WR Josh Gordon, KC (7 Viewers)

2014 should have counted as another year on his deal (as the league only suspended him 10 games - meaning he could have played in each of the other 6, which would count toward a full season).  Then he overslept or whatever week 17 - and the team didn't let him play.  So the entire season didn't count toward him being a year closer to free agency.  And neither will this one given the timeline laid out by the commish.  Meaning in 2018 he'll be playing on the rookie deal from 2012, 6 years before.

I really try to get into the minds of team organization and the player.  Really 95% of Josh Gordon owners are banking on 2013 level production.  I'm trying to gauge the team's incentive to play him.  Obviously Gordon will want to earn that 2018 salary and that's his motivation.  The Browns?  Well they drafted Coleman.  I would think if they intend to keep Gordon around for years they would hire a full time consultant to keep tabs on him day to day.  Addiction is no joke.  Alcohol or drugs.  It's engraved in your DNA forever.  I stand by my own opinion that the Browns are moving on.  Leaving Gordon and his addiction to be dealt with on his own.  This is dangerous ground.

And if they do, then he really would be a free agent (is my understanding).  He's under contract to play next year for a bit over $1m for the Browns.  I guess they could trade him to another team who could take on that contract, though.  Either way, he'd be out of Cleveland.

 
Read up on this and be on the look out for any signs the Browns are truly committed to Josh.  I doubt it since their front office and owners can't even come together to complete the AJ McCarron trade.  We really need to focus on addiction and not his 2013 season.  This #### is for real.

In my league (PPR) the best fantasy day by a Browns receiver this year is 16.90 points (Higgins 7 for 95). Even if Gordon doesn't skip a beat, that's what he's coming into. Can't imagine this comes close to a lottery ticket scenario...

Coleman looked good before going down and will be back week 11 though. I'm sure he would have surpassed that had he stayed healthy.

3.  Let him take offers from other teams and let him walk.

4.  Resign him to a multi year deal.

Incorrect.  He's not eligible until week 13 so will not get an accrued season this year, making him an Exclusive Rights Free Agent.  In this case he can't take offers from other teams.  CLE can offer him a qualifying tender (which is a 1 year deal) and that's all he gets.  He'd then be RFA in 2019.

 
Welcome back to the team, Josh. I'll never forget what we had in 2013. If any kids our there never got a chance to see Megatron play, you're in for a treat, Flash is about as close to that as you are gonna see in 2017. He's never had a good qb and it never stopped him from producing. Only thing that can stop him is his addiction.

Just please leave this dude alone, Soulcurse. It is too late for you to get any credit on this guy. You were dead wrong for years. This is hopefully a new set of downs for the kid. Leave him be and hope for the best. Put your damn curse horn away.

Unless you are a Browns fan why does everyone care so much if the Browns are committed to him or not? Serious question.  Why does it matter?

 
When he makes that first catch, on his first drive back on the field... What I'd expect to be a 15-25yd catch in heavy traffic..

And he just gets up, tosses the ball to the ref, and gets back to the huddle, no fuss no muss...

Knew I shouldn't have done this.  Vernon Davis would have been an upgrade at my flex position this week but I didn't have room for him.  May have cost me 1-2 wins in the IB (7 games played each week).

 
Josh Gordon is scheduled to report to the Browns on Tuesday.

As part of his conditional reinstatement, Gordon is eligible to attend meetings for the next two weeks, resume practicing on November 20, and return to the active roster Week 13. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team hopes he will be ready to play when first eligible, but there is still a long way to go. Gordon is not going to help teams get to the fantasy playoffs, but he is a good speculative add for squads already on their way.

I love this thread, but now that we know that Josh Gordon is actually going to be back and the field, some of the comic relief has to take a backseat to what he will actually be when resumes playing?

Will Gordon walk onto the field and have an immediate impact or will be be just another guy?

My money is on the latter.

Totally open to eating crow if Gordon comes back and lights it up equally to his last solid season a whole 4 years ago. Also open to eating some crow if Gordon comes back and adds value to the point where he is a startable flex or WR option for FF teams this year.

But I'm thinking the greater probability by far is that a) it takes a long time to knock rust and adjust back to a life he hasn't led for years, and b) his heart truly isn't in it (I question whether it ever was) and he doesn't take it as seriously as he could/should to take full advantage of whatever talent/ability he has left. I am sure he wants the cash. Not sure he wants (or ever wanted) to do the things he needs to do truly excel at this level.

But I'm just one opinion in the seething mass of opinion on this guy.

 
The other issue for Gordon is the Browns have to want him back and use him to the best of their abilities. I'm not so sure of that. They may be content to keep losing to get a better draft pick, have him inactive, or have him as a 4th or 5th receiver that barely sees the field (see Bryant, Martavius). Admitting he played every game in his career under the influence of drugs or alcohol and knowing how to beat the testing system may not exactly endear him to Cleveland management.

I think if they have not won a game that they will be trying hard to win one. No one wants to go 0fer. 

 
Ya, I'm sure the Browns, who have had EVERY opportunity to cut or trade his rights to this day, are not gonna wanna use him now that he's turned things around.

Very good read. I'm pulling for him. He says that what makes this time different is that he's doing it for himself. That's the right approach otherwise the resentments never end. I know from experience. Best of luck to Josh.
