WR Julio Jones, Retired (2 Viewers)

I Have Jones and Douglass to choose from in my SB. If Jones starts, he starts for me and I accept the outcome knowing it was the rational decision to make. It's frustrating having a red hot player dinged at this critical time of the year but if he starts you have to have him in your lineup. Just roll with him and hope for the best.
Totally hate this logic.

They are plenty of times where stud types are "active" but produce jack squat because they are nowhere near 100%.

A WR's hip is quite important for any type of route. He hasn't practiced in two weeks. A "walk through" is beyond meaningless in terms of his actual effectiveness if he is to play.

I am happy rolling with just about any decent option over Julio.

The real question is, can you live with it all offseason if Julio goes off while he's on your bench, when you would have won if you started him? I think that's what most people are afraid of the most.

Fear.

No, just like I couldnt live with it if I knew I shoulda benched the guy and would have won if I trusted my instincts rather than use a "start him no matter what" thought process.

Since I would be equally upset in both cases, I will go with the guy I think will do better

In another, no idea, but in a two week playoff I have a big lead at the moment, and dont need to risk a total dud from Julio.

Maybe I'm too trusting. If the Falcons think he's healthy enough to dress, I assume he's healthy enough to resemble a reasonable facsimile of Julio. But people got burned when Calvin played the decoy role earlier this year, so it's not an easy choice.

I have Demaryius Thomas, Odell Beckham, Julio Jones, Josh Gordon and Eric Decker in a start 3 WR league.

If Julio is going to play, I'm putting him in, period.

Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas and Odell Beckham as my 3WRs. And not scared at all.

Matt Ryan at QB is the final clincher if I had any doubt.

Even if he is "limited", the appeal of Ryan to Jones is too good for me, and I'm certainly not risking another "Johnny football killing Gordon" Sunday afternoon.

If he is not going to play, then in comes Gordon.

TZM

Gotta choose between Gordon or Julio in a non PPR... If he's active I think I will roll him out there as panthers defense has been hot and Cleveland has been a hot mess... I think if you have somebody else with a decent matchup and you don't need the possibility of a 30 plus pt game than go with the safer option... If u need the upside than roll with Julio and hope for the best

I am interested in Julio's status due to my having lost T.Y. Hilton this week to hamstring injury. I picked up Harry Douglas as a Hilton replacement. On the chance that Julio DOES start, I see some posters in this thread intimating that Jones is just decoy. I am wondering Douglas' output with Jone actually playing today. I Jones is serving only as a decoy good for the guys starting Douglas today. If not - well then we just need to say, "Oh well eff'd again!".

I am also wondering why I didn't just opt for Donte Moncrief as my Hilton replacement! WIth our league's ridiculous CBS waivers, I have no chance to pick him up since waivers ran at 0-dark thirty this morning and are now locked. lol.

In your best Andy Williams tone, sing it with me: "It's the most wonderful time, of the year." Merry Christmas ladies and gents!

My other options are Charles Johnson, De Andre Hopkins, Harry Douglas and Martavis Bryant . I guess if I had a stud wr to choose from it would be a harder choice. Most people with Julio don't have stronger options to replace him with. I'm not rolling the dice on one of those second tier guys who are just as risky.

People also got burned sitting Brandon Marshall in Week 3 when he put up 3 TD's after Schefter reported a 90% probability he wouldn't play. So it can go both ways.

I'm in total agreement with your conclusion, however. If the Falcons think he is healthy enough to dress then they likely think he will be more effective than Douglas or their other options which is good enough for me.

I'm a non-believer in the whole "decoy" theory. DC's pick up on that pretty quickly. Like after the first route.

I have Jeffery to go if Julio doesn't. With Cutler and against a normal D, I play Jeffery. With Claussen and against Detroit, I just don't know.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Sunday Countdown that Julio Jones' specific injury is a strained oblique.
Mort also reiterated that the Falcons are "optimistic" Jones will play today. The Falcons visit the Saints in a 1pm ET game, so we will have Julio's activity or lack thereof posted on the website no later than noon ET today.

This makes sense as he was grabbing his side when he first hurt himself...i never understood why they called it a hip injury

I almost want him to sit to make my decision easier. I am so afraid he is going to be a decoy.

Because of the risk of re-injury, oblique pulls or strains can often shelve players for up to six weeks. The time off can be miserable. And painful.

Chris Perez remembers when the pain was the sharpest.

"Rolling out of bed, getting into a car," the Indians closer said. "Sneezing was the worst."

"Every step of my foot on the ground, it hurt," said Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo, who returned too early from a sore oblique last August. He missed an additional two weeks after taking four days off to initially rest the tweaked muscle.

"It affects everything: sneezing, walking, let alone baseball activities," said Royals infielder Chris Getz

Good thing Julio doesnt have a strained oblique.

Julio Jones pregame workout is done. It looked like when Jones was asked how he feels he made a "so-so" motion with his hands. Ran good tho

The Falcons used Roddy as a decoy for large stretches last year. Going to be a big gamble.

Not knowing sux. Trying to decide between Harry Douglass or VJax...ugh
I have the same deal as you. I am sort of leaning towards VJAx if Julio plays. VJax has been coming on the last few weeks, plus he has not scored a td in a long time, which means he is due. Also, the Packers d can be thrown on. To me he looks like he has a higher floor.

Totally agree with this. If Julio sits, however, then I see Douglass getting much more targets than VJax but not as likely to score a TD.

In ppr, it has to be Douglas all the way if Juilio sits. I never thought I would ever be wishing for Julio to sit, but here I am.

Ok poop... It's now either Julio or Gordon for me... I posted here last night that I'd start Julio but GEEZ I'm nervous either way... Nonppr

I've had a strained oblique and it was the second worst pain i had ever felt and it lasted a mth.. (Worst was sinus surgery)

Have Douglas and Julio and was happy enough to put Douglas in but now Julio is playing, I have to play him right? Douglas could still have 5/70 or so with a shot at a TD and Julio could have a quiet game, a big game or even re-injure himself. Who knows. Brutal.

Just think of it this way, quite simple really, how would you feel not starting him and he goes off??? I think I rather have him play and not do well then on the bench and going off. I drafted him early for a reason.

Good projection on Douglas there. 5 for 70 and 50% shot at TD seems to be his floor today.

Yep exactly. Years ago I lost a semi final game when I benched Anquan, my best wr at the time, because he was supposed to be limited. He absolutely dominated. My team then dominated the next week and I would have won champ. Never forgot that. Sickening feeling to see your stud dominating...on your bench

So it's a strained oblique... quite different than a torn labrum. That poster needs banned.

so, is two weeks long enough to heal an oblique?

I can't not play him look at his last 2 games played. He was unstoppable. He could have has 4 tds in the packers game he was tackled inside the 5 yard line 3 times

Douglas has only scored 5 TD is something like 40+ games. He needs volume of catches to have a good game and I don't see that happening with Jones active.

@FalconsJAdams: Watching the end of warmups now. Julio Jones is really passing the eye test right now. Looks strong, loose, ready. #ATLvsNO
