I suppose in Kamara's case, there was still a slim chance he could be found not guilty .. self defense or whatever.
The only difference between what Rice did from Henry Ruggs is that in Ruggs case the poor womans car caught on fire and she died.
... also, Rice left the scene, which is another crime, but eliminating any chance of a DUI charge.
Ruggs was suspended indefinitely by the NFL 1 day after the incident. It was a 1 1/2 years after the accident when Ruggs entered his "guilty" plea and was sentenced.
I'm not saying NFL should have waited to suspend Ruggs ... I'm saying they should have already disciplined Rice. There's video evidence and he has not denied it. He's owned it and apologized publicly.
There's no reason to wait 2 seasons for him to plead "guilty" at a trial ... unless the NFL doesn't want to hinder KC's chances of winning.
I would note that there was security camera footage (multiple cameras) of Kamara's beatdown of a man in Vegas, and Kamara did indeed leave the scene.
Ruggs' situation was entirely different. A woman died. You say that is the only difference, but it is a HUGE difference.
If the NFL had wanted to do KC a huge favor, they would have already doled out a suspension . . . while he was rehabbing. Some were even urging Rice to expedite the conclusion of his criminal case for exactly that reason.
I think people will interpret this how they want to see it, but the NFL has been pretty consistent about waiting for resolution of criminal matters with the Courts.
I am in no way defending Rice. The reckless behavior he and his friends participated in was despicable. Ideally, leaving the scene like he did would have triggered an immediate mandatory drug test by the NFL, but the NFL's drug testing program is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and the NFL Player's Association. Your suggestion that Rice is being treated differently because he plays for the Chiefs is simply not supported by the facts.
