WR Sammy Watkins, BAL (2 Viewers)

All that is fine.  Still drop Patterson for Watkins as fast as you can.
I don't agree with this based on Watkins injury severity.  I don't think he is going to be right this entire season from what I have read.  Patterson is starting to outplay others on the Vikings and they seem to be targeting him and getting him more involved in the offense.  If he continues to progress than you will regret not picking him up to help you now if you have WR troubles.  He is definitely worth a flyer.  If you want to put your eggs in the Watkins basket than go for it but I don't think that is right for everyone that has a short bench or needs production now.   Most leagues don't have the IR designation so this is not feasible.  If someone dropped Moncrief I would run to get him and drop Patterson because it looks like he is coming back this week.

BTW - I  drafted Watkins and like him but cut my losses early.   Before I cut him I did a lot of research which lead to my conclusion that he will probably never be right this year.  I hope I am wrong.

More info will come out tomorrow. He is worth an add IMO until we hear more.
I added him last week for the playoffs. Thought I read he was to have an MRI today and the fact we haven't heard anything is a bit worrisome. I guess we'll find out tomorrow with the practice reports.

On both Yahoo and ESPN, he's only owned in about 50% of leagues. Seems like a great pickup for a playoff run. Could easily put you over the top if he is truly healthy. If not, only costs you a roster spot.
I figure if nothing else, I'd rather keep him on my bench over seeing him in someone else's lineup.

He is returning to practice on a limited basis. With all the issues this guy has had, they would be smart to move him along slowly. I wouldn't count on him playing this weekend. But then again, we all knew McCoy's hamstring wasn't 100%, but apparently Rex didn't know that. So what is smart doesn't always happen.

They've been hit hard by the injury bug this year. Sounds like Woods is set to miss some time now. I think he may play this week, but I wouldn't expect to see him out there for many snaps. Think next week will be when he starts seeing his normal snap count.

They're my team. Sammy has been injured so much that they really can't risk a re-injury. This game against Jacksonville *should* be a very winnable game, but then again we lost to them last time. I know that we got Justin Hunter and Brandon Tate off waivers mid-year and Harvin just unretired. But there's a very slim chance this team makes the playoffs this year. They would have to basically win out, which is certainly doable considering their remaining games but Buffalo always loses games they should have won (their first 3 losses vs. BAL, NYJ, MIA). So even if the team is optimistic that they have a chance, what does a very limited Sammy Watkins do for them this weekend? He may catch 1 or 2 balls. The possibility of an injury far outweighs any type of positive influence he will have in that game. They should absolutely sit him.

They give him limited snaps to help get him in game shape. If he is medically cleared I don't think he has to worry about reinjuring his foot. We are talking about Watkins though so if the bills are worried about an injury Watkins may as well retire.

So the conclusion of your research is that Patterson is rosterable and Watkins isn't? Back to the drawing board professor.

Yeah, I get the not wanting to rush him out thing. And I feel like regardless if he plays this year, be it Sunday or week 17, he won't be 100% anyway. He'll still need time to gain trust back in his foot making cuts and putting all that pressure back on it. It will take some time. That said, I'm desperate at the position and likely to make my playoffs, so I'm fine with them sitting him this week, maybe even 2 weeks out. But I would love to see him out there come week 14 in the playoffs even at less than 100%.

He was medically cleared at the beginning of the season and his foot started to give him more problems. So that is why I would take things very slowly with him.

C'mon man. You're calling someone out a month after the fact? It's easy to play the hindsight 20/20 game with any projection. Patterson looked good. That OL took a dive and the offense has sputtered ever since. Really, posts like this are worthless to the community.

He had the surgery in the off-season. Then came back. Then it bothered him. Got evaluated, no broken bones. They shut him down and rested him. No surgery or anything else, just rest.
IIRC someone stepped on it in practice.

My opponent this week claimed him when I needed the roster spot to cover BYEs. I am kind of hoping he starts him, because I don't expect him to have a full workload, and the possibility that he tweaks it and leaves the game seems fairly high.

