WR Malachi Corley, CLE (1 Viewer)

@32BeatWriters
“Glenn and New York’s offensive coaching staff have consistently said that they would build an offensive scheme that fits their players. Every great coach in the league would do just that.
The problem with Corley is that all of his tape comes from college. He’s still a very raw prospect, and New York’s new regime has no loyalty to him as a player. He has to earn every bit of playing time he could receive.”

I was a big supporter of the Corley pick. The JETS are a mess. They literally traded up to get him last year and already "have no loyalty". I think he's a decent NFL player in the right system.

Such a dumb blurb, lol. Maybe I'm out of touch but the Jets burned the #65 overall pick on this guy last year. The first pick of the 3rd round knowing that he was a raw prospect and now I'm supposed to believe that he's going to struggle to receive playing time?

Garrett Wilson
Allen Lazard
Xavier Gipson
Malachi Corley

Seems like pure conjecture by the beat writer. Personally, I like the raw prospect more after he's had a year to gain experience, not less. In some instances, the draft situation would matter but am I supposed to believe that somehow the new GM and Coach have greater attachments to Xavier Gipson and Allen Lazard? I see a clear path to a meaningful WR2 role with probably some designed screens, gadget plays to help out Justin Fields.
Jets beat writers love their speculation blurbs - completely baseless and just connecting dots on the obvious that he looked awful last year and the new regime didnt draft him - no duh. That aside - the Jets WR room is one of the worst in the league outside of Wilson - if Corley has any talent this regime should give him a shot - Lazard and Gipson have shown to be awful. Id keep an eye on him in camp - not a bad dart throw

I haven't got past him having a zillion percent pass caught behind the line of scrimmage and within five yards.
I've tried to like this guy predraft but....
This is still my concern.
Faust's quote he shared from Glenn, doesn't change at all. It somewhat emphasizes it.

How about just run a route and get open?

Words can’t describe the thinking behind this pick and how it should immediately disqualify whoever was involved from being considered competent.

This was so bad. It was awful right away. This is the same draft that unfortunately seems to have prioritized running back when you had Breece Hall. It was just a disgraceful two years with Rodgers and you knew it was going to be ****ty. This organization isn’t worth following until it is sold.

The GM who made this pick was fired. That’s … something?

We don’t know who made that pick! That’s the billion dollar nepo problem!

#Jets HC Robert Saleh on Malachi Corley:

“He’s heavy, in terms of, you can feel him when he’s getting up there and he’s running with the football and you’re trying to tag off on him, or in the run game when he gets his hands on you and he’s blocking. He’s gonna be a fun player… We’re looking forward to seeing him in game action to see how it translates.”
When the first thing the head coach can think of to describe a wide receiver is "heavy" than we should probably begin to look elsewhere for fantasy value.

These guys got paid millions to say this ****. By the way, I can’t find it anywhere because they scrubbed it, but when they hired Saleh he said he got out of a job commitment at his old work by saying his brother died when he hadn’t died. I instantly did not trust him and felt ill about it. No cap.

Wow that is a crazy thing to do and then to just admit to the media

Dude, I’m positive they scrubbed it. I’ve looked like five times. Cannot find that ****. But I read it. He told his investment firm or Wall St firm or whatever it was his brother died so he could interview for a football job. I could be wrong. I want to be wrong. My jaw hit the floor and I went “What the ****?”

I hope I’m spreading bad gossip. He was trying to explain how much he loved football and hated his job. I have no idea why he’d use that anecdote to prove his point. Everything he did with the Jets was fake fake fake. Check it out. It always was and the players didn’t respect him.

He was a popular name around here for the Lions HC job because he's a local kid, went to high school in the town I grew up in. Thank goodness for Detroit it worked out how it did. Fake is probably the last word anyone would use to describe Dan Campbell and while you can question how aggressive his play calls are, you can't ever question whether the players respect him.

I really hope I’m wrong because that was an awful story to read. I was like, “You lied about your brother dying?”

He was the guy that caught a holy wow number of passes near or behind the LOS but had decent stats.
I thought it was worth a try. I'm not used to YAC being a sole trait on predraft stuff.

The Jets don't seem to like their depth WRs. Both Smiths flashed at moments. Fans were excited but Glenn n company were very much eh to it.
I mixed em up at times. Preseason is madness with jersey numbers for teams I don't follow close enough.
The journeyman guy earned more playing time for sure and he wasn't getting it. He can get picked up (assuming waived) but I'd stay right there on the PS. I'd assume Glenn has had his share of cocky WRs so that's just his style of response.

I didn't like Lazard in anything I saw this summer. His bad days used to be him using height and long reach but he didn't do that from when I saw. I thought he was done.

I didn't like a lot of Jets WRs and if it were my roster I'd have the Smiths rotate opposite Wilson because wth why not. I think the rookie TE is WR2 so with a ton of running the actual WR2 is not going to be much. Put the scrappy guys there. Idk what they'll do but...I just really didn't like their WRs

I liked Corley before the draft. Hopefully a change of scenery can unlock his potential.

Dude. That’s a massive whiff. The guy can’t run a route. It’s over. I hope he saved every penny.
Hey I still Roster Treylon Burks, leave me alone.

What’s amazing is some guy nominated him for auction and for some cantankerous reason I upped the bid because I didn’t want him to get Corley for the min and guess what?? I had a bouncing baby Corley on my roster for two FAAB. I was pissed. . .

Burks was also a guy I never drafted in any format. Same with Shenault. I hate guys who can’t run routes. I just . . . I can’t stand it.

When they traded up to get him I assumed big plans were in the works. Way off. I'm a bit surprised they couldn't find a taker if he's on the trade block.

Both Burks and Corley are so inadequate there’s no market. Who wants that?

You say that, but Mingo went for a 4th. Has to be someone desperate enough to swap late picks

Mingo had tape of himself running routes and don’t forget who gave the 4th for Mingo. The worst GM/owner in football.

eta* I mean, have you seen Jerry handling the Parsons situation? You couldn’t do any worse.

Cleveland's WR room is becoming a group of misfit toys. Jeudy, Bond, Corley on top of Tillman and Thrash. This group is actually shaping up to be quite complementary of each other, while explosive and young. Cleveland put this group together for almost nothing. I have to say they've done well here.

I doubt Corley will be around too long. Again, their team sucks so they should get him on the field and see what he can do. But take a look at the Jets WR room and then ask yourself how bad a 23 year old receiver the team spent a 3rd round pick the year prior on has to be to get cut from by the Jets.

I’m not running out to pick him up but a change in scenery is a good thing. Corley is an obvious project with obvious athletic upside. I would take whatever happened on the Jets with a grain of salt. That franchise has to be one of the biggest messes in football.

I’ll also just add I believe Stefanski is a very intelligent coach and found a way to unlock Jerry Jeudy when no one including Payton could in Denver. Jeudy was considered a major bust.

Also, Corley was drafted by a regime that was subsequently fired. The new regime had no ties to him.
