WR Ricky Pearsall, SF (5 Viewers)

Nick Wagoner
#49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team "just doesn't feel" WR Ricky Pearsall is ready to have his practice window opened this week.

"I know he is really close. When he’s good to go, himself and the medical staff, we'll be pumped to have him back."

Kathy Townsend
I have a feeling that Kyle will keep him on IR for awhile longer. Ricky missed a lot of camp and isn’t going to be ready to take snaps right away.

This is true. They also have a short week next week practice wise. So entirely possible they want to have it set up for him with multiple full weeks of practice to evaluate. We'll see.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Pearsall (chest) will return to practice next week, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Spin: Shanahan thus confirmed a report from Albert Breer of NFL on Prime Video prior to Thursday's game at Seattle. The 49ers will need to make a procedural move to allow Pearsall to practice, but once his 21-day window to do so is opened, he'll begin the final stages of getting back into game shape since he suffered a gunshot wound during an attempted robbery Aug. 31.

Just started following this cat now....is there something to see here? Is Pearsall worth taking a flyer and dropping your wr 4/5? Right now that'd be Watson for me. This cat wouldn't even be startable outside a Deebo/Ayuik injury right?

Pearsall (chest) practiced fully Thursday.

Spin: As for the rest of the 49ers' receiving corps, Deebo Samuel (wrist) again was limited Thursday while wearing a blue non-contract jersey, and Jauan Jennings (hip) has yet to practice this week. That marks two of the team's top three wide receivers, which may spur San Francisco to get Pearsall back on the active roster for the first time since Sept. 2. Friday's injury report will unveil whether he has a designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, but the 49ers will need to activate him from the reserve/non-football injury list by 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday in order for the rookie first-round pick to have a chance to play this weekend.

#49ers WR Ricky Pearsall again going through practice today. Perhaps a sign of his enthusiasm: He's one of two players (+ Isaac Yiadom) wearing game pants today instead of shorts at practice.

Jennings injury and a good week for Pearsall could open door for him to debut vs. KC.

Kyle Shanahan to speak in about an hour (2PM PST)

"The guys are pumped," Shanahan said about Pearsall. "He's been around the guys for a while now so it's not like he hasn't been around. But [him] practicing all week, it's been great to see him out there. I think the guys were more happy for him that he could get back and be a part of it.

"He's had a hell of a week and we're just pumped to get him out there with us."

If you’ve actually been shot can you do a finger guns celebration?
Only if you're pointing at yourself.
Pretty sure he would need to bring in Deebo to do the finger guns at Pearsall. Pointing finger guns at yourself is a no no. Everyone knows this is dangerous and has no place in the NFL.
Why it gotta be Deebo?
Lol, because he’s part of the WR room? I wondered how long it would be before I got this post. I almost used Purdy as the “shooter” for this reason. 😂

Next Gen Stats
Ricky Pearsall had a 19.1% chance of scoring on his 46-yard TD, gaining 31 yards after catch, +13 over expected.

Pearsall reached a top speed of 19.47 mph on his first career touchdown, the fastest speed through his first three games this season.

Dropped him for Noah Brown right before the game started today since Deebo and JJ were back, nevermind McCaffrey. I probably wouldn't play him anyway outside of more injuries, and a flyer on a possible WR2 seemed better than what seemed like a WR4, but maybe a mistake given the hype around him.

They trusted him on the final drive and he delivered. His opportunities will only increase as he builds trust. He’s probably not even in peak condition yet.

Really like him for down t he stretch - IMO great add in keeper/dynasty if you can still get him for a reasonable price.

Absolutely agree 💯. I got to see him play last week and I was impressed. He looks alot like Julian Edelman to me. Strong handed wr who is shifty and deceivingly fast. I picked up Jacoby Meyers this week as a bye week fill in but he's available in my dynasty league. I have a feeling this kid is going to be really good. 1st rd selection as well. I may pick him up and drop Kraft on my bench.

Wow. Dynasty or keeper league? I just can't fathom him being available in a Dynasty league.

It would be crazy if he was on the WW in redraft! Especially after his last two performances and the opportunity to claim a much larger target share in SF just sitting there for the taking.

Let’s not over react. Pearsall is new to the NFL, had a gunshot wound, and he’s still working into the offensive which is stacked with talent.
Shanahan HAS to get him involved. WR screens, quick slants, reverses, whatever it takes. Especially with Kittle out. He was targeted twice, but he's gotta get more touches.

Purdys targets yesterday:

11 Jennings
7 Deebo
5 CMC
2 Pearsall
2 Juice
1 Saubret

Also...WR screens and slants are quick passes. Why Shanahan didn't adjust to the pressure Seattle was getting by calling 3 step drops is anyone's guess.

Shanahans also not using another rookie WR, Jacob Cowing. He's a deep threat but doesn't get snaps because according to what I've read, "he isn't a great blocker yet". With Shanahan, it's no block, no rock. He doesn't need to block to run go routes. Put him out there and watch the middle open up because defenses will have to respect the deep ball.

Shanahan is his own worst enemy.

Every time he came in he blocked or the play was ran to the other side of the field. Except once where he was wide open for a TD if Purdy would have looked his way on a roll to the left. He was in 1 on 1 every play. He's a better receiver than Deebo. Deebo should be playing RB or H-Back like Taysom. Having started Ricky and being a little salty, I think it's funny San Francisco lost this game.

#1 Target in SF next yr?
It’s a lock they don’t have anyone else
Kittle?
Aiyuk will be back at some point. Right? :oldunsure:
And Deebo and CMC will presumably be healthy(er?). Still, Pearsall is the real deal. I'm glad to see San Fran is actually using him. When they were still in the hunt, he could have helped so much but he was a complete afterthought in the offense. When you watched him on the field, he was open on so many plays but was always the 3rd, 4th or 5th read and Purdy rarely looked his way. That's a big miss on the part of the coaching staff. Shanahan will likely survive the offseason because of all the injuries, but this season exposed his weaknesses as a coach/play-caller IMO.

Shanahan also never used rookie WR Jacob Cowing, who has speed and good hands and is SFs only real deep threat. He could have used him to stretch defenses and open up the middle of the field and underneath once Auyik got hurt, but because Kyle thinks he's smarter than everyone and rarely lets rookie WRs play, we didn't get to see it.