But of course the way my luck is the dude will bust out for 10/130/3 and I'll lose because of it after drafting him in the 3rd round.  :wall:

Doubt he plays this week or produces much next week, but I picked him up because I ####### drafted him and he ain't benching for another team.

We have an IR slot in my keeper league and he has been sitting in it since week 3. This is perfect timing really. I am the top seed and this just makes my team better hopefully.

If that's the case, then he's had the rest, and the team thinks he can play on it if he's cleared for practice. I get that they may want to ease him in slowly in this game to knock off rust, but on the other hand, if he's at the point where he and the team are comfortable with having him back at full practice, don't see why they wouldn't want him to assume the snaps he would have at 100%. This is doubly so just because the team kinda needs a WR right now.

Exactly the same here. Don't think I'll start him over sanders or Hyde (flex), at least not yet.  But as a protective pickup, he's got more value than L green, I think.

He's been down for 8 weeks. Would think he'd be 100% by now, but we all thought he was 100% at the beginning of the season. So who knows...

Would be so great to see him back in the game at 100% (or as near to it as possible) and handle the same load - snap/target-wise - as he did prior to injury. That would literally make my season being able to confidently start him every week instead of AJ Green from WK 13 on.

I don't think that scenario is probable -- I think he skips this week and has a very slow ramp through fantasy playoffs -- that he'll contribute, but not at the level we'll need him to.

Hope I'm wrong.

I feel they will pick their spots but maybe around 5 to 10 snaps this week. I definitely don't think starting him is prudent. The fantasy playoffs look like a go barring a set back and that is good for me!

Picked this guy up a few weeks ago just to block my opponents because I was stacked at wr or so I thought.

Since then nuk has continued to suck, Pryor is barely startable, moncriefs qb is concussed, and adams is hit or miss.

I'm thinking this guy is my wr2 behind Julio from here on out.

Moncrief is qu too

That happened in the Thursday nighter against the Jets (week 2 or 3) late in the game.

I drafted him too and wasn't up to speed on the "screws in the foot" thing... bad move on me.
Yeah, see that's another risk with trusting Watkins in a playoff game, or in a week you need to put up points to make the playoffs.

Football, despite rumors to the contrary, remains a violent sport. Feets get stepped on. DBs get tangled with WRs all the time. And while Watkins is saying he's 100% after running around in his pajamas for 20 plays on a practice field, let's see how he looks after running 40 plays in bad weather with a bunch of big uglies trying to rip his head off.

I dunno - I sense disaster for anyone counting on Watkins in the playoffs. It just has that perfect storm feeling of a player who's gonna come out in week 13 and play really well, then in week 14 will come out, catch 1 pass for 6 yards and get his foot rolled, out for the game.

Not trying to jinx anyone here - I'm just sayin what my gut feeling is. I've been wrong more often than I've been right.

As far as I know, he still has the screws in the foot and IIRC it was a pain management issue (which he had a lot of trouble managing).

Correct. I'll be interested to see how he holds up in a game, because right now he seems to be where he was week 1. Nice and rested, and foot was feeling awesome according to Sammy and all reports. It's why I wasted spent a draft pick on him in the 3rd.   :wall:

Hard to trust him right now...so much on the line in leagues this time of year.

No one picked up Watkins to start him this week. Most of us are hoping for a full game played week 12 or 13 before we start him.

I picked him up a few weeks ago as a stash. I am going to end up as the top seed, and I don't really need him. If he turns into something in the fantasy playoffs, it gives me another option in case someone else is hobbled or has a bad match up.

In short bench leagues, what range of player would you drop for Watkins?  I want him but with short benches, quality would need to be sacrificed.

Just traded Hopkins, Alfred Morris, and langford for Marvin jones and watkins. Hopefully I did the right thing, but I'm sure Hopkins blows up now. You're all welcome that have Hopkins.
