WR Stefon Diggs, NE (4 Viewers)

Anyone watching? Is he still in there?
Yep, Keenum is checking down and throwing slant/drag routes about 90% of the time this game, not really challenging the Browns downfield. Diggs has been open a few times, but Keenum is hardly looking further than 5 yards down field.

Edit: On the bright side, his routes look clean and he doesn't seem at all hampered by the groin. Gaining separation and settling into the soft spots in the zone pretty well, Keenum just isn't looking his way.

Diggs draws a 47 yard pass interference call. Keenum also missed seeing him downfield wide open a few plays ago too. He's playing hard, just not getting the same number of looks I'm used to seeing for him.

Target distribution as it stands now:

10 for Thielen, 9 for McKinnon, 7 for Rudolph, 4 for Treadwell and Diggs, 3 for David Morgan

Tied with Treadwell and only one ahead of Morgan. That's ugly. Browns have been playing safeties deep all day, so the middle has been open (something Mass alluded to yesterday), so it may just be Keenum hasn't needed to look much past those short/intermediate routes to find an open guy.

Damn dropped a long pass...
Underthrown ball, but he probably should have come down with it.

He was just robbed of a catch on the sideline. Review showed he had his knee down after securing possession of the ball, but they still ruled it incomplete.

I’m happy. Open a lot so injury didn’t seem to be hindering him and he finished the game. Should be 100% going forward.
Well said. In spite of the minimal stat line, he looked good in his cuts, was open plenty, and drew a PI call or two, not to mention the sideline catch that was ruled incomplete.

Optimistic going forward.

Sad to say I'm out of the Diggs game entirely. Moved him in my main league (redraft 0.5 PPR) basically straight up for Baldwin. With Evans out this week, and Dez potentially out, I'm bullish enough on Baldwin's chances this week against a weakish AZ secondary and his chances going forward that I had to let go.

Bummed, to say the least, since Diggs is basically my favorite player in the league, but I'm wishing you all of the best going forward.

The Diggs train is a chaotic train to ride, but a fun one nonetheless.

He's damned if you do damned if you don't...I see a lot of excuses for him but right now there are two things you can count on...one, he is very talented...two, he has not been reliable for fantasy owners since he came into the league (for multiple reasons)...would really like to see him stay healthy and put up top 10 stats the rest of the year...he's just too good to have to be worrying about him week-to week which unfortunately is the case right now...I am a believer in him but I would be lying if I didn't say he still makes me nervous...my real big concern is he is gonna be one of those pro athletes that can only produce when he is 100% which unfortunately does not happen too often in the NFL...

I agree. He's that guys who starts on fire, gets into everyone's lineup, then sucks for four weeks. Then has a 125 yard 2 TD game on everyone's bench.  Very frustrating player to own.  With Evans' suspension, I'm forced to stick him in my lineup again.  Expecting 4 catches for 34 yards.

I'm torn. He's getting beaten up in here for a weak first game back, but he came back from injury before the bye and now he's had two weeks to get on the same page with Keenum. If he's going to be healthy this season, this week is his best bet. I'm lucky enough to be able to start him as basically my WR3 and to even have some pretty good options to start while he's been hurt, but I'm plugging him in this week and feeling pretty good about it.

The only things giving me pause are: (1) Washington is pretty good against the pass, (2) Thielen has been playing extremely well, and (3) McKinnon is picking up right where Dalvin left off, so with Minnesota's ground game and the way Washington's offense has been playing, Minnesota may not need to pass that much. But with Diggs' talent and my expectation of health and reasonable chemistry, I think he's a good gamble this week.

I disagree. You're describing Chad Johnson; he'd have 13 games 5/50 but then bust out with 3 games of 11/225/3. He'd finish the season in the top 20, but really he was garbage for most of the season.
When healthy Diggs is a set it and forget it WR. You can count on him producing well. The problem is he gets banged up at about week 5 and then that lingers rest of season. He seems to be healthy now, so maybe this is just a hiccup in his season, but if not then I am definitely off this train. He'd be cheap for me to keep next season (round 5), but I am not so sure I want to even mess with him at all next year... just let him be someone else's headache.

I always try to avoid people who have injury histories, but for some reason I keep coming back to Diggs...

I hope you're right and he's healthy now.  Whenever I don't have this guy, he seems to light it up against me. And then gives me 4 points when I have him and start him. I hope we both end up pleased with him on Sunday.

I see Diggs was listed as limited practice with a tooth injury...

That's something new
Three root canals and a filling in the last two days.

He says he's playing on Sunday though and the coach seems to agree.

I expect Norman to cover DIggs a lot. Washington is comfortable playing man to man.
It's rare for Norman to leave his side of the field though (left side, I think). I imagine Diggs and Norman will match up quite a bit, but Norman isn't a traditional shadow corner in the sense that he leaves his side of the field very often.

They've been letting him shadow more this year than last, but Diggs should still be Norman free for at least portions of the game.

From what I have been reading Washington who has a new DC this year is playing more man to man coverage.

This is no longer true. Redskins started using Norman to shadow in 2016 & throughout 2017.

According to PFF

with Josh Norman playing 141 of his 153 snaps on the left side
Not sure how Norman played in the game vs Seattle, but it does seem that he mostly plays the left side.

In last years game vs Washington DIggs had 13 receptions 164 yards in a losing effort, doing most of his work vs slot corner Fuller.

I would expect Washington to be focused on a better game plan against Diggs for this game.

3. Do you expect Josh Norman to shadow Stefon Diggs? Or will he line up on one side of the field and match up against both Diggs and Adam Thielen?

“I expect to see a combination of Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland on Stefon Diggs and a lot of Kendall Fuller on Adam Thielen when Thielen is in the slot. Defensive coordinator Greg Manusky has done a fantastic job with this Redskins defense this season, which has been significantly better than it was last season. Manusky likes to mix up coverages, so I expect there will be some plays where you will see Norman shadow Diggs on either side of the field, but there will also be plays will Norman will stay on one side of the field and Bashaud Breeland will cover Diggs. Everybody is well aware of how good of a defensive back Josh Norman is (watching him play every week is a privilege), but Bashaud Breeland is having a great season as well. Breeland has been an interesting case in DC. He had an excellent 2015 season that convinced many people he could star as a team’s #1 shutdown cornerback. The Redskins’ then signed Josh Norman in the offseason before the 2016 season, and Breeland was initially unhappy with the signing because he wanted to be the Redskins’ shutdown cornerback. This caused Breeland to have a down year last season (2016), and he admitted after the 2016 season that the signing of Josh Norman frustrated him and negatively affected his play. This season, however, Breeland appears to have returned to form, and has played fantastic (especially in the games without Josh Norman). The Redskins are comfortable with either Josh Norman or Bashaud Breeland covering the opposing team’s top receiver, so expect a mix of the two covering the speedy and talented Diggs with a lot of safety help overtop come Sunday. Kendall Fuller has also stepped up for the Redskins as their nickel corner this season and expect to see him covering Adam Thielen in the slot.”  LINK

I can't bench Diggs if he's healthy. I don't think Norman or Breeland can cover him. It more so depends on if Keenum sees him when he's open, but yeah, I can't bench him.

Got him in two leagues so makes the choice easier to diversify. Starting in one league, putting in JuJu over him in another. Would also start Robby Anderson over him in that league.
