WR Rashee Rice, KC (4 Viewers)

Ghost town around here.

Rehab is said to be going well. Looking like he should be ready for training camp. Haven't heard a peep in regards to the off the field stuff. Anyone hear anything?

First civil trial starts next month but he could settle before it makes it that far. I think he has more then one civil trial upcoming.

As far as I know no one has set a criminal trial yet and I'm unclear if the NFL would suspend him based on outcome of the civil trial and/or settlement or continue their approach of not reviewing his suspension length until all trials have been litigated. I'd guess the former but not entirely sure.

ok, this action was OVER a yr ago... how long does it take to go to criminal trail or dismiss something like this. They must have all the evidence and testimony they can get. It was a minor thing... 8 felonies and there were injuries

Zeke is wondering WTF ? He got suspended for 6 games for what again ?

Don't know but I linked an article that was wrote at the end of March where some people are blaming the influence of his attorney, who is a well known state Senator(and who once sued Dez Bryant for trashing a house he rented to him).

ETA-what was not mentioned in the article but the people who are waiting on a resolution should have understood by now is the power and influence the Hunt family in the Dallas area. If I had to guess, and I will, they pull more sway then Rice's attorney.

Seems a lot people are upset about the delay and stall tactics and that after issuing a public apology everything has kind of gone silent.

I, for one, believe he is innocent! And furthermore, that he has already paid for his numerous transgressions with this public scrutiny and subsequent apology. He was a young man, immature, and he’s learned a valuable lesson.

Any suspension at this point would seem like a hasty and egregious overreaction.

Sincerely,

—just traded for Rice

Jameson Williams got suspended 6 games for placing bets on college sporting events from inside the Lions' practice facility. It's legal to place bets on non NFL games but not within a team facility. Very extreme. A game maybe to get his point across.

Roger seems to have an agenda with what he considers suspension worthy actions.

Kareem Hunt got suspended... then cut... then blackballed for what!!! until someone needed and RB; then they went "wow, he can still play!"
But this Rice thing is crazy... it almost like it didn't happen and people don't care

I think based on how they have been handled in the past, any form of domestic abuse and any form of gambling have been deemed really bad for league. I agree. All other criminal issues is just a giant gray area. People will say Rice was just driving recklessly. Watching the clip of his actions, he might be the luckiest person on the planet nothing horrible happened. I have two younger children that now drive and I don't want that guy anywhere near a car. He needs some accountability here other then a I'm sorry moment. Imo

the fact that there was another driver and another vehicle involved in the racing/accident might be muddying the waters a little bit as far as pinpointing actual blame and accountability, etc...if it was solely Rice driving recklessly/speeding/etc. things might be going a little faster....

They’ll pay them off and it will also quietly go away.

The league has made me cynical enough in these situations that I assume this to be the most likely outcome.

Money fixes everything short of “casting doubt on game outcomes” (gambling) and loss of life (Ruggs). Otherwise just write a check.

Agreed. Imagine if you were one of the cars innocently involved in his. It's been a year. I would have already dealt with insurance issues and been paid out for damage to my car. Then someone comes up out of the blue and says if I keep my mouth shut and sign an NDA I get 50 grand. I couldn't sign quick enough.

He will eventually get suspended at least a few games. Just has to wait until his cases are adjudicated or settled.

The league has been fairly consistent with this approach since they revised how they handle player misconduct. The only deviation they make is when PR and/or mob justice gets to be so much they use exempt list or threat or if to put the player on ice until their cases are resolved.

Long way of saying he’s not going to avoid NFL punishment, he’s just delaying it.

I’d ask for a signed jersey or no deal.
My mamma didn’t raise no dummy.

Also the fact that there's what everyone claims to know, and what they think he should be suspended for, and what can be proven.

How many games can someone get suspended for leaving an accident?

Not sure there’s a precedent here.
Also to muddy the waters a bit it's not like he just had a small fender bender in a Wendy's parking lot and took off. Dude was just wildly dangerous. Like fast and furious dangerous.
As has been discussed though, his leaving the scene likely helped him.

Better to be accused of being drunk and/or high, and/or carrying a weapon than to be actually caught being drunk and/or high and/or carrying a weapon.

Players typically don’t get suspended for accusations.

if he just runs himself into a telephone pole and leaves....kind of a nothing burger....

I think he's gonna get 4.

If he gets 2, people will scream about how it's way too light.

4 games tell people they are serious-ish about it.

Yes, but which season? From what I've seen, there's been so little movement on the criminal side of things that it may not even reach court before September, much less see a verdict. If he does get suspended, it might not even be until 2026.

4 games, reduced to 2 on appeal is my guess.

But a lot of that will depend on what happens in court. If there's a plea agreement that lets him off with a fine & community service or something, the NFL may issue a suspension commensurate with the legal punishment.

That's where guessing his punishment gets a little dicey.

I read that it's being delayed because his attorney is a state senator and there's a conflict with his gov't duties/calendar so he's not available for trial except certain times of year.

I traded him away last year.
Suspend all you want

since hes recovering from a pretty serious injury, wouldnt it make sense to get any suspension at the start of the season to give him an extra few weeks to heal?

