting a DWI on top of that...it finally gets reduced... he is back to playing in the NFL again...then he misses a team walk through and gets suspended by the team...after all of that...he doesn't think to figure out this little detail of his agreement?

Doesn't make any sense at all. He is just going to keep making excuses as this letter shows.
It doesn't say "it doesn't matter that I thought...." It says "it doesn't matter if I thought..." That's a difference precisely drafted, probably by an attorney. He never says that was his thoughts; all he says is that it wouldn't matter if that was his thoughts. It implies he thought that for a casual reader but still leaves the door open to "explain" it if he's confronted with proof that he didn't think it.

If Gordon does not drive who gives a chit if he has a couple of drinks in the off-season. Same with Matt Prater who was suspened 4 games for having some beers. Drive drunk and take whatever punishment is handed out. If you get smashed in your own home or out with a driver I could care less.

All this because he tested positive for alcohol on his last test. Worst CBA ever.....
No, all this because he has been busted over and over and over again since at least college.
Why cant it be both?
Because if he only drank alcohol one time, he wouldn't be in any trouble at all. It's the accumulation of issues that gave him less and less leeway and culminated in this.
Correct

So why can't it be both again?

Problem is, the players association agreed to these idiotic rules.

Gotta follow the rules, even when they are ridiculously stupid. Hence, worst CBA ever

Isn't it weird we don't really ever hear anything about dudes getting suspended for alcohol or weed in any of the other sports?

It is because those players in all the other sports magically don't use those substances ever??

I'm not sure what I'm more upset about. Gordon getting suspended for alcohol use or Warren Sapp being suspended for prostitution. NFL Network has some terrible rules and Sapp was basically forced to sign a contract if he wanted to work there.

There's a whole bunch of NBA players that have been suspended for drug use and DUIs. The odds are that way more are smoking pot, but plenty of NBA players HAVE been suspended.

MLB is certainly a different story as the union has virtually all the power there.

Rotoworld:

Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports the Browns plan to pursue an "impact" wide receiver this offseason, and that Josh Gordon "no longer factors into any plans."
GM Ray Farmer basically said as much in his Tuesday statement confirming Gordon's year-long suspension, but we don't buy that Gordon has been completely put out of mind. If that were true, he would have already been cut. Instead, the Browns can keep Gordon stashed on the reserve/suspended list while his $1.068 million 2015 salary tolls for 2016.

I'm certainly not going to judge these guys for their vices but they can always go work someplace else if they don't like the rules or the contracts in place with the NFL. Nobody is forcing them to work here if they don't agree with its conduct policies or have any self control. Life is about choices and they chose marijuana/alcohol/hookers over making a salary with the NFL. Not a big deal. Go work somewhere else that doesn't care if your name and mugshot gets plastered all over every media outlet when you make certain choices and end up getting caught.

Exactly. I worked at a place that made us wear suits no matter what our corporate role. After 2 weeks of sitting in finance while wearing a jacket all day, I quit. Wasn't for me. You don't like the NFL rules, quit and find another job. Josh Gordon can probably get a nice gig at UPS that will take advantage of his ability to handle packages and move quickly.

I've been offered Gordon in my dynasty league for a 2016 3rd round rookie pick. He'd take up a roster spot all next year, doing nothing. Is he even worth that at this point?

Yes, assuming you have reasonably deep rosters. Most people are using a roster spot on someone with less potential than Gordon.

A 3rd is well worth the risk of him never playing again.

Rotoworld:

League sources tell Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that Josh Gordon will file a grievance against the Browns for his Week 17 suspension.
Gordon was suspended without pay for missing the team's walk-through the day before Cleveland's Week 17 loss to Baltimore. The suspension is significant because it affects Gordon's free agency. The way it stands now, Gordon won't be a free agent until 2017. But if the suspension is overturned, Gordon will have been active for six games during the 2014 season. That sixth game would make Gordon eligible to become a restricted free agent in 2016. It sounds like Gordon is ready to get out of Cleveland. With all Gordon has put the Browns through, they're probably ready to let him walk.

I'm sure getting suspended for all of 2015 is gonna help his cause

Saw this from Mr Gordon on twitter; not sure what it means:

Flash Gordon
@JOSH_GORDONXII

Why so many retweets from 2010?

why should it have anything to do with it?

He's the client that keeps on giving. He's going to spend his salary on fighting dwi's, pot suspension, drinking suspension, week 17 suspension. They hit the jackpot with this dummy.
