WR Rashee Rice, KC (3 Viewers)

Like that its at the start of the season rather than later - gives him a chance to be 100% healthy - and its like trading for/adding a #1 WR for the stretch if you can hang in there.

Where does this news make Rice reasonable to draft in redraft? Round 6ish?
I'm in a slow draft going on right now. He was just drafted at 5.04 after the news came out.
I'm in the camp of being more near this spot fwiw. I think if you have high confidence in league, roster construction so far is safe and bigger bench 7 spots its then about right.

Just checked last night’s ROC. I recalled he went a little higher than I thought he would — he went 7.02
I took him at 6.03 in a 14 team league, so about the same range

Depends on your league. We have fairly short benches, but are liberal with the amount of playoff teams (8). Figured I can manage 6 weeks without him and it should be a big advantage come playoff time.

That said, drafting a 12 teamer tonight and only 4 teams make the playoffs, so he will have to fall a bit further for me to grab him.

Have been loading up on him at R8 / R9 in moderately deep bench leagues.

Rice has averaged ~20 FP/G since taking on a full startjng role. Could damn well finish as a top 5 WR in the final 2/3 of the season.
Exactly.

I would love to get him that late, but don't want to risk not getting him, so I'll reach a round early.

Wow. In FFPC Big Gorilla drafts his ADP was 6.11 in 60+ drafts over the last two days before today. I expect it to go up now. Getting him in the 8th seems like stealing.

Ooh, I roster this guy for dynasty and his price just went way up. And yes, I'm in the market because this guy is a complete dunderhead raised by a mother who steals packages off of people's porches while her kid is in the NFL.

Make me an offer. Please.

I mean, ****. I have a bit of a tolerance but domestic abuse allegations and this type of stuff are not my cup of tea. Make the offer good, though.

Schedule:

1-6: Suspension
7: Raiders
8: Commanders
9: @BillS
10: BYE WEEK
11. @broncos
12: Colts
13: @cowboys
14: Texans
15: Chargers
16: @Titans
17: Broncos

Normally, I'm all over this kinda move. I'm all over Addison at ADP. But I don't know. 7 out of 10 weeks, he's out. LAC/TEN/DEN in playoffs isn't wonderful. Before Picks/Waddle/Ridley? If you got him when there was a scare about him missing fantasy playoffs, you probably won. But if his ADP jumps way up, I am probably out.

Yeah, I mean… There’s a massive difference between a 10 game suspension that starts in November, and a six game one that starts week one. Seismic difference.

Watch a few YouTubers content just to stay on top of ADP etc and watching one money draft last night, he went in the 4th in a 12 teamer. I think that's crazy personally. He's literally going to play 3 times in the first 10 weeks and that's even assuming he'll be roughly at game speed during those 3 games he plays. Wouldn't take him before the 7th I don't think so won't be drafting him looks like.

I got him in the 9th in a 10-team, deep bench league last night where I didn't take a WR until the 5th round...If I can go 3-3 in the first 6 weeks, I should be solid.

In one of my leagues we drafted Tuesday night. This news came out Wednesday morning. He fell to me in the 14th round Tuesday night as everyone was avoiding him like the plague and I pulled the trigger. Hoping he is my 2023 Mostert I also got in the 14th that year. LFG!

I took him middle of round 6 of an FFPC Main Event last night as my WR4 and feel pretty good about it. Only negative is I did end up with a team a little heavy on week 5 byes so that's going to be challenging week not to have him but it's not as if someone else I could have drafted is guaranteed to not be hurt that week.

FWIW I looked at two other Main Events and he also went in mid to late round 6 of all of them. When I picked him I had no ADP data. I just kind look for something fairly close to a 4 round discount, this was probably just a hair under that as if he had no suspension issues I'd have had him as my highest rated player right around the 2/3 turn. But other then the approximate 4 round discount it's always going to be relative to what else is available for me to draft and I liked a bunch of players in that range, did not covet or love any of them.

An argument for drafting Rice, with actual data to back it up. Good stuff
For those of us not on X who can’t see the replies and discussion without logging in (and cuz I’m dumb enough that I”m not getting the point if it’s supposed to be obvious from the table of data presented) can you summarize in a sentence or two, please?
TLDR; if you draft Rice around the 4/5 turn and build your team intelligently, you should have no problem making the playoffs.

(And if he's as good as Kupp or Collins were last year, he'll probably even help you make the playoffs at that cost.)

...And then, you get a ~top-12 projected WR for the playoff weeks!

I probably shouldn't have buried that lede. But production in Weeks 15-17 is exponentially more valuable than production in Weeks 1-6.

@joey, my UNO team is a case study for the above ^^^.

We'll see how it goes, but I drafted Rishi in that spot expecting 4-6 games max at the start of the season for all the same reasons he outlined. Didn't feel great hearing the NFL wanted to ring him up for double-digit games almost right after our draft, but now that the dust has settled, I'm back to feeling decent/good about the pick. Again, we'll see how it goes - not gonna be easy surviving six weeks in shark-infested waters with only plankton on the wire if my bench depth doesn't work out.

I’d be more worried about choosing your 2nd RB from Skattebo, Benson, Tucker or Mitchell. Rice ain’t gonna help with that ;)

Benson to the moon! 🚀 🌙

His trade value is really going to start ramping up around weeks 4, 5, and 6 when everyone knows he's coming back. If you get off to a bad start you will have the option to trade him and get really good value.

His trade value increased the moment the suspension was announced due to knowing when and how long the suspension would be.

Small sample size but Rice averaged 2 fantasy points per target IN DENVER last time he played the Broncos (PPR). Without scoring a TD.

He will be playing them in Arrowhead this time around.

Mahommes is undefeated at home vs Denver (7-0) and since 2023 he’s averaged 30 for 41 for 315 / 2TD / 1INT.

Not all that worried about Denver in Arrowhead.

Rice will be fine when he comes back but I'm letting other people roster him while I look elsewhere. I worry more about Mahomes and the rest of the KC offense. Rice was the only guy at WR that was a really savvy route runner. A few of the young guys will go through a trial by fire and I hope they step up, but Kelce is cooked so this might be another season that's a work in progress. Royals doesn't seem ready for the NFL life. This is Xavier Worthy or bust time for that team.

KC Homers - does he look fully recovered from the LCL injury from last year?
Not a KC homer but in this day and age of information that’s an antiquated outlook to rely on IMO.

In answer to your question he looks good to me but NOT fully recovered to Dr Chao and his staff who I respect more then any other medical opinion but they are not scaring me off.

I’m old school, I like to get the opinion of the fans watching to see if someone passes the eye test. I Agree that I’m a relic of the old days. :suds:
