WR Justin Jefferson, MIN (1 Viewer)

Justin Jefferson caught 1-of-5 targets for 15 yards in the Vikings' Week 17 loss to the Packers.

Jaire Alexander backed up his trash talk about Jefferson's Week 1 explosion against the Packers being a "fluke." In Week 17, Alexander shadowed Jefferson on nearly every route -- a vastly different approach than the zone-heavy scheme Green Bay deployed against the Vikings in Week 1. Jefferson was noticeably flustered from start to finish; Alexander was firmly in the superstar's head, taking every opportunity to chat with Jefferson before and after plays. Jefferson has a great chance to bounce back from his Week 17 humiliation next week against a horrendous Chicago coverage unit. Jefferson had 12 catches for 154 yards against the Bears in Week 5.

Justin Jefferson caught 7-of-9 targets for 47 yards in the Vikings' Wild Card Round loss to the Giants.

Jefferson was peppered with targets in the early going, seeing four targets on the Vikings' first drive. His fourth target appeared to lead to a Vikings TD as Jefferson extended the football and hit the pylon. However, he was ultimately ruled down at the one after replay determined that his shin hit the ground. He was quieter for the rest of the game and his longest reception of the day went for just 10 yards. Jefferson's early playoff exit was a disappointing ending to an elite season. Jefferson led all wide receivers in targets, receptions, yards, and PPR fantasy points. Unfortunately, he wasn't as dominant in terms of getting in the end zone. His eight TDs tied for WR8. And Jefferson had his worst game of the season at the worst time for fantasy managers, delivering an absolute dud in Week 17. Still, as long as the Vikings have Cousins or another capable quarterback under center in 2023, Jefferson will have a very strong case to be the first wide receiver off the board in fantasy drafts.

He ended the seasons with 3 straight duds and by any account I can find is perfectly healthy. Did GB discover a blueprint to cover him? Any concern level heading into next year?
Seems like defenses figure out more about the Vikings offense / scheme than specifically JJ.

Mostly their OL has taken some significant hits - that seems like a much bigger part of the issue there. That started week 17 when the center Schlottman went down with a broken fibula.

I wouldn’t worry about next season too much. That said, Cousins is always a little concerning.

Agree with hot sauce guy that it's a scheme / exploitation of Cousins issue. WR doesn't put up 1800 yards in a season if the league "can cover him." I'm not sure I'm confident in o'connell or Cousins though so I may not keep Jefferson in a keeper

I kind of feel like floating him as trade bait as well...something about that Minn situation just seems off to me. I know he put up 1800 yards but down the stretch he killed me...Minn exploits bad matchups but for the teams that compete...i'm not so sure

Bengals find ways to get Chase the ball when he is covered. I think his lack of production may be due to play calling.
Seems defenses and teams that are competent have found ways to bait Cousins to take easier throws. I think Cousins got his *** kicked yesterday too so he was maybe tired of getting hit and didn't let routes develop.

Shoring up O-line will be good for JJ but not sure what the Vikings can do right now to improve the team. Cousins has a cap hit and Jefferson will have 2 more favorable years of cap hit. I imagine a mega extension is coming.

I can see them cutting a few players, but not sure. Zadarius Smith seems like an easy cut- 30 years old and faded down the stretch. Save a ton of money.

Honestly to me next year looks like an exact same situation with the teams in the division continuing to improve. Makes me hesitant to pay $70 out of $200 in an auction keeper or the 1.1. The TD's are also kind of Julio like

Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the team has had "preliminary" extension talks with Justin Jefferson.

Jefferson was one more year on his rookie contract and can then exercise his fifth-year option to keep him locked up through the 2024 season. However, they will undoubtedly sign him to a massive extension before then. A deal could come as soon as this offseason, though the Vikings may want to keep him on the rookie wage scale for as long as possible. Either way, it's only a matter of when, not if, Jefferson becomes the highest-paid receiver in the league.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings and Justin Jefferson "have not yet begun any negotiations" surrounding a contract extension.

Schefter is obviously rebutting a statement Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made earlier today in a press conference. Adofo-Mensah said the team has had "preliminary" extension talks with Jefferson. Schefter, likely hearing otherwise from someone close to Jefferson, reported the opposite of this. He did, however, note the Vikings plan on having contract discussions this offseason. It's an odd wrinkle to the start of the Jefferson extension saga, but the two sides should be able to agree on a deal that keeps Jefferson in Minnesota as the highest-paid receiver in the league within the next year.

Justin Jefferson has been named the Associated Press’ Offensive Player of the Year.