I don't think it's necessary and have been a little surprised at any concern people have had over his recovery.

Timeline on full recovery from his type of surgery is only 4 months. There was even some rumblings about him returning for the postseason but that was pushing things a bit.

He was an idiot but what is he supposed to do to help? He's not a medic. Running around on a busy freeway is dangerous and would have made things worse.

oh I don't know....maybe check if somebody needs CPR till real medics get there....maybe help apply pressure to a wound if someone is bleeding....if you see a car start smoking...I don't know .....maybe help them get out before they get stuck in a burning car.....help people get out that maybe are kinda trapped by the airbags and seatbelts.....stay there and comfort someone that is in pain and let them know you have called for help....you know most things anyone with a little care and compassion for other human beings that were just involved in something pretty scary and dangerous would do....

Today I learned, he didn't tear his ACL.

I've had it in my head it was an ACL tear ever since it happened. Not sure how I got that wrong for this entire time. But I'm much much higher on him.
What was the injury if not a torn ACL?

EDIT TO ADD: It appears that despite many reports that Rice suffered a torn ACL, it may have been a torn LCL, which typically has a shorter recovery time. Interesting.

"His surgery was not his ACL, it was the posterolateral corner, there was damage there," Reid said. "It's probably the same result, though, as you'd get time-wise for an ACL. It takes a while for that to come back. He'll get into his rehab and get rolling on that as we go here."

https://radiopaedia.org/articles/posterolateral-corner-injury-of-the-knee

Pathology

There is no consensus between authors and textbooks on what constitutes the posterolateral ligamentous complex. The three main structures based on biomechanical studies are:

Other structures stated to be in the posterolateral ligamentous complex include the tendons of the short and long heads of the biceps femoris muscle, the arcuate ligament, popliteomeniscal fascicles, and the fabellofibular ligament.

Weird. Never heard of this injury. Must be a lot more rare than ACL tears. What other NFL players had it? Did they return in similar fashion to ACL tears, or was it better or worse?

I think I say this every year, but there is a guy who used to be an NFL team doctor for about 20 years and then there are a bunch of internet doctor's giving diagnosis. You can listen to who you want, I'm going with the ex-team doc.

Is expected to require four months to make a full recovery from the season-ending surgery he underwent Tuesday to repair the LCL in his right knee, Rice also had his hamstring tendon repaired as part of the surgery, but his MCL, ACL and meniscus were not part of the procedure, the lack of additional structural damage should allow him to make a full recovery for next season

As someone who just dealt for him, this is good news.

While similar recovery times, from what I’ve been reading there’s a much better recovery prognosis, as the ability to cut is what’s most effected by ACL/MCL while with this oddball issue that isn’t necessarily the case. With the more common knee injuries, regaining confidence in that cutting ability is also a challenge.

I know we have some doctor-type dudes here - maybe they can either confirm, or throw cold water on that assessment?

Lol, truly don't get it.

Sorry, don’t get what?

I’m wondering if the ability to return to form (e.g. cutting, shifting weight laterally) is a better prognosis with this injury vs ACL/MCL

Not whether the injury is ACL or not.
No biggie man but what I'm saying is a guy who was an actual team doctor for almost 20 years is saying he should be recovered in full and you are asking for someone here to chime in with their diagnosis. This is what I was talking about in my post.

Full recovery=no issues to me.

I'd imagine he starts to climb up draft boards as we move deeper into the summer. Those first handful of games before the injury he has 29 targets in 3 games. He was about to have a monster season.

Full recovery=no issues to me.
Perfect. That’s what I was looking to confirm.

By the way, you did not actually specify that the person was a member/poster here.

You said
but there is a guy who used to be an NFL team doctor for about 20 years and then there are a bunch of internet doctor's giving diagnosis. You can listen to who you want, I'm going with the ex-team doc.

You even bolded it above. Yet that important bit of information would have spared me from asking something redundant. My question was directed at the person here I know was an ortho - maybe the same person you were attempting to refer to.

Like you said, no biggie.

By the way, you did not actually specify that the person was a member/poster here.
Actually was not really referring to anyone here, was thinking more along the lines of the Dr. Jesse dude on twitter, dudes like him.
Oh - ok yeah. I’m actually off Xitter, in part because anyone with $8 can pretend to be an orthopedic surgeon, but you get no argument from me.

I go with the doctor 100/100x over 100s of armchair orthos on YouTube for sure.

All this aside, I’m now super excited about Rice. All that remains to know is the suspension (if there is one, and how long).
:hifive:

What's the deal with the legal trouble. Is it wheels up? I'm not rooting for the guy but would like to know before we get into drafting season.
Yeah, that seems to be the last hurdle to his 2025 value.

I was able to buy pretty reasonably, but the assumption of a suspension was baked into his price in my mind. A lot of players miss 1-3 games a season. I just figure it’s the same as if he gets hurt. Maybe better because it’ll be 1-3 games of rest for him.

My biggest concern is the “when” of it. Beginning of the season when my team’s at full health? Yes please!

3 weeks before the FF playoffs? That would be less than ideal.

Just stuff we won’t know until we know.

My main concern in all honesty is how his usage looks with second year Worthy and Brown being a bigger part of the offense.