The OPOY award has essentially become the best “non-quarterback” on offense. Jefferson is the third receiver to take home the honors in the past four years, joining Cooper Kupp and Michael Thomas. Although he had the benefit of 17 games, Jefferson’s 1,809 yards were the sixth most in league history, while his 128 receptions were seventh most. He had 99 more receiving yards than runner up Tyreek Hill in 2022. A proven dominator at all three levels of the field, Jefferson has seen his receiving yardage jump from 1,400 to 1,616 to this year’s 1,809. Still four months shy of his 24th birthday, Jefferson certainly seems to have what it takes to become the first 2,000-yard wideout in NFL history.

Vikings exercised Justin Jefferson's fifth-year option.

Not a lot of intrigue around this decision. Jefferson has 4,825 receiving yards in his first three seasons while playing every game, scoring 28 total touchdowns while winning Offensive Player of the Year in February. The Vikings have noted in pressers that extending Jefferson to a long-term deal is a "high priority," and such an extension would likely reset the top of the wideout market. Tyreek Hill currently has the highest contract in average-per-year terms at $30 million a season, while A.J. Brown has the most guaranteed money in his contract at roughly $56.4 million. Those will be the main numbers to look for in a Jefferson extension. Without an extension, Jefferson would be making $19.7 million on the fifth-year option.

is anyone concerned what happens when Cousins is done which might be sooner than later
Not really, Cousins is only 34.

Elite WR's produce with terrible QB play, just look at Deandre Hopkins, one of his best years was with a conglomeration of Bryan Hoyer, TJ Yates, and Ryan Mallet.

Minnesota won't let Cousins go until they have someone better to replace him. Not like Cousins is Mahomes like and the drop off would be dramatic. You have 3-4 years before you have to worry

It's more then that though as he's in the last year of his contract and the team is making no move at this time to extend him.

As for the concern level for sure there has to be some. Anytime things are going well and you have a change at QB it's got to be some level of concern especially when talking the #1WR.

There are countless examples, some a few games, some full seasons, of WR's going to inferior QB's and improving for fantasy. Cousins is not elite so maybe the Vikings improve. But it's the classic old adage of if it's not broke don't fix it and when things are going this well not sure how anyone can have no concern over strong odds someone else is throwing the ball to Jefferson.

I thought of this a few months ago and was mulling offering JJ for Chase. Then came across some rumor on Chase, not overly credible tbh, but enough to scare me off. Then I read this feature article on Jefferson detailing how he absolutely blew people away with the testing related to WR's in the pre-draft cognitive testing and I got to thinking a man that wins with his mind is a man that's going to have a lot of staying power. But long story short, I have some level of concern, I'd call it low right now.

I watched a lot of Vikings last year. Count me in the camp that Jefferson might actually be better off with a different QB. Cousins is awful at times.

Anything's possible, but when a guy is the top scoring dog, I'd rather things not change.

aaaand he's on the Fantasy Football Index cover page which has been a curse for decades. Dont ask for whom the bell tolls..lol you're whistling past the graveyard if you ignore this stuff, please feel free to add caveat emptor type one liners
I have him in dynasty, and I'm going to shop him for a king's ransom.

Justin Jefferson caught 9-of-12 targets for 150 yards in the Vikings’ Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.

Jefferson saw massive volume in Week 1, nothing new for the Vikings offense. He was the team’s leading receiver, but did not get looks in the endzone. The Buccaneers paid extra attention to Jefferson in Tampa territory, allowing rookie Jordan Addison to get lose for a touchdown. Jefferson also added a tackle on a Kirk Cousins interception. The top wide receiver in the league, Justin Jefferson is a constant fantasy start and will look to keep up his elite play in a Week 2 Thursday matchup against the Eagles

Reminds me of Calvin Johnson and Julio Jones. He's just so dominant but like them he gets so much attention in end zone other guys are left wide open and his TDs are limited.

He will continue piling up yards playing on a team with an abysmal defense, poor rushing attack, and QB who chucks it 40+ times per game.
Their D has played pretty well this year. Turnovers have been the issue

I’ve got the Kirk/Jefferson stack in a super flex league and it feels so good so far.

Even with 5 turnovers between them so far.

I have this stack too in a regular league. Hopefully they keep Cousins alive. He has some good matchups.

Call me crazy, but I'm a bit frustrated. Yes, he is a beast, but when Capt Kirk is slinging TD's, it's a little disappointing when the dominant WR and a top-2 redraft pick isn't on the receiving end of any of them. Love the guy...one of, if not the, most talented WR in the league...but gotta say that I'm starting to get Andre Johnson vibes from him.

Yes, him, too....
